I\'m guessing from your query that you were hoping to win this. If so I wouldn\'t worry about it that you didn\'t. Golden Demon isn\'t an exact science at the best of times and even less so with the Forge World award!

Yes you got it right i was hoping to win with this: http://www.coolminiornot.com/134603 but the Deamon jugdes came over and some lad ponited out a few mini\'s from the finalist\'s and they judged them, so the judges didn\'t even look at my model..(it was a finalist which i was pleased about). But I was gutted as well, this was my first time entering and i don\'t know if i\'ll enter again... Its was the same with the forgeworld guys...they came round and didn\'t even look at the dame model :flame: I was gutted

Well I would have to see what did win to make a proper judgement, but based on previous years I don\'t think that is statue winning standard IMO.
Not that it is not a nice paint job but it is pretty flat in areas (like the brown - Tin? - armour plates) and the pattern on the wings doesn\'t rock my boat either.
Wether you enter again is up to you but it is the easiest option to blame others for not achieving the level you wanted. The reality is it probably has nothing to do with the WAY the comp was judged but rather who painted the better entry.

Sorry but your figure wouldn\'t have won if I was judging either. It just doesn\'t grab me, and aside from one or two points there is nothing that makes me go wow.

Well, I was there, and I too must agre that the judgeing this year was certianly suspect in some cases...

for 40K vehicle, there\'s no way that either that little Gobbo tank, nor the sentinel should have one. There was much better stuff in there (no offense if anyone here painted either). The Slaneesh? demon engine should defo have placed- it was pretty spectaular. (and yea, this was the cat that I entered, an that demon engine wasn\'t mine...)

As for the demon in the link above - Large creature - well, from what i saw it was a hotly contested category, and you had to have some thing pretty special. Deserved of the cut, but a figure unconverted, and a good paintg job, just wont cut it...

At what position was your mini in the display case before the final judging? i.e. after it had a green sticker and other non finalists removed what shelf did it end up on?

If you were on the lower shelf areas i.e. not the top two levels then you probably wouldn\'t have made it through to the best three of the lot selection.

I have been informed that the judges do look at all entries at some stage during the day stickered and not stickered.

However as is always the case GW judging can be a fickle beast at the best of times.

You would think with all of the complaints no one would bother entering.

But then again; with the complaints of price gouging you\'d think people would stop buying GW\'s stuff too.

this is the first time you\'ve entered and you\'re gutted you made the first cut? and with 2 minis?
plenty of others enter for years without even achieving that, be glad you got that, put them in a frame and hang \'em on your wall, use them to inspire you for next year

and I must ask why you painted it grey? It\'s not exactly a \"LOOK AT ME! I\'M OVER HERE!!\" kinda color really

I have to echo what mick 22 said. Even placing this year was an achievement, the standard of some entries that never even made the cut was awesome.

I did find the judging a tad weird this year though, not for what was chosen, but as soon as I entered my white dwarf for the fantasy single miniature they had green stickered him before even putting him in the cabinet which I thought was odd.

Thats the way the judging system works, the, the people your handing your entry too tend to be Eveay Metal guys or designors. So they are allready judging from the start. If they feel the miniature warrants a serious look over they add the green dot to the tag and place it in one case with the other green dotted miniatures. This is how they do the first cut. After that the green dotted figures are pulled out and looked at more closely to make a final cut and then for 1-3rd.

As for how or why things win, thats open for debate but rest assure all miniatures are looked at in the beginning.

That is what I was told and also those without green dots get a second look by some one else apparently.

Yep, they stickered my 40K single entry as they put it in the cabinet.... anything they think is certainly above average I think they will sticker straight away.... as you said, the people accepting the entries off people are actually the judges so it\'s well within their discretion to do so.

As for what did and didn\'t get seriously considered for the final judging.... it was a bit wierd.... I certainly remember two 40K squads that I was astounded didn\'t make it to the judging table... one was a squad of \'nids with dragonfly wings that were transparrent and irridescent and just utterly beyond belief (would love to know how they were made!) and the second was a squad of dirty great converted orks in desert camo running down a sand-dune, which (from where I was standing at least) looked pretty awesome.... and neither even made the table :-S

Some of the stuff in large scale that didn\'t make the grade was also pretty amazing.... that inquisitor size model of the emperor holding the demon head was pretty special (though I wasn\'t too sure about the demon head being totally gloss varnished?)

Anyway... I didn\'t see any virgins or altars, but then again the NEC is a big place, they may well have had a back room or something....

PS: I\'d also have to agree that the winners in 40K vehicle were a bit dissapointing.

PSS: does anyone have any idea how I was told by Tom (GD organiser) himself that joint entries were DEFINITELY banned from GD and yet two winning entries were joint entries (by the same pair)?

And I assume they will definitely release a bookelt of the winners like last year, it was so hotly anticipated and well received, they\'d be mad not to repeat it.

Just a pity it takes until February to get it together!

Hotly anticipated but not well received in some quarters.............poor quality compared to some years; bad pics paper too thin. I really hope the next one will be worth keeping

They all have their backs to the judges so that people can se the mini/entry

It seems that if the mini are around the top two shelves before the top shelf is cleared or is on the shelf below the cleared top shelf there is a chance it might, just might be concidered for a demon, adjust the number of shelves for the size of entries i.e. diorama as they will obviously take up more room
