it\'s always nice to be able to shut a screamin\' red shirt up with a demon to the mouth...
i love gw minis, but most of the stores are a chore to visit...
between the tattoos and the 4 foot dreadlocks, the redshirts usually treat my like i\'m the crazy bum that walked in off the street to talk to the painted minis in the display case...
it\'s always worth a trip to the l.a. battle bunker to get forgeworld parts though...
as for price hikes and gw retail policies, it\'s still possible to fund discounts, and making friends with managers always helps...
forgeworld is the only thing i ever pay full retail for...

Luckily the only GW\'s within my range are:
York - My demon and Winning Dio was left in their window for months, they try to sell me nothing (the manager has been there years).
Leeds - Steve the manager was a regular when I was a red-shirt (MANY years ago).
So the amount of hassle I get is slim to none.
I\'ve just sold the last of my GW-mini\'s on ebay.

Lol alex u muppet. Well let me clear some stuff up for you folk.
I will never ever pounce on a woman who enters through the door as it just typically scares the crap out of them and will kill the hobbyist if you do that.
Also i have dealt with a couple of female painters, but no gamers as of yet but tbh treat them the same as anyone else and you shall be approached instead of approaching them.
TBH and alex will vouge for me on this i will never run directly at a potential customer as it can make you look desperate i actually just greet them and ask if they require help and if its a no ill give them a couple of minutes to look around and only if they do look cofused i will ask them again just to see if they actually do know what there looking for.
i also do look after my regulars in gw very well and have most on FB or msn and ask them to pop down to veterans night and challenge to a fantasy game.
So in defence of you stero-typing gw staff members are not all clueless or thrusting sales down your throat.
you can also ask how many jokes me and alex have and i never force him to buy things i will tell him about gamesday or events i know that will be approaching that\'ll intrest him.
Also about the age range group i actually beg to differ it aint 12 - 16 the reason most people say that are either still at uni or college and leave at similar times as school people and when they enter the store they see children thus making the impression its turned to a nursrey, well you will find the dirty vertrans or the more mature age range hit our store at 530ish as most of the mature group have to work for a living to earn cash lol.
Well don\'t flame me lol i just wanted to point out im not the next money laundering tycoon!

I can appreciate the way you approach your customers. I worked in GAME, very mainstream store. If you pounce people they just leave and do not come back. Can you come work in Belfast

Kewl - that does sound much more pleasant. Could you pass these pearls of wisdom onto your colleague in Winchester please? I might have actually bought something if I\'d been given the opportunity to cruise the shelves a bit.
Fortunately, at 6\' tall and with over three years\' experience of international living in three pretty diverse countries, I don\'t scare easily. What I do do is vow never to return to places where I\'ve had an irritating experience. Life\'s too short.

??? Where have you been, they have been doing this since it happened to me in 2003. They don\'t want ANY of their products sold online, and in 2003 had eBay close all auctions and sales of GW products for a few weeks until it got sorted out they cannot control what people do with their own personal tangible property.
It was already too late for some GW/eBay sellers, but they don\'t care right? They only help get products out there and gain interest int he hobby, so who needs those chumps?
I think WotC and GW are fighting over who can go under first, and with HASBRO trying to shop around for buyers for WotC, I think GW is losing. lol

lol is it bad that i have never even heard of them til now wotc i mean :S and tbh games workshop is losing im not saying this coz im a mere maggot within the company
but coz were brick and mortar to you shall be surprised how well it does coz you can occasionally end up wandering past and ppl think ooo i need chaos black spray and end up in store seeing the range of paints and decide to stock up.So tbh im not even worried whos go down as gw have been around before i was born and thats for a reason they know there market very well, spite what anyone else says there have been other companies try and topple the giant and have to say have worried gw but they always end up succeeding, again don\'t take this as me jumping in aid of gw just trying to get some people who think gw aint so clever are actually always got a plan in there hand.
And thanks amazon for the compliment before and master of fact actually gw and game store are really good friends of mine in my local game because there all gamers to lol

Sources are saying yes, because the number of book sales has already declined below HASBRO required minimum product sales as with original, and WotC books are putting off production of HASBRO books that would sale better. Also 5th edition is already in the works, should WotC not find a buyer for it for the price being asked.
The source is supposedly coming from a recently (within the past year or so) let go employee.
Like GW screwing over people, all the others in the industry trying to make more money for lower quality product, they are feeling the crunch when people stop buying said product.
and....GIMME THAT CHICKEN EGG! Trade you an old school bolter marine for it. lol

Only as long as turnabout\'s fair play. I once met a guy in Aus who was a MASSIVE D&D 3.5 fan (and who clearly frequented the LGS judging by his huge collection of D&D prepaints), but when we mentioned GW he was like, \"Who?\" lol
@Shadzar: I see. Interesting (but potentially sad) news. Love \'em or hate them, you can\' t deny that Wizards have had a huge effect on the RPG hobby. Just as well there\'s all those 3.5 ed books still kicking around tho, isn\'t it?
Mind you, I only have the three core books plus DMG2 and a Forgottie Realms source book from them (and a couple of boosters of the prepaints). All my other D&D books are old 2nd ed Planescape stuff bought off Ebay because I love the setting and the source material is so wonderfully presented and rich. And no you can\'t have my chickie, it\'s MINE! If I ever catch another one, you can have it tho.

aye i have mady MANY impulse purchases ther over the years. i don\'t think i would have bought any gw if it weren\'t for me going in to buy the books and ending up have a look around

When 4th edition was released, we looked at our collective stack of books and said, \"We\'re not buying that all over again.\" And then... we just sort of stopped playing.
They also dumbed down 4th edition significantly, probably to attract younger players. You know, the ones who probably can\'t afford to spend $20-$30 on a book and probably don\'t have the collector\'s urge to buy an entire series.
Honestly, there was so much more that could be done with 3.5... they could have kept milking that successfully for a long while.

from what i see, lots of people seem to like 4E.
We play what we consider 4.5E. We\'ve added tons of house rules onto it, mixing the best from 2e/3.5E and 4E and then adding stuff on top of that, that no game system has really done yet.

hehe well no matter who or what company it is you shall always receive complaints the bigger the company the more complaints you shall receive.
But i can understand why the veterans get annoyed or the mature market do, and at timesi have questioned some of the moves, but at the end of the day most people either move onto other companies or start a club with there mates. and as sanjay said best way to play is for fun and evolve the game to best suit you folks, actually i have a regular who actually involves real animals in his game dont ask how it works lol but also each battle he loses his opponent get to grab his leader and rolls on a chart and for example if he rolls for leg he gets to cut the models leg off infront of the players face.
like i said i can see why people get annoyed with price hikes and i wont lie no one likes price rises but if its about the rules really play it how you think it should other wise your playing like a power gamer which can be very tedious and very boring almost like being back at school.
Do what you enjoy, plus also to show you im not just a gw fanboy check my other posts out i talk about p3 and brushes of other companies.

I think it\'s just that GW has changed, in my memory it\'ll always be the store in Manchester 20 odd years ago with a plethora of fascinating product unavailable in any other high street store (viewed with child\'s eyes).
In a more general sense I fear the effect that internet shopping will have/is having on our high streets. Yes I could save 5-20% mail-ordering but as local indy stores & small specialist chains vanish we lose the variety & browsability from our city centres. There\'s already little enough unless you want to buy coffee, clothes or a mobile phone. Perhaps we all need to buy less crap though, bit too materialistic currently (I say with a new box of Empire Archers sat along with the unpainted figures & unread books!).
I have found a couple of friends who are unable to comprehend my preference to travel to a bricks & mortar location & then pay more for the goods when I could have sat on my bum at home & waited for the stuff to arrive by express courier though. I suspect I\'m in the minority?
Last thought, I\'ve always lived in cities, I guess those in more rural/remote locations appreciate the joys of mail-order rather more.

Okay my 2 pounds worth....I\'ve loved going into GW shops cos I can talk with some people who don\'t look at me weird when I mention anything like converting such and such a thing into .... or if I was talking about LoTR, girls aren\'t meant to know about those kind of things.
GW needs its bricks and mortar shops, the internet shop won\'t work for them. The Internet has alot to answer for in the way things go up and offers you can only find online. At least GW shops have a computer point so you can see if its online and order it there and then (some peeps don\'t have a computer)
One other point is I live in the country (wales) and if i want to go to GW i\'ve got 1 hour 30 mins travelling to get to my local GW (chester and manchester) either way,but for the advice and conversation I get out of those places, I don\'t mind the price hike. I will still pay and hope that the company is around for a long time to come.:drunk::cussing:
