Firearms & co... hate or love them?

Shall I put a picture of my penis up here seeing as we\'re discussing penis extensions?

As far as guns go (and most projectiles for that matter), they killed proper combat. A good scuffle down the lane after a few pints in the pub is good enough for most of this country and it\'s fine for me by Jove! Shake hands, pick up your teeth and off you go. Of course, fighting comes from aggression and bad feelings. My last fight was nearly 13yrs ago. I reckon that means I have a gift for avoiding bad feeling and aggression (in real life where it matters). That\'s a good thing.

Hunting and guns is a different matter, but respect the animals I say!

Funny. Especially since the vast majority of carrying concealed permits in this state are in fact issued to women.

A gun is a tool

I have no more use for one than I have for an autoclave.

It is a dangerous tool so I don\'t keep one.

I have no problem with target shooting. I just prefer archery.

Have you never seen a woman with a willy?

Those aren\'t really called women, now are they?lol

Sadly no. lol

Actually the point I was going to make was one about fear. I woman walking home and being followed by a man is going to see herself in a bad position. If that man is likely to be toting a gun, more so. Reaction suggests that tooling up with a gun at least puts her in the driving seat again.

That doesn\'t apply to every woman I\'m sure, but does anyone agree with this in principle?

Since Katrina, the crime rates have shot up here in Baton Rouge. My wife works nights in a facility by herself, in a part of town were the murder rate and rape rate is going up.
We merely have a philosophy that it is better to be a survivor who has killed than a victim who is dead.

The gun does not make her feel safer by any means, but it does give her a fighting chance if she is accosted.

I\'m not for running gun battles in the streets, but when it comes down to it, I know who I\'d prefer to survive.
I\'ll take my wife alive with a dead rapist/murderer any day, over my wife dead and a living rapist/murderer.

Grew up with guns, shooting them, hell still own one that my sister keeps as the fiance doesn\'t like them or want one in the house. I have no issue with guns, just a problem with morons that own guns.

It\'s a bit ironic, isn\'t it? It\'s the lack of know-how and self-discipline that causes those who do have those qualities to carry weapons.

I don\'t care for guns, I couldn\'t care less. I neither hate them nor love them. It\'s the bastard at the other end of the gun who elicits hate, fear and anger.

Curiously, I\'ve seen people stand nearby a gun with ease, and yet they don\'t want to be near my swords... ???

Back when I was in high school, many, many moons ago, we hunters, the kids that actually got up before school to go out and hunt to help the family make ends meet, would leave our rifles and shotguns in our rifle racks of our vehicles.
On school property.
Where anyone could get them.
There were no Columbines then.

Same at my High School. We actually had hunter safety courses at school that you could take for recreational credits.

I suppose this is similar in the way that some people view martial arts :p
I enjoy martial arts for the camaraderie, and the skill (I suppose also the self-defence but I hope I won\'t ever need to find out! lol)

But some people leanr it (Or even teach it unfortunately) for the wrong reasons.

Just look at the karate kid! (apart from the fact we\'d ALL like to give Daniel-san a bit of a slap) lol

Yup...i can remember kids having shotguns and rifles in the cars at school too.

I\'ve also been around guns all my life...my dad collects them. I don\'t own one, but I do know about gun safety and such...I agree with Vince about them being a tool.

People who were really into martial arts always made me laugh.
They talked about how they were so superior.
They never liked it when I pointed out that martial arts were invented by people who couldn\'t afford weapons.

Guns are a tool - true. Rifle and shotgun are used to hunt game.

Concealed pistol is like a fire extinguisher or first aid kit. Better to have one and not need it than the other way around. And like those other tools, if you don\'t know what you are doing with it you can do more harm than good.

Anyone see or read the part of The Long Way Round when Ewan and Charlie go to that house in Russia and everyone has guns. The owner comes down the stairs with a guitar in one hand and a Kalashnikov in the other.
