Illegal painting book at Ebay

*sigh*

I doubt you would have many people complain about their intellectual rights being stolen if CMoN made a print version of the same articles that are found freely here. The only catch would be that the link to the print version would only be available to supporters. That\'s all. Think of \'the money that\'s being made\' as a mere penny on the dollar per supporter to offset the time it would take for someone to format the print version.

It\'s really not complicated. :bouncy:

I think you are getting a little caught up in trivialities. No own CMON compilation of articles can stop the sale of this \"painting guide\" because people don\'t actually know that they are buying the CMON articles. The articles are already available for free, having them available for free AND as a \"special version\" for subscribers would not change a thing.

Wouldn\'t it be possible to put together a full compilation of the articles on CMON, and offer it on ebay as say \"Ultimate Painters Guide by members of CMON\"

Obviously giving full credit to all authors as well as advertising the site. I know I would like to have all the articles in a nice easily readable format, and I would happily pay 5 dollars or so for it. Now, this money could either come back to CMON - which would probably be preferable, or go to some CMON related charity such as Works of Heart.

The biggest problem I see with this idiot is that as long as he has a backup of \"his\" work, he is going to continue to pop up every few months.

At Hoblit\'s suggestion, I\'ve sent out an email to all article writers seeking permission for use in a CMON version of the ebook. If people come forward then we could put something together, CMON already owns rights on some articles that we published in the previous annual (and will be publishing in the upcoming one) so there\'s already a core there that can be offered online.

Am I missing something here?

Why not just put a copy of HIS work (the editted and compiled version) here on CMON for download? It\'s not like he can come after US for copyright infingment.

Or am I wrong about that?

I also know that most members here are also members on other mini sites, so once the download is available members can post on those sites about the FREE E-book. That may not generate much revenue directly, but it could bring new members into the fold which WILL make the site itself more profitable to the powers that be. It will also spread the word of this E-book, reducing the chances of the guy making any future profits from this sort of thing

Very Simple answer Mark; He\'s removed all references to the original authors. The \'editing\' is absolutley crap and he\'s duplicated pages and articles without really looking at the work.
In his original apology (See the first instance of this rip off) he claimed to have spellchecked the articles.....Bollocks!

The website www.tokyo-underground.co.uk proportedly sells PC\'s and other electronic stuff.
There is a Contact us link which lists his telephone number (044) 07947 729525 and an Email Address Kurisu@tokyo-underground.co.uk.

Please feel free to investigate.

Fair enough, then

How about this? Someone tell me where I can obtain a copy of HIS work, and I WILL RE-edit HIS work, spell check, and credit ALL Authors AND CMON, then upload it to Chern or whoever is responsible for that sort of thing. It might be a good idea to put it in the CMON shop as a FREE download, which means people would have to link to there to get it, and then more people would know about the shop.

It would almost be like pimping our shop on other sites, so we can turn the tables on this guy and use him to benefit us.

I\'m willing to do this because -

a. I currently have no life and have all the time in the world, and
b. By re-editting HIS work rather then starting fresh would both \'get back\' at him AND be much easier then starting from scratch.

Mark:
Chern Ann is currently working towards that end. You might want to contact him direct and offer your services.

I noticed the auction is pulled.
It would appear that the download is \"pulled\" as well.
I Wonder Why? Can\'t be anything I\'ve done, can it? :innocent:

I dunno Mike. I downloaded it (er stole it if you will) just to verify my stuff was in there.

It is disorganized and generally crappy. A new version (kudos to Chern and whomever may help) would be a really cool idea. They are free here of course, but a reworked compendium would be nice.

It is disorganized and generally crappy. You\'re not kidding. Seen some recent pupil work that makes this \"editing\" look like toilet paper.

Markus, you can\'t re-edit/copy his work without infringing his copyright. Even collating/editing something creates a new derivative work. Of course since he has no license to use his source material, he can\'t distribute his work either.

Gareth (Hoblit) has volunteered to put something together and I have a list of authors who have so far replied with permission. If you\'d like to give it a go or split the load between the both of you, please let me know.

I had a look at his stuff and the editing is terrible, there\'s no coherent format to the work and no layout.

Also, unless you are going to look through the whole thing there is no way to find a specific article. It\'s bad. Far better to just start from scratch.

That being said I have already begun on the articles which we have permission for. If anyone wants to help just drop me a PM and I am sure we can split the workload somewhat. This would be appreciated as there are a large number of articles on the site. (231 and increasing)

I have a few ideas floating around for the final compilation as putting all the articles into one big file may get a little large, but this is details.

Martyn (war Griffon) is out on HMS Nottingham ATM, but I managed to contact him and he has granted us permission to use his article.

I have not received a mail. My article may be short and not really that useful, but if you want to, I would have no problem with it being part of the compilation.
