you cleary misunderstand the first cut process. The first cut does not mean that the entries are judged against the others, but there are rather certain factors looked for, like painting, conversion work, narative etc being of a certain quality. there are no set number of places to make it through first cut, and one lo at seb\'s completely scratchbuilt entry will tell you it belongs in the second round.
There is no time to throroughly weigh the entries against eachother in the first cut, so they do the judging in this fashion, it\'s used to weed throyugh the entries, nad give thejudges an easier time when the \'real\' judging begins

Due to the number of entries, the judges start judging as soon as entries start booking in. It is quite common to hand an entry over to a judge and for them to put a sticker on it then and there. There\'s no quota of how many entries in a category will make the first cut so, when a figure is so obviously \'that good\' they just mark it right away to save time later.

Nothing weird going on. Seb was working in the lower hall (he\'s a GW sculptor) and so booked in his entry right at the start.

To me this isnt annoying. Although i think there is a certain number of green stickers supposed to be given out, im sure they dish out more. But this entry was obviously stunning and Obviously deserved at least finals.
Just my opinion though (as i didnt enter open so other people might think different)

Giganticdark I wouldn\'t take it as personal it\'s just the way it is.

I handed over my WFB single mini, bent down to put the card in and close my case, stood up and the green sticker was on the ID card and no-one in sight.
That was a serious strange WTF moment.

When you think about it last year there were over 1600 entries in the 40K single mini category alone, with something like 4½ Thousand entries in all the categories!.
To try and judge that lot in a knock-out rounding would be horrendous!

THe judging gets enough of a \"slagging\" without getting one for running late! ;)

Ah ha! Didn\'t realise that was you, 7ommy!
Anyhow you walked right past Tammy, SJB, Kittykat23Uk, Ramon Laan, & I to get past the stage.

Well done in both categories, a deserved pair of wins!!!

Yep, he\'s mine! Not sure where I\'m going to put him now as he wont fit in my cabinet \'cause the base is too big! I\'m afraid I didn\'t see your entry very well Margo. I didn\'t really get a good look at most of the other entries because of the crowds. I was very impressed with Seb\'s entry that won though!

Still want one of those FW Chaos dragons when they come out!

Regards

Kat

I entered 6 categories:-

40K Squad - Cadian Military Police
Fantasy Single - Maraider Chieftan
Fantasy Unit - Empire Greatswords
Fantasy Monster - Empire Steam Tank
Duel - Famous Last Words (Ork Bommer \"tank-busting\")
Open - Slayer Bust

All of which made the first cut. I was lucky enough to win Gold for both the Fantasy Unit and Duel, and a Bronze for 40K Squad!

:D

Do be patient though - the pictures on GW do not do anyone\'s pieces justice, though we should be up to GW HQ early in December to have the \"official\" pictures taken.

I may have put my words out wrong somehow! What I meant was that he is a very good painter but his conversion/sculpt skills are also very good. I just suspected he would become a sculptor sooner. (I agree that one year is fast though!)

The moment I saw his Nurgle Daemon Prince at GD I was a fan. And up till now he proves he\'s very good! I mean winning a prize in the open three times in three years!!!

(So another subject entirely...Are you still coming back to Amsterdam Tammy?)

there\'s roughly 8000 people at games day vikey.

@skrit: nope, i\'m moving to london beginning of next year, if all goes according to plan, so i\'ll have to live without fresh \'broodjes haring\' and \'Febo nasiballen\' for a while longer....
