Here is another pic of it I got from a friend of mine who was there. I cropped it, cut out the background, and blew it up to see if we could get a better look.

I have a suspicion that he bought all of them from MAS. I sent them an email this afternoon regarding the whole situation.

The Demons this year were tough in many categories, notable exception being the LoTR Group which had the fewest entries I\'ve seen in it. That said, I\'m still very proud of winning it anyway. My Army of the Dead did also make First Cut in Baltimore last year too, and I did make First Cut also in the LoTR Single category which was as tough as I\'ve seen.

And, as for the cheater, I do remember seeing him, perpetually angry was the best description I saw. He was probably irritated he spent so much on models and only won 1 bronze :/ Shame really, but that\'s beating on a tired subject.

Now, those who are going to Baltimore, be ready! I\'ll have a new and improved
Hawaiian Flowery Colourful shirt ready and there will be much merriment and mirth!

On the UPSIDE of Atlanta Games Day, what a great time!! i\'m glad i got to see and/or meet a lot of you this year! Tracy and Becca, in particular...you guys are SO WONDERFUL for what you do. i would be MORE than happy to donate my time and work to your fantastically generous cause. My sincere apologies for not doing so earlier!
PSH! dont apologize! just know that whenever you get the chance the option is totally there.

i know i\'ve forgotten some names of people i saw or met this weekend, but my brain is still rather a complex meld of oatmeal and tofu...
ew. oatmeal and tofu. disgusting.

i\'ll try to add some shots of the Giant i painted for the Studio booths into my account thingy here. Lemme know what you think!
I think you should, I saw it there and really liked it (and thats not because papa plays ogres) I said you should get more involved in CMON! :)

P.S. Becca...i\'m still waiting for that letter to the WD Mailbox you promised me... I actually have a draft of it started, but this girl needed some sleep! 3 hours of sleep a day for the past weekend can really mess with your english! I still promise you will get one before the week is out, just wish me luck on midterms! *eep*:D

That\'s kinda disappointing to hear as this is the first time I painted something for golden demon. I still had a good time and my model made first cut in WHF single (WE Lord w/ great weapon). Hopefully there will be a pic on the GW website. Now I know what I need to do to place, CONVERT something interesting!!!!

There you go SLAYER SWORD 2006 Atlanta...

That is such an awesome piece. The amount of conversion is just sick.

I hope to get pictures of all of my entries taken and posted tomorrow. Depends on how bad work is now that I\'m back.

Congratulations to everyone who placed. Most of the categories were tougher than ever this year. This event is definitely seeing some better entries now.

I have done some serious snooping around thor867\'s ebay stuff and found this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8724205360

Also his feedback shows some lovely purchases from a few of our own such as chest of colours, who incidentaly left a very ironic feedback:

He describes himself in his auctions
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8727011758

as

\"PAINTER OF FANTASY AND HISTORICAL FIGS 20 YEARS PAINTING AND MULTIBLE AWARDS 4 TIME DAEMON WINNER ,22 TIME BEST ARMY\"

Gawd I hope he\'s lying about the four demons there too....

I\'m still snooping around. A bunch of us should contact Microart Studio about that squad for pics...

Really sad that this seems overshadow the brilliant event that it seemed to have been.
Now a lot of people talks about the cheating instead of the painting. But on the good side.. it was detected soon.
I instantly recognized edgeofshadows pegasus and demoncolours Shaggoth.

But I\'m actually a bit thrilled about the prospects of nailing this bastard! Feels like where in the middle of a really
interesting detective novel. Great detective work SaxonAngel!
He seems to be rather stupid if he didn\'t see this coming. All the auctions are there. Did he enter that wood elves noble too?

Hope he hasn\'t won earlier with fraud miniatures.. I\'m not thinking GD as those pictures are everywhere, but on smaller events.

EDIT: there\'s no \"Andy Savage\" on the list of golden demon winners. No other Andy or Andrew seems suspicious either.

Man, I\'m gutted! After seeing SaxonAngel\'s piece at the top of the thread I really thought the Slayer winner was going to be shit-hot, but - conversion aside - it is painted to a much lower standard. I was racing through the thread to find the picture as well. Gutted!

Well done Angela by the way - very atmospheric piece.

Hm, to be honoust I\'m not that overly thrilled by the overall winning miniature. Though the conversion is very good, and the painting is quite good as well, the freehand is not up to the same standard if you ask me. It may also be primarily due to personal taste though. Don\'t get me wrong: it\'s a good mini, but not his best piece for example.

Besides that, on \"that other topic\":
Past GD winners named Andrew/Andy, some of them will be very familiar to us, some less.
Andrews: Bigwood, Calladine, Cromwell, Daborn, Kaye, Last, Long, Lum, Woodman, B. Muir, P. Smith.
And two guys called Andy: Portas, Thomas.
Not that I think this list will be of any help, but maybe someone recognizes a name. (And this way I can promote the wonderfull French unofficial golden demon archive at demonwinner.free.fr, where this list is taken from)

I will second that mate. Angela\'s piece is far better. No disrespect meant of course.

umm,

i agree with some of the comments just posted. not to take away from the fabulous acheivement of winning a slayer sword, but the quality of that winning entry seems very much below what most current swordwinners have created...

it looks like it would have struggled to make the cut in all of the last years international GD\'s. :(

well...

the other GDs...paris, spain, italy are considered the hardest ones....

Uk gets the most participants.

THe only problem with the US is since there are 4, you don\'t get the best artists all going to 1...they get split up among 4...so overall, its not as concentrated; that and the europeans seem to value art more...their stuff in france and spain are just nuts...

many sword winners here, won\'t get a gold or silver there...

I found the same auction last night, and I did send MAS an email (2 actually), but I have not hear back yet.

I did not notice the other auction though, were he claims he is a 4 time Golden Demon winner!

For me the paintjob is a 6.... the conversion work is another matter, really nice, very original etc etc, but i can\'t believe with this paintjob standard they gave him the slayer... afterall GD is a painting comp. they say....

To be fair to Jeff, the model looks much better in person, and any model\'s flaws are visable when it is magnified many times.

That being said, I was suprised that this model won. I had expected Jeff Wilson to win, but for his amazing wardancers, not for his single entry.
