Harbinger......some unofficial info...

D
Please don\'t tar me with the same brush as the troll - I put my points forward in a reasonable manner - I did not deliberately insult anyone and I don\'t believe I said anything untrue.

Rev and Hex - please don\'t take offense - but you have to understand I am skeptical when every single one of your figure posts has an advertisement for stone circle games, griffon miniatures or harbinger magazine (who I assume are all the same company/people). You may not work for them any more but that does not mean you do not have a vested interest. At the very least your opinions are based on your friendship with the author rather than on objective truth.

Regardless of how good or poor the magazine is, I fully expect gushing posts from the two of you about how great it is. Remember people - pinch of salt.

I\'m glad I chose to post this anonymously as I guess you would have ostracised me from the community if I used my real login.

I don\'t believe Harbinger is a scam, but based on objective evidence (missed website updates, people not getting replies to their emails, erasing the entire magazine etc.) I have serious doubts about their ability to produce a monthly magazine, and if the magazine folds you have little or no chance of getting your money back.

I am simply advising people that taking a subscription out is a risk. If you take that risk and the magazine folds after 1 or 2 issues then don\'t say me (and the troll, in his own special way) didnt tell you so. Buy it at the newsagent and you do not take that risk.

My point about saving a tree stands. What exactly will this magazine give you that half an hour on CMON won\'t? Since I discovered CMON I havent looked at my old WDs, Golden Demon books etc. - they are dated. CMON is always current, and has work which far surpasses anything I have on paper.

\'Eastenders\' was good tonight!

Apart from taking out a subscription, how does one actually go about supporting this enterprise.

I am so sick:|~ of reading White Dwarf for the rare snippet that actually interests me that I would happily do anything I can for any venture that supports interest in mini painting/collection in the UK.

As a regular WH Smiths haunter, I am constantly gobsmacked by the range of tat they have available. Five! magazines no less for the \'Routing\' enthusiast!!!. For the uninitiated that is a woodworking tool, not dissimilar from a drill!!

Is there room for a mini mag?

You betcha!:bouncy:

Saving trees is a nice sentiment and one not to be undervalued. However, as far as I\'m aware, my PC runs on electricity which is supplied to me by a power station that burns fossil fuels which in turn has a crappy effect on the environment. Your other options are what? nuclear power? Hmm... that tastes nice. Or you may be fortunate enough to live near a wind farm but I would think a minute percentage do (actually Finn.. do you live near the one off the A30?).

Anyway, I intend to buy it (and sell it :D ) (and no, despite the word Valley in my location I have no locality to the Cardiff mafia). If it runs to issue twelve.... cool... if it folds at issue six, then at least someone had the conkers to try and give the painting/gaming community a good independent read.

Warning!!! (suggestion) DO NOT FEED THE TROLL

Yes me old pal, everyone in Cornwall lives near the A30. It\'s the only road we got!!
A30 and dirt tracks...and about 10 million grockles a year. I can\'t get out of my drive at the moment!!

If its not enough that I get mildly ridiculed by friends for playing with toys at my age I now find that another of my hobbies - woodworking - is coming under fire - what is wrong with routing - I buy at least one of those mags each month (depending on browsing content first).:D

I am very interested in the Harbinger mag as I agree with Finn that WD is lacking something now days - I don\'t know what it is but I can\'t get up any enthusiasm for the whole Grey Knight/Inquisitor bit in 40k and lost interst in WH on their last re-issue.

Rackham has taken over (for me) but I can\'t read French so there is very little else to look at.

I am concerned however with the viability of the new mag -as has been mentioned with varying degrees of restraint by others.

I emailed the company a week or so ago to queery the subscription price/figure offer/postage etc as I wanted to place a subscription and have had no reply - like kittykat I think I will wait for it to arrive in Smiths - next to the routing magslollollol

Hey Finn how long have you been in Kernow? - I suspect you\'re an undercover Grockle yourself - the truth will out

Hows the crappy weather down there - don\'t tell me - the sun came out on Sunday!

Gushing indeed...

Look, this is what you said (Devil\'s Advocate)...

\"Please don\'t tar me with the same brush as the troll - I put my points forward in a reasonable manner - I did not deliberately insult anyone and I don\'t believe I said anything untrue.\"

And don\'t tar me me with the same brush as those guys! I\'ll say it again...I USED TO WORK FOR THEM...that leaves no, and I mean no vested interested.

If the mag is shit it\'s shit!

*sorry Chern Ann for swearing*

If it ain\'t it ain\'t. all I am saying to you people is this...it is at the printers and it WILL be printed! How difficult is that to understand?

Now, Mr Advocate, stop making assumptions! The buggers are still to give me my garage back! For those who \'know\' me (and from Devil\'s Advocate he may know me just under a different name (of his own) - don\'t know), my garage is being emptied of all boxes of blister packs and video cases (a nice alternative to blisters) as I\'m moving out of my property to rent it. More on that later).

All minis I painted under the SCG, Griffin banner will of course have an element of bias - it was my job. But that\'s gone now, and I\'ve got better at painting ( i think) - just got to show the minis one day when I get my own digicam (the result will, I hope, be worth it). And from now on in there will be NO advertising for those guys/gals from me. Except for Coat d\'Arms paints - but that\'s different :).

So, back to the beginning...no vested interest. Does that compute?

and why can\'t you be adult about it?

Mr Advocate also wrote...

\"I\'m glad I chose to post this anonymously as I guess you would have ostracised me from the community if I used my real login. \"

WHY????

It\'s easy for me to answer the questions and any familiar poster I\'ll respond to with my own knowledge...don\'t be shy!

Lots of people play Celtos, Void, Confrontation and AD&D (buyers of Reaper), etc. Painter or gamer, we all want to see these mini in a magazine.

If they do it right they will be filling an important gap.

I agree totally with this. It couldn\'t have been said better.

Okay now, that sucks! I was under the impression that the mag came delivered with the freebie. (call me dumb or whatever).
Now I have to send off for it? And most likely pay at least $5 shipping for each model? and probably customs processing fees too.:( Suddenly I\'m not so impressed with my $80 CAN subscription.

Many magazines give away CDs, disks, perfume, feminine pad samples, tissues etc.
Hell,.. White dwarf gave away a free Brettonian or lizardman with their fifth edition WH WD issue way back. So why can\'t it be sent with the mag?

Please give me a good excuse. I need to break it to two friends of mine too.

Sorry just venting... It wasn\'t something I expected.

Anyhooo. I feel it is the time for something like this to come along. There has been much excitement about Harbinger. If it is a scam, they\'d be smarter to just publish it anyway, cause there is a lot more money in making the mag work than sending their title and related partners into the toilet. I do wish they\'d at least send a reply to emails, its almost like dealing with GW!

If it is a scam, shame on me. I guess my money is already wasted. *shrugs* I could have bought lottery tickets or pissed the money down the drain in a drinking binge instead I guess. But maybe I\'ll just give these guys a chance, and take the risk of helping someone enrich the spectrum of the hobby I so very much love.:]

So get stuffed you buggerly trolls!:moon:

Peace!

Grockles? Anything like Emits?

Anyone know about the whole Griffin sci-fi Invid looking minis thing? I want to buy them bad, but are they licensed?

See the whole point of my posts is to get people to look at objective truths rather than the platitudes of insiders.

Rev. From an objective point of view, it is more than possible for you to still have a vested interest. I don\'t work for NatWest any more but I still have a vested interest - a whole load of shares. With a startup company like Harbinger it is even more likely you were given a chance to make a \"ground level\" investment to help get the company going.

I shall make this clear - I am not saying you DO have a vested interest, just that it is possible. If you say you don\'t, then we have to take your word for it - but we have no real way to know. So I take what you say with a pinch of salt. Not utter disbelief, just a pinch of salt.

If it is trolling to caution people about very real risks, then look for me under the bridge. Some of you are happy to take the risk to support a venture you admire, and that is fine. But I suspect a lot of the readers here can\'t afford to be so generous. To those people I say show support when it hits the shelves, but don\'t fork out money in advance for something you may never get.

It will only take one more mistake of the \"wipe the entire file\" variety and they will miss their deadline. The printers and distributors will be annoyed because it disrupts their schedules, and the magazine will be futher delayed whilst they rearrange things. The shops won\'t reserve shelf space for a magazine which doesnt show up regularly. The outgoings still keep going out but money only comes in when the magazine is on the shelves getting sold. This is how magazines go under.

Mr \"computers use electricity\" - does surfing CMON for half an hour use even a fraction of the energy it takes to produce and print a magazine? And distribute it to shops? And fly it to other countries? And deal with the waste when it eventually gets discarded? This is without even considering the actual wood pulp to make the paper.

For what it is worth I hope the magazine succeeds, since it will obviously make people here happy. I just wanted to express my concerns. I don\'t like seeing people ripped off - intentionally or not.

I guess I have said all that needs to be said. Listen to me or not - see if I care. This will be my last post as the Devil\'s Advocate. At least until people need waking up again...

I for one find this insulting - In one breath you \"make it clear\" that you are not accusing Rev of anything and in the next you restate your accusation - reminds me of another poster who upset the apple cart a little while ago.

Why are you posting under another loggin? If as you imply, you are a member of long standing I assume you feel that have some respect from your peers in these forums? - wouldn\'t your argument carry more weight under your own name? - also using your own identity might have caused you to moderate your tone somewhat.

It could be said that you seem to know a lot about the company in question - do you have a vested interest? -ex employee? disgruntled customer? etc. - I could speculate and disguise my speculation as objectivity but lets not retread that route!

I agree with you that the start of any enterprise is fraught with difficulty but harbingers of doom (sorry for the pun) such as yourself will not help if you undermine the good will of the community needed to support it.

We each have to take decisions based on our own experience - mine is to wait for it to hit the high street (although I could still be tempted into an early subscription because I am desperate for an alternative to WD) - I do not seek to influence others in their choice of action.

For the last time...

I HAVE NO VESTED INTEREST IN HARBINGER.

You cannot take that any way other than how it is written. If you saw my bank balance and my current financial standing you\'d probably chuckle - it makes pretty grim reading :).

All in all I go with what you\'re saying Mr D, but I dislike your handling of my scruples :p.

Angela - I\'m not entirely sure of what they\'re doing on the delivery of these minis or if maybe the subscription covers it or what - and they just got back from GenCon yesterday at some point so today they will be back at their \'desks\' so to speak. That\'s all I can add :(.

But I\'ll forward this whole link to them anyway so they can make it their business and correct me on all the mistakes I\'ve made in this Forum topic!

Anyways, I\'m off to burn some trees and buff my scruples lol.

P.S. I find this new ID for being Devil\'s Advocate quite exciting when all is said and done! I just hope you do the same thing for other, more worthy issues like world poverty and guns in America! You want to speak to the heads of the big countries as a masked crusader lol

To say to Reverend, after he told you that he has no vested interest, that you are going to take what he says with a pinch of salt, is unnecessary and rude. He didn\'t ask you if you believed him, and I doubt anyone else cares, so this unpleasant confrontational attitude is stupid and a waste of my time moderating. So, since this isn\'t your \"real\" account, go away.

The folk here are not idiots or children (or should not be, read the TOS), and they\'ll privately make up their own minds on Rev\'s veracity.

I\'ve seen forums that are able to log IP adresses with every post. Isn\'t that possible with this forum? If so, it should be quite easy to track down the real identity of the poster, or simply ban his IP adress...

*Hands over ears, singing*

He said...

\"I never meant to insult Rev - my comments were always from an impartial objective position. I was merely saying that as an ex-employee who admits he still has a garage full of their stock, he is hardly in an unbiased position, so any comments from him about the company or its products cant be considered unbiased - hence the pinch of salt. What exactly is so wrong with that?\"

The \'stock\' is going by Saturday as I\'m moving out - from then on any contact with them will be on a \'how do you do\' basis :).

If I said to you that blackboards are black, would you take that with a pinch of salt? No, because blackboards are black and I\'m not in the habit of lying. therefore, when I say I have no involvement (garage or no garage) I mean it.

Thanks Chern for backing me up - my veracity will, I hope, come to the fore in all my postings :innocent:.

This is turning into a RLobinske all over again lol.
