\"how\" things are judged is still a complete mystery to me. What the judges are briefed on prior to judging is unknown. I could be cynical here, but I wont.
There is an order of events that happen regarding judging (first cut........etc) but exactly what is judged is a mystery

I think there was a convo about that at GD. Tis a complete mystery! But my bets on dice rolling of some sort...
I would pipe for sacrifice of naked virgins, but c\'mon, were talikng about a group of people whos\' only intimate encounter with the ladies is an 0900 number...

FW best of show is decided by some Forge World guys (Mark and Warwick this time I think) wandering around while the final judging is going on in all of the categories and picking the model or squad of models that they think should get the prize. It\'s a simple as that!
The actual criteria they use... well yes, I think magical elves and tick-tock imps are indeed involved.
I\'m guessing from your query that you were hoping to win this. If so I wouldn\'t worry about it that you didn\'t. Golden Demon isn\'t an exact science at the best of times and even less so with the Forge World award!

I don\'t know about final cut or anything, but last year after the second round (remembering this is OZ GD) we recieved a form which had a whole lot of different areas they were marking on and a scale weighting each thing.
The areas included \"was the model converted?; were there more than three levels of highlight?, was the model cleaned properly (flash removed etc)? and so on\"
Once you get to final cut though I think it is just personal asthetics really, how could it be anything else. Different people have different tastes.

in a painting contest is:
1) if blending was used, is it as smooth as possible
2) are metallics done with multiple levels of hilites as if it was NMM
3) if NMM is used, refer to 1) AND do the light areas make sense
4) if it\'s a sculpture, does it look professionally done in terms of quality/detail, etc
Stuff like that.
Regardless of your taste, a good blend is a good blend, a hilite is a hilite, etc.

Thats true, but for final cut where skill levels are very close it could be colour selection, base work, is it TO busy or TO plain?
Such things will be a matter of taste. I tend to like figures with less detail for example where someone else might like heaps of detail.
