Well concerning the color of the weapons I´d choose red, really dark but still red - it will make the weapons stand out, I mean in 40K stuff should be a bit more flashy, and those huge weapons really need some strong colors. i made the weapons on my ultramarines red, although they´re supposed to be grey in the current UM version.

Devastator servo skull you say... interesting idea. It\'s still a tiny bit big but it\'s by far the closest thing so far. I might have to hack one up to see exactly how close it is, because it\'d be a ton easier than any other option I\'ve found so far.

Back on the subject of the weapons, I still don\'t know what would look better. A weathered metallic boltgun is usually in style and it would make them look a lot more like on the artwork... ugh I\'ll figure it out eventually I guess

Huzzah, finally got a halo that works! I dug out one of my many dozens of Inquisitor bitz and cut up a necklace bit for the halo. It involved a lot of clipping, trimming and filing to get it right, but in the end it was thin enough that I could bend it to get the exact width I needed. Attached is a pic of what should be the final conversion (unless I do anything to the cape on his back, I might add an icon hanging from a bit of rope there to break up the big flat area) and one of the doubles of the sigil sprue that I used.

Getting this uploaded was a huge pain in the arse, my mouse battery is dead and it\'s been recharging the whole time, so I had to find ways to import the photo, do all the Photoshop editing, upload it with Frontpage to my ftp server, and then navigate these forums purely by keyboard. Really fun when you have to tab your way through a million links to get to the reply button every time

Anyway I hope you like him, I plan to get an hour or two of painting in this afternoon and maybe some more when I get back home, but I doubt it. Have to do some homework eventually... before the deadlines is always a plus!

Anyway I painted the bases again and did a little bit of touchup work on the Chaplain. Here\'s some pics:

One of those gives you a bit of a look at his base, there\'s a skeleton guy in that cubbyhole looking thing from the Cityfight base set. Hard to see from the normal angle shots.

And here\'s the Master with the updated base, I like it a bit more so I\'m happy

Very cool bases. It always pays to put a little extra effort into the bases, they can really improve the looks of a model. I\'m glad to see you\'ve got a halo on the crozius now. It fits very nicely too.
You wouldnt happen to not be using the heavy bolters from your devastator boxes would you? lol

I probably will be I\'m afraid, I\'m in love with the things and I have about a million uses in mind for the plastic ones. I have 5 metal ones too, and somehow that still isn\'t enough to go around between all the projects I have going all the time

I think my Ravenguard need one or two more, and the army list I came up with for 1700 pts of Pre-Heresy Emperor\'s Children had six of them (seems fitting now that I think about it). My Scout squads\' plastic heavy bolters will probably go to my Imperial Guard, because carving up metal ones to be hand-held by Kasrkin is no fun at all I tell ya... getting the grenade launcher off the one-piece model is hard enough let alone removing all the junk from a metal one to add on later!

Anyway, I\'m trying to find a sword that would fit on the hip of the Master so I can count him as Azrael. The one I have in mind is from Marneus Calgar, but the pommel/hilt is all wrong and none of the new DA plastics have big enough parts to fix it. That would probably mean awkward carving up of some spare bits of plastic, hooray

What about this chaos sword from the fantasy knights on foot? Clearly you\'d need to do a little work to it to dechaosify it, but I\'m sure Tom has a got at least one of these (he\'s got a couple unopened boxes of nights doesnt he?).

Yeah he\'s got no shortage of Chaos bits I\'ll think about it and see what I come up with. This also means I have to cut/grind/file off the DA icon from his banner and sculpt/paint on the classic design from the Codex. I am really making things complicated aren\'t I?

I\'ve already sculpted fire on the skull on his bannerpole to match a painting from the book. My first attempt at sculpting fire it turned out rather well given my horrible lack of experience with such things.

Ugh.

Had a rough week, tons of stress, tons of headaches (kept me away from class and kept me from sleeping properly at night), and unfortunately the only painting I got done all week was when I was way too stressed out to be productive in any other way.

So in other words, I did a horrible job of everything I tried to do the last couple of days and put some serious doubts in my head about whether or not I can paint reds anymore.

I hate to admit it, but I might have to just block it all out and start over. Lucky me I thin my paints pretty good so there won\'t be any details obscured...

Sorry for the lack of updates, I\'ll just say it again and try to leave all the stress behind.

Am My basic question here is how did you managed to get the undercoat so smooth ?

The primer coat you mean? I dunno in 9 years I have yet to find a reliable method of avoiding the dreaded rough texture. Washing the sprues doesn\'t always work, being super careful about dust and relative humidity doesn\'t always work...

Basically I just spray it from about 12\" away and hope for the best. I wish I could be more helpful but honestly I get burned every couple of months like pretty much every other user of Citadel spray, even with a can of primer that\'s never caused problems before.

If you\'re referring to the first color that goes on over black, the only real trick is to do two/three relatively thin coats instead of lumping on a thick one. I don\'t thin my paints quite as much as some people on here claim to (10% paint 90% water I\'ve heard a lot, but I think that\'s totally unnecessary).

I just noticed that I never answered Silax\'s question from ages ago! Sorry buddy!

The bone-white cloak was done with a basecoat of Graveyard Earth. I mixed in Bleached Bone for hilights, and after that a bit of white for a few edges/folds. The shading was done with a mix of Graveyard Earth and Scorched Brown, watered down and built up as washes in the deepest of folds.

im only joking jericho, im not discouraged really! my pre heresy world eater are going to be my \"showcase army\" e.g every model painted to my highest standard! any way, grats on finding a halo, but there are some more on his backpack vents

Glad to hear you\'re just kidding man, pre-Heresy projects are supercool but take a ton of work. I\'m planning one for later on and it\'s a huge headache trying to line up all the old-looking parts

Interesting day today, had a good morning with a friend, read a decent amount of Restaurant at the End of the Universe, saw 300 (actually the most forgettable part of the day...) and built my first Ravenwing biker.

A couple of annoying little bits of custom work on there, bonus point to the person who can figure it all out first

I also managed to cut myself on like the second last cut of the damn conversion process. Blade slipped when cleaning one of the boltguns... so close to finishing a model without any bloodshed!

I agree they seem to draw your eye away from the rest of the mini. How about attaching the to the front fender....where the ravenwing symbols are?
