First submissions: Looking for feedback

I recently submitted 2 miniatures, and I was looking for some constructive feedback on them. I've only been painting minis for a few years, and so I'm trying to learn as much as I can and become a better painter. All of the miniatures that I paint are for gaming with. I don't really worry about adding base detailing because for our gaming sessions, it's really inconvenient and limits the use of the figure for us.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/289636 -Brass Bull; I painted this a couple years ago. It was my first try at painting metallics, and quite some time before I learned the all important techniques of prepping and priming miniatures. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the eye of the mini, which is red and glowy.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/289605 -Basilisk; I painted it as it was described in the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual. I wanted to look like it was kind of mottled and had dirt on it from living underground. I painted the rocks on the base in similar tones to show how effective the basilisk's skin is for camouflage.

Please let me know what you think and give me some feedback so that I can improve my skills. Thank you!

Hi, photos are a bit dark but I would say you need to bring the highlights right up. With metallics you can use washes of blue, purple etc to get lots of effects - best to just try them out. :

I'd say to make sure you're thinning your paints a bit more, and build up in thin layers.

I agree about the Washes, are a great way to build depth.

How would you suggest that I correct any darkness in the photo itself? As in, what kind of lighting set up would be best for photographing minis? This is my first time taking pictures of them, and so I'm a complete n00b when it comes to how to set up a proper "studio" for photography. I don't have tons of space, though. ^^;

thinning the paints and using washes as mentioned previously will lead you to blending ........as for that and other tips ie photography.......
check out the tutorials...lots of great stuff there and welcome to CMON
