I\'m not sure if I want to bring it \"to life\" or not, it\'s pretty beaten and tattered. Might stick to the duller colors for hilights... might do some more shading in places as well. Looks a bit brighter than I was going for in a few areas. Might have more progress shots soon

Re: the fate of the Dark Angels, pretty much everything I was doing at the start of the summer got sidetracked by my shoulder problems. I still want to do Dark Angels (Deathwing and Ravenwing for gaming, plus a few characters) but when I do them is still up in the air. Possibly in between other projects I\'ll do a squad of DA here and there... I dunno they just aren\'t quite as high on the priority list as they once were.

<edit> Did a little bit of glazing with Sanguine Base on the cloak, keeping it super thin. Interesting look </edit>

OK. Possible incoming rant.

What the hell is up with the bolter-melta on this guy? It\'s got the big melta barrel on top. That\'s fine. Then there\'s the little bolter barrel underneath on the inside. That\'s cool too. However... the gun has two strands of ammo chains hanging from the bottom, AND a top-loading sickle magazine ???

What the heck is that all about I just clipped off yet more spikes from the gun and painted most of it, and only now do I realize how ridiculous the design is. I really should clip off either the chains of bolter shells or the clip, but I really don\'t think this should be necessary lol

That\'s one way to describe it I guess Anyway I\'ll show off a quick pic, the cloak hasn\'t been hilighted yet but it shows off the red glazes a bit. I\'ve also chopped up the gun quite a bit by now, it\'s no longer got the spikes on top nor the sickle mag. It would\'ve thrown off the balance of the arm too much if I cut off the ammo chains.

More building than painting going on these days, and I\'ve been reminded that any time you have to do something 50 or so times it gets very very boring

Anyway I\'ve been building lots of Marines for Apocalypse type armies, and trying out a new assembly line kind of method to trick myself into wanting to paint. Currently I have 15 scenic bases done up with a mix of running and standing legs, most of them turning out better than I thought they would. Even hacked up a set of legs to make two unique poses out of the command squad kneeling legs. The combination of bits, cork, plasticard and running legs should make these Marines look a lot larger than most, even without converting the models themselves.

Update on the Fallen Angel!

The tabards are \"done\" but I might re-blend the forehead part of the hood. It\'s a bit too dark. I was experimenting with blending using the Foundation paints to see if it\'s as hard as people say... and yeah they are a pain.

The more you thin them down, the darker they look on the pallete. If you stir it up it\'s fine, and they usually go on the model correctly once it dries, but it\'s really hard to judge if it\'s too bright or too dark a mixture. Probably won\'t do this again if I can help it.

The cloak\'s also done, I had about 5 P3 colors I wanted to try for the green, and instead of making a rational decision I chose to blend the Gnarls Green up to Traitor Green simply because of the name. I really like the color in the end, though!

Also note: The fur on this guy is miserable to paint. You can\'t leave it drybrushed, you can\'t just paint each strand as a single strand of paint, so you have to paint a V shaped set of hilights on every damn hair. At least 3 colors needed for it to look smooth. The part on the left is \"finished\" but I might go and add one more hilight to some of them to accentuate the curves of the fur trim. The other two tufts obviously need the last hilight(s) still.

Thanks man Any ideas how I should paint the arrows and spikes on the tabard? I can\'t really do them gold, but I\'m not sure if they should be copper or something else entirely. I had a feeling that would cause me problems in the end

Hey Jerico.
This is looking great. I seriously like the OSL on the base of the rock, It\'s sweet. The metals also look good, I think you\'re going the right way with the copper on the arrows.
Only thing that looks out of place to me so far is the grey black blending on the underside of the torso armour, it doesn\'t look right.
Next update pls.

I know, I\'m not totally sold on the torso armor either. It sucks when you have semi-directional lighting on a model and then run into a spot where your two fake light sources overlap. Then what

Anyway my photo setup is pretty simple. I have three swing-arm fluorescent lamps on my desk, two on the left and one on the right. For painting I have both raised up high, one on either side.

For photos I position one on the front-left, one front-right, and one over top of the mini to eliminate as many shadows as possible. Lately I don\'t even use my tripod. Shutter speeds are crazy fast because I\'m not diffusing the light at all.

For camera settings I crank the aperature open as much as possible and use the little light meter graph function to pick the exposure. +0.3 is usually what it ends up being.

Mine is a Nikon P3 camera, but those last 2 pics were taken with the only camera that had a charged battery at the time, my sister\'s boyfriend\'s Sony thingy. Couldn\'t find the aperature settings so it had crappier depth of field than usual
