if you think your job is boring and thankless you want to try my job, never boring always thankless and often done in a force ten gale Oh the joys of being at sea, bounced around when you least expect it and then the fun starts when they think a few thousand tons of destoyer can handle like a speed boat, one minute your dinner or coffee is in front of you the next, the person opposite you is wearing it lol

He had a pile of money on the desk he had forgot to put away, and it all shot across the room like bullets!
Also they had a TV room with a huge plasma TV on the wall, and that ripped straight off and ended up on the other side of the room!

Yep that happens although makers trials are tame compared to what we do to the ship once it is in our hands
Makers trials are a week of setting the engines etc to work and basic safety to satisfy the company and Lloyds for the sea safetey certificate when the RN actually take the ship and crew it up fully then the real trials start.
If your father went on one of the Type 23 frigates I bet he never saw the gun and silo go under water into the waves or witness the damn things cork screwing add to that when the weather is really rough and they start to cork screw they also twist in the middle you can stand in the passage way and actually see the two halves twisting

Meh - Real fun is flying in a Helocopter that is leaking Hydraulic Fluid all over you - and this is a good thing because it means that there is still enough Hydraulic Fluid in the system.
No Shyte - if it aint leaking Hydraulic fluid the crew wont fly em.lol
Edit - Oh, forgot to mention that the basic airframe is probably older than the guy flying it.

He he we have them as well the Lynx has been modified that much now we have to sail into the wind at a set speed in order for the damn thing to get off the deck it is now that heavy and yest I agree most are now older than the aircrew lol

LOL nice responses to my last, but actually I\'m a lab technician... no contact with animals at all lol That was a \"Clerks\" quote for those who didn\'t recognize it.
But the job does exist. A friend of mine in the vet college knows a woman who has to do that regularly for pig breeding (though for the pig I guess)

Reverand it sounds like you have one of the better aspects of the job.
I have to deal with the whole damn process onboard as a side line of the job
Great when it works properly but the minute you get visitors onboard or some numpty flushes something they are not surposed to it can be a real pain and everybody tells me I stink??? can\'t imagine why... (well OK I can) the smell klings to you, your skin clothes everything including the tools you are using.
I have found apples, oranges, zipo lighters, underwear and even a mobile phone in the system...god help them when I get a name on an item or catch them putting things down there that they are not surposed to, after a couple of hours cleaning the plant out they don\'t do it again

Given the way my connection has been acting up that could be a very valid point to add to the list NSA
I have another of them \"paper pushing\" jobs. Marketing Director at a Finance Firm specializing in Hedge Funds and Recently Healtcare savings (thanks Bush for that headache!).
On top of that I own my own graphic design company which designs exclusively for print media, which is rare, since in this silicon valley, it seems everyone is an out of work web designer, but for the most part people have forgotten how to design for print...which makes it a nice little niche I\'ve settled in
Together it\'s basically 2 full time jobs, and about 70 hours a week. On the bright side however, they pay me enough that I don\'t have to worry about my miniature hobby being too expensive, or needing to worry about selling minis to pay for it. Which is nice because it means I\'ve been able to keep my hobby my hobby and not mix it, or turn it into work

Iv\'e been on a frigate once during a fire test exersize, (not one of my projects but I went anyway) Those AA guns are hella fast! they were tracking harriers nooo problem...that was cool! :]

One of my friends lives near a mile or two away from a marsh by an airforce base, the airfoce will occasionally do practice menuevers over the marsh, last year, a harrier went into the swamp. The pillot survived without a scratch almost. The explanation for the whole thing: the pilot had a drink or two for the road. Speaking of military aircrafts, for some reason, apache(sp?) helicopters keep passing over my house ???

We normally do AAW exercise withjest faster than the harrier the Phalanx/goalkeeper are a last resort incase the ops room boys/girls get it wrong and fail to take them out with the long range stuff, most things stop when hit with 5000 rounds per minute of 20mm steel/lead
Last year we were with the French carrier and took them out each time once we discovered they do things slightly differently - they were getting very stropy because they were being locked up all the time
