Fighting a battle in distant space where manuevers are made by the light year is pretty far out there.

And I have to admit I was a bit confused by the passage of time. Not so much in the story, but just overall. Relativity is a hard thing to wrap my noggin around.

Any other sci-fi books recommendations?

I just listened to \'Foundation\' by Isaac Asimov (i had a long car drive)....another very interesting story.

Yep i found understanding the whole relativity thing a bit mind bending, even the aging thing. I ain\'t finished it yet, but im on the last stretch and should have it done in a couple of days.

For other sci-fi, im just going to pimp Iain M Banks again, his stuff really is great.

Actually, now I come to think of it, you don\'t need to worry about other titles right now. There are still nine other books in the foundation series. :)

And about timelines based stories. Arthur C Clarke has and Stephen Baxter are working on a trilogy called \"a time odyssey\". Books one and two are already done and I\'m waiting for the third to get finished.

And while not SF, you can also give Neil Gaiman a try. American gods is cool. :)

Ursula K LeGuin: Left Hand of Darkness.(in fact any of her books).
Vonda N McInytre: Dreamsnake, The Exile Waiting, Superluminal.
Both of these ladies get classed as \"Lyrical\" Sci-Fi writers in that there is no hard action or massive Space Battles but the concepts and stories are superb, and what\'s more the characters are believable.
Walter Jon Williams: Voice of the Whirlwind It\'s a long time since I read it but it was a great read.
Mary Gentle: Grunts & Golden Witchbreed Both great in different genre\'s. Sadly her latter works have left me cold, and I didn\'t even bother finishing ASH.
David Brin\'s Uplift series

I thik that over in the USA you have a larger availability than the majority of the UK. London has of course got \'Foyles\' the best bookshop in the country and their Sci-Fi section used to be to die for. (Haven\'t been for a long time, they used to have a Superb Photography section as well. )
