maybe you should set up your own toll road...

It would be a fine way to finance your ever growing collection!

I don\'t get what\'s so much worse about heat. Cold will kill you just as fast, in the right amounts. And you cannot just keep adding layers of clothes, that\'s a myth perpetrated by the apparel industry. Eventually mobility becomes an issue. Have you ever tried painting with gloves on? I can\'t even tie my shoes with the Isotoner gloves, let alone gloves that actually keep your hands warm. I feel like a 2 year old.

Perhaps you folks just don\'t know how to get cool. In the summer if it gets hot you shed a layer. Then you are down to you undies. If the heat necessitates, you lose those too. And if you\'re still too hot God has given us water for to swim in. Ah, it\'s like water! And if you haven\'t got any water about, your body will make it for you in the form of sweat.

See, your body is prepared to be in the heat. It makes sweat to cool you off. Your body is not prepared to be in the cold. When you get cold your body shivers. Shivering increases the heat in your body by burning more calories. And what does that do? It melts away the very fat that is supposed to protect you from the cold. See? Our bodies are stupid about cold.

Your body wants you to live in the heat. So EVERYBODY, come live in Georgia where our temperature rarely gets below 0 degrees Celcius. Where the humidity is routinely above 90%. Sure we have tornados. And frequent flooding. And now, it would seem tropical storms and hurricanes. And it\'s true we had a 4.0 earthquake last year. And, inspite of the fact that it rains almost twice as much in Atlanta as London, we still suffer from drought almost constantly. And the drought causes quite a few forest fires. And yes, we have West Nile carrying mosquitoes year round. And last summer there was a small outbreak of rabbies. And lightning is a bit of a problem. Not to mention gangs. And the traffic is out of hand.

Ok, so perhaps Georgia is an aquired taste. But, it isn\'t cold. Usually.

You must be retired, because I can\'t imagine what\'d happen if I came to work in undies. Or rather, I can, but I don\'t like it. Also, the closest swimming pool is a public one, filled with incontinent kids on holidays and their ugly mothers who can\'t be bothered to do anything about their bloody SCREAMING. In unison.

Gimme some snow, and a warm coat. Please ?

for swimming... 80f (26c?) or higher

for doing ANYTHING else outside, 60-65f (10c?) and a good stiff wind is a plus. wouldn\'t give up wisconsin weather for anything, it can be 60f+ on Christmas and still have snowstorms late april.

\'course I didn\'t mind the heat too much when i was skinny

Barkel, we have seasons too. Tourist, rainy and snowbird.

Why do they call it tourist season when we cann\'t shoot them?

???

I thought you could shoot them. You just have to tag them, dress them, and use every part of them. Remember, it is against federal law to sell the bones of an American citizen. So be sure they are a foreigner before you do this. The kidneys, liver, heart, eyes, lungs, et cetera, are fair game.

Female French painter? There is Marion. She asked about other female french painters in the French thread.

As to weather here: absolutely great. 27C day, 12C night, lightly clouded and a nice breeze. It will be rain and thunder again in a couple of days though.

@sin3br, are you in the area of Finland where you have weeks without any sunlight during winter? I\'ve got a friend in Vasa who described this and it still feels hard to imagine.

I was trying to paint yesterday, and it was so hot that I would put paint on the pallette, add extender, put two strokes on, and it would be dry on the palette.

I tried working on the prep for another commission, but the glue would dry before I could press the two pieces together.

I understand hot weather has its place in the ecosystem, but for the life of me, I can\'t figure out why.

I grew up in Oklahoma where we used to say it isn\'t really hot unless it\'s over 100 F (38 C for you Europeans).
Hottest I remember is 112. Worst combo I remember is 108 + 88% humidity.
When John C. Fremont explored Oklahoma looking for the source of the Canadian river he wrote back to Washington: \"Civilized man will never live here.\"

---Was he wrong? I\'ve never been to Oklahoma, but I\'ve seen the musical. Completely uncivilized.

Vince, I too grew up on OK. Remember August being 16 straight days over 110, with lows at night of 90+.

But I also remember being in Dalas at 10 degrees with a 20 mph north wind one morning and them asking me where I wanted to relocate to: Orlando or Salt Lake. Thus I live in the land of mouse.

Barkel, the quote is:

\"I\'ve never been to Heaven, but I\'ve been to Oklahoma. They tell me I was born there, but I really don\'t remember.\"

Or maybe this should be on the \"old\" thread?

Frenchkid, that\'s 109 and 5 respectively, we\'ll let you into the club with those numbers. I\'ve seen them both growing up in Oklahoma.

The sad part is that at either time, the next day could be a nice 70 day.
