I used Cyril\'s technique. I do a scratch with black ink mixed with Dark Flesh first (he uses regular black, but I like how the ink helps the paint flow easier without watering it down). Then I do a quick line of pure white on the underside of the scratch, and a thin line of black ink above the scratch. Pretty simple, any really large chips can get a bit of watery dark flesh blended in the middle if you want.

I updated the above picture to have the retouched face, you might have to refresh or ctrl+F5 to force it to reload the image.

Beautiful. I\'ve really enjoyed this WIP.

For me the face especially the mouth could have a bit more shading, but that\'s a personal preference.

I look forward to the next WIP.

Hey everyone, been a week or so since I picked up a brush (except for cleaning my desk, which doesn\'t count) :)

Anyway I did some more fiddling with Celeborn tonight, he\'s coming along nicely. Again I\'m glad I didn\'t rush him for Games Day, the winners were amazing in this category and one of them was the exact model I\'m painting lol

So I\'ve played around with a few things here. White primer again, very different from what I\'m used to but I think it\'s definitely a viable option for Fantasy figs (if not 40k). Another thing has been the \"juices\" that some of the French painters use. There are a few on the cloth, once again very different from what I normally do but I like the effect it can have linking together areas of different color or simply tinting the area itself.

Don\'t even ask about the skin. Horrible experiment gone awry, no more mixing proven techniques and producing these horrible zombie hybrids as a result. Remember that scene in Alien Resurrection with all the messed up Ripley clones? That\'s what I think of when I look at this skin color :p

Anyway... some advice on a skin tone that would work for this guy would be appreciated :D Hair too, since I\'ve never painted realistic dirty blond/grey hair before. Thanks!

Very nice work so far Dan. The only thing I would suggest would be a little bit more contrast on the face as it looks pretty plain right now. The robes are magnificent, all of it, but I also think a it of shading where the hands meet the robes should have a darker shade so they dont dissapear. other than that, can\'t wait for it to be finished! Congrats on your Bronze with that scout again brother! -Mike-

Anyway the skintones are liable to change completely, I completely screwed up the face the first time, and kept painting for some reason instead of stopping and starting over. There\'s a good amount of touchup to do here and there (assuming I can remember the mixes I was using on the guy... almost every single one of them is new to me!) and there will definitely be some borders between colors that get some attention.

Anyway I\'m starting to think that doing the hair based around Khaki or Graveyard Earth will be the way to go, possibly just shaded with black and hilighted with white. Plus whatever juices I feel are necessary after that :D

Just a quick note before I get back to the Uni homework:

I had a frustrating summer tearing up my shoulder twice at work, so I barely had a chance to pick up a brush at all during July/August. Finally feeling a lot better lately now that I\'m at school and only working 1 shift a week so I\'ll be busting out the paints on a more frequent basis.

I\'ll continue to use this thread, even if my projects have nothing at all to do with DA\'s. I swear I\'ll get to them eventually, but I really should worry about polishing off some nearly finished models from my various armies and then maybe move on to something incredibly foolish like buying about 125 more Marine models when Apocalypse comes out.

Oh, and I bought the entire P3 paint range the other day. Holy crap are they cool colors, and cheap too! $3 a pot and there\'s 6mL more than GW\'s paint. Can\'t wait to fool around with them a bit soon.

***you are going to hate the fact you bought their metallics....they are crap(unless recently fixed?)

but great colours for sure, i love them

as to the lotr model, its lookin good, the only part finished is the blue sash right?, it looks very nice

the green robe will need brighter and dark layers, and the face needs some tones and shading (green, blue, yellow, purple, red, orange, brown, whichever ones you choose!)

The skin on Celeborn is gonna be completely redone, and the other areas still can use some more tweaking for sure. Once I get the skin and hair \"finished\" then I\'ll worry a bit more about polishing off the robes.

The sash and necklace I was really happy with though :D

I\'ve never heard anything bad about the P3 metallics before, but of course GW\'s supposed to have the best metallics out there so I\'m not expecting to be blown away by their quality... I just like the greenish gold colors quite a bit.

I\'m not worried about having blown any money on the metallics because a) I didn\'t have to buy the inks and b) the store I bought them from had them for $3 Canadian, less my 5% discount. That\'s not bad since they\'d be $3US + shipping and all that garbage if I got them online, or at least $3.50-4.00 if I bought them elsewhere in town.

OK I\'m starting to worry about the metallics now... are they really *that* bad? I haven\'t broken the seal so I might be able to take the unnecessary ones back... ie. the ones with Citadel equivalents. I\'ll be keeping the green ones and perhaps the platinum.

I havent used a great amount of P3 meatalics but I agree with the Blighted Gold comment and I also found Pig Iron to be good.
I\'d go as far as saying Blighted gold has almost got to top of my list for making a nice deep and regal gold, still need to play around with it a bit more but I am impressed!!!

Very nice stuff Jericho!!

What I can suggest for Dark Angels if you want \'em really dark... do them black, and then just highlight them with Dark Angels Green and a bit of Snot Green on the Edges... then they really look dark and mysterious ;)

But anyway your DAs look awesome - nice work - more pics please ^^

I might post some more pics of him when I get some more work done... like I said I got next to no painting done for about 2 months because of my shoulder. The day to day stuff is vastly better but the problem is still there and it\'s liable to get messed up again until I can get some more physiotherapy into my schedule. Ugh :p

Anyway I should be able to get some stuff done this week, and in 2 weeks I won\'t be working 10 hour shifts on Saturdays so that should free up some more time for painting.

I\'ve got a couple commissions that are like 95% done, and have been since my shoulder problems started, they should really get done first. After that I\'ll probably continue to bounce around between projects, including some DA models in progress and a Fallen Angel I am almost done converting. Just need some more greenstuff and then settle the base and he\'s good for paint.

The concept is taken from an epic poem called Et Nox Facta Est (And Then There Was Night) by Victor Hugo, it\'s about the fall of Satan (very appropriate I think). There will be a little mural on the blank shoulder pad taken more specifically from the poem, with the Dark Angel robed figure surrounded by fire and with leathery wings instead of feathered ones. Should be hard, but cool I think :D

You can\'t see too well from the picture, but he\'s in fact holding one of the Dark Angels Heavenfall style blades, just to complete the theme :innocent:
