Illegal painting book at Ebay

I have in the past Sonnyslayer, mainly cause the computer is not located where my painting desk is and its also easier to have something in front of you on paper than scroll through computer screens. I know when I get around to writing one I will have no problem with people printing for personal use but will be aggrivated if selling my donated work for a profit.

I have done this without the individual authors consent however. But to be honest the reason they write tutorials is to help people paint so if they have a problem with me printing it off for ease of reference then they shouldnt write it in the first place. After all, the tutioial is no help whatsoever on my P.c upstairs when my paints are downstairs!

Sonny you can print out the lot and put em in a book. The problem comes when you try to sell other peoples articles.

He didn\'t even do a good job of formatting the ebook. It\'s pretty messy (downloaded a copy from the link in the list here) to have a peek.

Least he\'s gone for now, though by my count he did sell 6 copies (I\'m guessing 99 was the highest number of items you could have in a single listing), meaning he made 30 pounds.

Yep it was the same garbage \'Editing\' that he did the first time. Took out the article author reference and left the text.

Erm No. :D
Since I got in contact with all of his purchasers, I\'ve had responses from them. It would appear that since I\'ve given them a \"Heads Up\" on the illegality of this, only the first 3 have actually parted with any cash.
And it also appears that Ebay are the one\'s who pulled the auction, so young \'Fellow-me-lad\' may have a bit of trouble coming his way.

So Sorry for him,................ NOT!

Please give me his user name. Last time he did it (under the name of kyoto-kuris with nearly 300 positive feedback) I put him as my home page and every time I started up the browser I reported his new auctions to ebay. Every single one got pulled. I must have cost him a fortune considering he mainly sold electronics for several 100 bucks. I was such an a-hole he unregistered his user name.
So if you give me the new one, he won\'t be having any more fun ebay. Again.

Mind if I think out loud?

I might have some ideas that could help CMON in the future with thefts like these. Obviously there are a few of us that want to improve our hobby, even to the extent of buying eBooks on eBay. And I know we all print and article or two for reference puposes.
These are just ideas, so by all means put holes in them or exand on them.
  1. Create your own eBook, downloadable for the membership fee
  2. Make it a nice, clean printable version
  3. Tag it so it can\'t be shared after download (or sold on eBay!)

Crazy? Maybe, but it might generate enough revenue to help keep the website going, perhaps to the extent that ads go away entirely. Obviously someone could crack it, but you are in a much better position to protect it if they do.

Make it a contest. Members vote on the articles that are their favorites/most helpful and those go into the eBook. Update it quarterly with new articles.

As far as eBay, coolmini needs to start thinking about building their own auction site imho.

The above does sound like a good idea though, selling a book of cmon info. and it could subsidize the adverts,
lol

Remember, the same articles are still free. You are merely paying for the convenience of a clean printable version. It might mean that some contributers take some extra/better pics, or even refine articles.

Additionally you could add editorials, stories, wargame info, upcoming events, contests, pics, stories from events (reports) with shots of winners, etc., etc., etc. Sky\'s the limit.
Basically a Cool Mini or Not quarterly eZine.
Things like this can oftentimes become true glossy rags like White Dwarf if popularity grows. Then you\'re actually able to pay contributers.
I\'m getting way ahead of myself, but that\'s just the way I am. Been in too many brainstorm sessions as a designer/marketer

I have always been in favour of cmon putting out a book and they have put out the annuals with the top 10 etc (Hmm what ever happened to 2005 annual) but it would require getting permission of all the people who have posted articles and then someone has to put it together.

So unless we have a volenteer and some legal people to cover the hairy bits then the point is moot. Justy in case I give blanket permission for CMON to use any of my pics and articles for the support of CMON.

True if you submitted article to the mag then you have already given permission. I was talking about all the article that have been posted in the articles section.

Well, any articles written for the web site would not be printable for resale without the writers permission. Gets to be a bit of sticky business to just take them and sell them, even for CMoN. I havn\'t seen anywhere where there is a waiver for removing rights to information so it could be resold by CMoN or anyone else.

It would also put a bit of a damper on things I suspect. Not that I\'ve written any articles (though I have a few in mind I might write up) I, for one (and I\'m sure there are more), wouldn\'t provide free articles for someone else to resell but am more than happy to do what I can for free as long as noone else is making money from my efforts.

The TOS of CMON specifically leaves the rights with the individual authors, the same goes for pictures. It\'s been that way since 2001.
