Not really a fan of guns.

Was nearly shot when I was 16......a bullet missed my head by about 2 feet in my friends kitchen - this was the UK in 1984 as well............

guns are nice and all, but im an anceant weapons kind of guy. ill take sword and spear against an army of zombies any day.
i own several that are rather nice - knives of many varieties and time periods (anceant egypt is even in there), a spear head or two, a persian sword (the handle is 500+yo). i practice with a bokken regularly and have been envolved with various martial arts styles through the years. dont laugh, a sword is a serious weapon. currently im saving for this baby:

though it might take a bit with the $1500 price tag (the woman wont be pleased).

best piece of steel you can buy though (bugei.com).

I have no issue with guns, just a problem with morons that own guns.

Now that I can identify with. I\'ve seen quite a few people sporting pistles on their hips here in Arizona. I\'m talking really prominant placement and a big swagger to boot. Quite often it\'s someone who scares the hell out of me even without the gun. Sadly, the pattern is even stronger with people who own Pit Bulls. So often it\'s someone who is really enamoured of the power and doesn\'t have the least sense of responsibility for controlling it.

Lovely piece there, mate. Quite a hamon on that thing, but I\'m not crazy about that tsuba. Here\'s the weapon I\'m trying to justify - affording $1000 is one thing, justifying it is another entirely - a Huanuo Royal Peony jian.

They never liked it when I pointed out that martial arts were invented by people who couldn\'t afford weapons.

That\'s an odd thing to say. Even if you limit the history of martial arts to the \'accepted\' evolution of just Karate, you end up at the long debated \"Bodhidharma\" discussion---(see, Kalarippayattu). He was a Buddhist Monk, but supposedly the son of a n Indian King---Tanlin records him as being a prince. But who\'s to say for sure, I guess.

Regardless, I\'d like to know the timeline and such you\'re basing the statement on. It interests me.

As far as weapons/guns. I own one of about every flavor. And I\'ve still never managed to hurt myself or anyone else with \'em.

Cheers!

:D @ Funnymouth and Modd......... beautiful swords, are they antiques or reproductions, anyway they are works of Art? I have read some books on how ancient weapons were made, other then the tools and some of the materials, very little has changed.

I have no problem with people owning guns and most hunting. I do hate “canned hunts” and taking of endangered species ( I can live cull hunts when necessary).

and in my part of the country, I wouldn’t mind an open season on the drug dealers. :flame:

I\'m not a gun fan. I haven\'t been brought up around them, and I feel very uncomfortable around them.

Even if I am going through an airport and security personnel are wandering past with one I feel uneasy.

Saying that I don\'t like being around truncheons, knives or pointy sticks either! I think swords are beautiful, but still don\'t want to see one when I\'m wandering around.

ooooo, that is nice mod; i likey.

@wiccan: the sword i posted is a modern katana, made by bugei, a small company which might possibly make the finest swords available today. it is most certainly real ( take a gander at these video clips), but it is also art.

Yeah... Personally, I never trust anyone with any weapon unless I\'m very sure about them.

Guy, OR girl with a gun for me is bad. I have NO IDEA how much they might over-react about something stupid. Besides... I think a girl using smarts is better than using a gun. Bad situation, get out! Can\'t get out? Use a tazer then!

ok so i dont mind guns.. i personally cannot handle them... they are fine with other people just not me. my best friend shot himself with a gun and it made me never want to see one again. it was a tough time and since then i have steered clear of them. i do not care if someone else has one ... i just dont want one.. on or near me.

on further note someone might say \"well your friend would have found another way to kill himself anyway.\" that is just not so. a millisecond can mean a lot when you have or dont have a gun. thats my two cents.

hope i didnt offend.

Overall I think its just too subjective. Its nice to talk about I suppose. But everyone\'s \"thought\" on guns is based mostly on experience. Some people love them cuz they have never experienced hardships at the hands of a gun. Or because a gun has helped them out in a situation or provided entertainment\\food (hunting). Others hate them because they HAD to use them, or like in the story above. All valid reasons, which is why I usually just keep to myself on issues such as these.

I was into archery, I have a hoyt compound bow, camoflaged of course, when I wooped the top local after 1 year, I must say I got a great feeling :D I was also in the TA and used various weaponry, and have shot on ranges. That gave me a real buzz as well, but I think guns should be reserved for police/army etc. and ranges.
You put them on the street and someone will get killed, my friend did this when he was targeted by a ruthless drug dealer, and armed bank robber, the bullet went up through his body a logged in his head.

So I would say I like guns, I\'m facinated by them, I cant help it, but any weapons should stay at the ranges, as the honerable reverend said, a good punch up is better than blowing someones brains out. I also hate the knife culture, weak shits.

I paint my thumb.
While much of it is said already, I think I\'ll add my taught on this...

While It\'s true that firearms could be a very fun and entertaining hobby, for those that collect or adepts off shooting ranges... being familiar with ( But not very good at.) archery, I can understand that.

But firearms are tools basically designed to hurt people ( Don\'t think it\'s for hunting; bows are made for hunting, guns are made to hurt people.) and knowing how much the general population can be trusted, I don\'t think that civilian should be allowed to posses tools that are designed to hurt, or kill, people.
I believe most people would agree that this hobby, isn\'t much sacrifice to spare the many people that die from firearm, amongst civilian population.
But the large firearm companies are influent in the lobbies and it\'s not in their interest that people, civilians and criminals alike, stop buying, and firing their guns, so that is never gonna happen.

As for the fairness aspect, I think a gun fight is just as honest as a good brawl, has long as both sides are as heavily armed. The only good habit that has been lost is the traditionnal choosing of weapons and terms of the battle.

While firearms should be banned, old fashion dueling should be revived.

I\'m not sure I get the point, but looking for honesty and fairness in any kind of violence seems to me a bit like measuring the literary value of an anthill. And if you disagree it\'s glue guns at 15 paces. Ha!

The first problem with anti-gun laws is that while the good people that want to follow the laws will give up their guns, the bad people who want to use them to commit crimes will not, making it even harder for the good people to defend themselves.
The police do not protect you from crimes, they merely solve them after the fact, which does not do you a whole lot of good if you\'ve been murdered.
I mean honestly, if I was planning to commit murder, which has the stiffest of penalties, do you think a superfluous charge of having an illegal gun is going to even phase me?

The second problem, for us Americans anyway, is the Second Amendment, which is probably one of the most clear and precise rights we Americans have in our constitution.
