GW Price Hike

Hi all, I hope you are well. For those that don\'t know, GW intend to elevate the prices of some of their range. I saw this on the news section of the GW site:

Pricing Update
In June we will be increasing the price of some of our metal, plastic and hobby products. This price change will take effect from the 1st of June.

With the current climate are people still going to be able to afford to spend masses of cash on essentially luxury items? Or will we all be eating less ? Or do GW just expect that people will buy their products anyway? Now, I don\'t wish to start a witch-hunt nor am I preaching that GW are an Evil Empire, but I would like to hear your thoughts on this.....

I thought it was just the second part of the previous price hike?

and spending money will stimulate the economy therefore helping to get out of the credit crunch, while no money is going into the world economy and vast quantities are being kept because people want to have their money , its just wasting away. The economy needs to be stimulated by a cash inflow becuase if their is more monry going in that means their is more money to spend which means their is more money going in so their is more to spend etc.......
That\'s my basic understanding but it may be way out from the truth lol

I don\'t know if this is related to the previous price hike, there is no indication either way. My point was simply that people have less expendable income these days, many people are losing/have lost their jobs so if they don\'t have money to spend, they can\'t stimulate the economy. Catch 22 I guess!

This thread thread on Warseer virtually blew up when GW announced the prices on the Empire Greatswords (25 £ for 10).

From the responses I think that most people aren´t gonna take it if these prices are indicative of what´s to come...

Edit: and regarding the pure financial reasoning, it would make more sense to lower the price in hope of stimualting the market instead of trying to squeeze the last penny out of those who can´t live without their metal(plastic)-fixes - that´s basic economics..

Pfft, its beyond! I hardly ever buy G.W minis any more now mostly down to price. Painting for GD has become a chore as I simply cant get into the mood of the settings any more. Everything feels so forced and cash driven.

I dont want to pay out for re-hash\'s of old minis either.

Its disappointing.

I have a solution! Buy ACTUAL old minis from eBay. There\'s a slew of awesome vintage GW minis out there, and I assume you can enter that stuff in the Demons. It\'d be great to see 80\'s/90\'s stuff painted to a high 2009 standard entered at GD.

I totally agree with you No Such Agency, the older GW is remarkable! I would love to see a high scoring CMON pic of an old termie lol

We have talked about this at work many a time. I\'m in retail in this market. There is two way to make money. Sell for less and try to make it on volume or the GW way, sell less but charge more. Eventually you will alienate majority of your customer base. If the price goes to high and people can\'t afford or see the product as too expensive for what you get, no value and they will stop buying and move on to another game.\'
We have made predictions at work and we say eventually GW will be bought out by a company like Hasbro. They will clean house and turn GW minis in to pre-painted plastic, just like Rackham. I don\'t like the Confrontation plastic minis but AT-43 to me look great. I have bought some and I don\'t even play the game. I tell customers if you crack open a D&D minis booster you can play in 5 minutes and if you have a repeat rare, turn around and sell it and make some of your money back. You crack open a GW blister, what do you have, 15 cents worth of pewter. GW is slowly turning all their product to plastic and how hard will it be to pack up and move to the far east with cheap labour and still charge $50 for 5 plastic minis.
Something to think about........???

firstly, they are a business, second, Mr Brown has debaced Pound sterling recently and it\'s starting to filter through.
(prices going up is part of course due to the inflationary practice of fractional reserve banking, it\'s your money that is worth less, not the price going up[supply and demand is another part of it] for the most part)

add to this increases in taxation and you have your reasons.

and those that are complaining about £2.50 per model when buying twenty five, wake up you prats, you readily spend £10+ on a single man sized model of theirs because it\'s more important in the game!

£2.50 for a good quality mini is a bargain.
being able to game on good quality tables for no, or little charge is a bargain.

i realy would like to see all of the people who bitch about the price rises constantly, go into business for themselves, it will wake you up, it did with me.

Hey Wow a GW bashing thread, I\'m off to have a beer :innocent::beer:

Quite frankly I couldn\'t give a toss! I spend so little there it\'s not relevant anymore. Now if the pound got stronger against the Euro and Pegaso miniatures got cheeper, THAT would make me smile :D

Amen, thiosulfate. I\'m a student myself, and haven\'t bought any GW stuff since I was still at home getting a weekly allowance from Mom & Dad. I know plenty of other folks, too, who are mildly interested in the hobby and the game, and the expense turns them off completely.

I would like to re-iterate my point in the initial post in this thread, this is not intended to be a GW-bashing thread, merely a discussion of the price increase and how it might affect your purchases from GW. lol GW bashing threads are ten - a - penny, no need for another! Cheers!
