I had a word after the presentations and they apologised for not giving out the usual Winner\'s Letter (they\'ll be in the post), and that the beginning of December was the most likely Studio appointment.

Just in from 1000 km drive over the last few days... Yup I went by car (and boat)
Twas nice to have a good chat on saturday with Tammy again (I felt right at home on that throne ) and on games day itself it was great to see all of you again. At the beginning of this year Koen, Jasper and I tried to form a dutch pact to criticise eachothers work in order to improve. Though I wish Koen and Jasper were harsher for me (2 first cuts from 3 entries, getting old...) I think They did brilliant. Koens 40K Ork monster deserved the bronze for sure. And I told you guys Jasper would place didn\'t I? His 3 trolls in Minas Tirith Absolutely ruled the category from the start (only took him 700 hours to build....).
So, a few things I want of my chest, and I do not intend to flame here. But first, Hardys Prince. Great model and lovbely painting. The fact it didn\'t place IMHO had nothing to do with teh painting quality. The religeous stuff is simply banned by the rules. But anyway, I felt that he just missed the point of iconography totally here. Why would you put christian stuff on a 40K figure at all? And we are talking about a very lifelike crist head with thorny wreath here... Might as well paint on a Sigmarite iconography, or freehand a nice serene woodland scene In short: the iconography did not fit at all!
The this. Trust me if I say that the marauder was frickin\' amazin! The standard of the GD was totally unbelievable. Just take a look what stuff did notplace (Ultramarine springs to mind...)
While I agree that I had a few questionmarks with the WF single bronze it was such a weird entry that evn with my nose pressed against the glass I could not see much of it at all....
Oh and on that can of worms mentioned by Steve... I think I will save up some money, commission someone like, I don\'t know, the level of Brian Nelson?? to make a mini. Then I\'ll cough up enough dough to let Matt Parkes paint it up it, then I\'ll do the drybrushing of a few sand grains on the base and enter that? I am just kidding of course. But it was all pretty clear before when it was clearly stated that you would have to enter your won work. With the example above everyone would know that the work was not mine... But how about taking something like the scene from Jasper (gold diorama) for example. The fcat that he spend 700 hours o it and still lives is amzing in itself. But if we from CMON would all pool up and do one piece of a whole diorama ouwld it also not take away a little bit of the whole thing (700 hours divided by 70 people is quite OK for a placing in the finals....)
Truly? I don\'t know what to think about collaborations actually... But where it was once pretty clear it is now a hugely grey area to be exploited by unimaginable cleer tricks... I shudder.

Hello all,
Just to say a big thanks to Tammy for organising the meet up. I was really cool to see you guys and I hope to catch up again in the future.
My entry for fantasy single mini is up and hopeful will get approved soon. It made the cut, but alas, didn\'t place. The quality of the winners really was very good, a big step above my skill anyway! I didn\'t get to see the bronze WF Single as it was gone form the cabinet by half 2!!! Curious ???
Ah well must start earlier next year!!!

I entered six categories, made 4 cuts and was in the top five in the large scale, I was very pleased.
met some really nice people - Dragonsreach, Medved, tenToOne, Christian Blair, Jacob, Mike Anderson, Allan_C and the amazingly talented Victor Hardy.
I had a long chat with VH just after spending about half and hour staring at his entry with my jaw firmly on the floor. I don\'t care what anyone says about religious iconography - his entry was one of the best minis I have ever seen, and I have been looking at them for over 20 years.
When you look at the way that GW bends the rules for certain people at previous GD\'s, I think that a bit of leniancy could have been shown for someone who has travelled from the states and spent 2 years (yes, thats right TWO YEARS) working on his entry, I am not saying that there should be favouritism, oh no, but just take a look at previous years winners then look at the rules - like - Open winners not being able to win the sword (Matt Parkes with the chariot tournamount) entries being on a proper game base (too many to mention) and this years entry from Mr. Parkes and Co. (note: I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone I have mentioned, this is not aimed at the artists, but GW)
anyway, hope I haven\'t upset too many people, but It was a great day, and I thought the entries were better than ever, even though that once again, the judging was iffy.

i have to say too that mr hardy\'s mini was just awesome. forget GD that mini would rock here. he has seriously messed my mind up now. the WF bronze certainly seemed a bit odd but hey it happens. @ramon thanks for all the advice about sculpting...let me know when you get some casts made of the seductress, and i wouldnt mind having a go at your mini slaan!
thanks to tammy for not dropping my mini and all the other painters for just being there and being good at painting. seeing the stuff we do in real life made me want to try out some new stuff.
@sjb i\'m going to start meditating a good half hour before i start with the green stuff just to get my psychic mood settled.............now i bet you are all confused???

I\'ll be thelast to say that the judging had=s been consistent through the years, or the rules for that matter, but I do undertsand the decision. On the other hand, one of the judges told me Hardy would have taken the sword if the imagery wasn\'t christian.

Oh and does anyone have any photos of the dozen or so Adeptus Custodes conversions there? The Jakob Nielsen one on the GW site was probably the worst one of the bunch amusingly enough. There was one mounted on a brown wooden show base holding a force halberd in the right hand and pointing with his left, was a beautiful conversion.

So how do they judge joint entries? I am kind of surprised they allow that, unless they made a seperate category for it it doesn\'t seem fair to the people that do both on their own. I recall seeing a figure somewhere on here not too long ago that was a joint effort (I think for the German GD maybe) and was kind of surprised by that. Not that I am all that familiar with the rules, just seemed odd to me.

Yeah, after carefully blending every single scale and underpainting, then glazing the wings to build up the colour, the guy suggested I ought to have considered drybrushing it! :duh: I don\'t understand what goes through their minds sometimes..... Though he thought the purple was a bit out of place on the rocks. But I think that personally it helps to balance the blue and purple tones on the dragon and keeps the rocks dark without looking unpainted. Again, he suggested drybrushing the rocks with codex grey and then glazing with black.... Hmmm... I\'d have liked to know what the judges thought as he was just one of the stewards.
