hmmm I should try something like that! I\'ve been wracking my brain about what to do for bases that would be different from the norm . . . freehanding a floor would be cool. Especially with a big ol\' design on it.
So, I\'m looking at some of Alexi Z\'s other bases, and it looks like the designs are not actually painted right on the base, but rather onto a piece of plasticard that is then attached to the top of the base, is that right?
New semi-attached question... what is the best way to cut material (like plasticard above) to perfectly fit the diameter of the top of a base, or the insert of a base for rounds like Dark Age?

I\'ve realized that most of the painted bases i\'ve seen and thought must be digital images or something were done by Eric J. As it turns out I\'ve been looking at one person\'s work who is an amazing talent and does an incredible job...
While I\'m enveous, it is somewhat of a relief. :wow:

to cut the circles in plasticard get your self one of these....

That\'s a cheapy version and works well for thin pieces....
Alternatively Sand the base smooth......
As Dragon forge says use paints more like watercolours...and as GP says practise practise practise....
Eric\'s are awesome ..This is my favourite recent one...The wood just looks so real it\'s scary....

Awww yes the cumpas cutter... I think I can make that work for my own devilish plans.
@demonherald: Yes, that base on Bubba is amazing. I remember when I first saw it, I was totally blown away.
@airhead, yes also a favorite there. It\'s great seeing all different levels of difficulty being attempted here. I can see now how this sort of thing is possible. Some of Alexi Z\'s bases are painted and relativly simple (simple for her skill mind you) and seem attainable., whereas Eric J\'s are all photo quality. Great stuff.

I think it\'s generally agreed that Eric takes a pic of his mini and then paints over it. I believe he said as much on this forum once. Still good stuff though.
