Things that bothered me about German GD...
1: The judges understanding of GD quality... 2002, they only gave out the Gold in the 40K Vehicle/Monster category, saying there just weren\'t any more entries of Golden Demon standard... Well, imho there were plenty, but why then give the gold to a shabby and poorly done (but converted...) Genestealer-Cult-Magos?
This year, the 40K unit cat\'s display was funny to look at: A squad of beautiful Fire dragons (not converted), and one of Thousand Sons CSM (converted), both easily a CMON 8, stood right beside a squad of Plague marines (not converted, but heavily drybrushed), which I wouldn\'t score higher than a 6 here... now guess who got to be a finalist... At least it didn\'t fetch a Demon... or else...:flame:
2: Allocation of the Categories... In the Open Category, there were some really neat stuff... A couple of guys did two titans clenched in a fight... really great stuff and both 3-4 feet hight... lots of detail... the same guys (I believe) did a large-scale Land Raider (about 3 feet long), which could actually drive by RC; and lots of other stuff... well, here two of the winners in the Open:

Apart from the base, why would this mini go to open category (no, not because the Fantasy single mini is too hard a category...noooo...)?
and this one:

Why, oh why, open category? Especially as the all-known mounted Lord of Nurgle got a Demon in the Fantasy Monster/Warmachine category?
3. (point of lots of argumentation over here

The French invasion... Lots of German GD attenders went bananas over the fact that 4 Demons (and the Slayer Sword) were dusted by French... Popular argument: \"They got a GD over in France, why don\'t they participate there?\" Well, the answer is that French GD offers a hell of a tougher competition - it\'s just easier for a French painter to get an award over in Germany... ok, their minis were really great (especially the Slayer Sword entry... duh), but people still find it a bit questionable...
I will just stop the rant here. Suffice to say that GD lost it charm over me. And as I don\'t need to go for other reasons (eg ForgeWorld retail), I think I\'ll just send my next year entry along with a friend (if I get the time to get anything done, that is...), \'cause paying 15 euro for a show of bad judgement is a wee bit too much...
*bad! bad gbh! no rant i said! bad!*
