Some more work on the elf... I think she needs a little more highlights and need to fix her lips/hair... C&C appreciated..

If you want you could push the contrast on the hair by putting some very thinned blue wash or glaze into the recesses and then taking the highlights up to an orangey tan. Try not to add to much colour to her lips though, she's a warrior not an escort - I mean, she could be both - I'm not judging. A girl's got a right to look pretty even on the battlefield ;)

For the green dude you could add some purple to the shadows and blend in some browns to make him more ugly and dark. I like the overall tone to the green though. The other guy is bit blurry but I really like the colour of the leather on his butt cape? I do think you may need to be a bit more controlled with your washes though. I have noticed some pooling on the green guys foot and on the but cape in the lower right hand fold. Try building them in several passes as opposed to one heavy application. Also, where is the elf lady at? She looked close to done in the pics above there.

Sorry for the burry pics, I took them with my cell this morning. I should be able to get better pics up this weekend. I see what you mean about the butt cape, I will try to smooth that out with some thin layers of base leather color. The last time on the slag troll, I used a red for the shadows, but that just screwed him up. I will try the purple/brown and see what I get.

The elf lady.. ugh.. where to start.. I tried to bring out the shadows more on her using a brown wash, which totally wrecked her. So I have stripped her off again and proceeding at a slower place. Milosh suggested to me not to see shadow on flesh in a form of browns, but look at it in terms of temperature. So I have used the base flesh (fair skin) and added dark blue. I think it was a 5:1 ratio, then watered down by 10 drops of water to create a wash. I base toned her, then washed, then re-toned and started the highlights. I have browned out her eyes and I need to add the leather white to them. I have started the base of the top of the hair.

The look that I'm shooting for is a very pale fair skinned high elf type.. Not sure if I'm hitting that or not.. Let me know what you all think.. Thanks!

I think you're off to a really good start here. I like the colors a lot more than the first one, the light skin and blue shadows are a great combination. My one suggestion would be to take the shadows a little further in select places. One mistake (in my opinion) that I see a lot is people make every shadow equally dark and every highlight equally light. For example, you've got shadows on the structure of the knee and her stomach that are nice and subtle. I wouldn't touch those at all. But I would make the underside of her breasts, the underside of her chin, and the crease between her right buttock and leg several shades darker. Especially for a female figure you want to be careful not to do this in too many places. Overemphasizing creases, shadows, etc will make a female figure look old or masculine. I'd do the same thing with a white for the top highlights (since its pale skin) and hit the upper part of her right thigh, tops of her breasts, tops of her ears and, if you feel like it, a little on her nose and top of her cheeks. You're just doing this selectively to emphasize major shapes.

I posted an article a little while back about painting skin. It's got a bunch of color recipes that you should ignore, as I said, I like the colors you've got going here. But one of my examples, the White Speaker, is similar to this model so it might help you see what I mean about shadow and highlight variation

Another update.. This time I'm trying my hand with some sheer clothing using the Reaper figure, Jade. I'm not sure if the sheer is too muted or not. Comment away! Thanks..

2 ways to go with it. Add more skin tone to the green or build up the green by doing very thin glazes over the skin tone and then going back and forth with the skin tone to get the sheer effect where you want it. (Said the guy who has never attempted it and will likely botch the job he does on his Fianna in the next few weeks). It just feels too opaque right now - again, no actual experience here with this, just what I have researched prior to trying it out myself.

Nice one, keep that paint watered down, lots of thin layers rather than a thick layer, Some one here told me a very good tip the lighter you go the more diluted the paint needs to be to get a smooth transition.

Keep up the good work, that cape is looking suave. the Gold NMM is coming along nice too. I have a good youtube vid I found will have a look later and post it.

found something like it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6_OoioS18Y

Thanks Canny. I think I need to add some thin glazes of the darker purple to smooth out the color on the bottom cloak. I'm pretty happy with how the red cloak is coming out, a few more glazes there and should be able to call it done. I need to figure out what I'm going to do with highlighting the base armor. Maybe some silverish color with a touch of the tourquiose for the highlights. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the sword NMM or just hit it with some metallic.. I should have another update in a day or so.

Red Cloak is looking good. Note you have a bright spot in the cloaks shadow in the back upper left in the photo. Good advice from Canny. Ould also use some very thin paint in the mid range to glaze the harshness out of the purple highlight.

I think I'm done with Dartan. I cleaned up the purple by adding a mid tone layer and added a little more highlights to the red cloak with some orange. I reduced the amount of white on the NNM gold and I think it looks better. I put some imperfections in the armor to give it a little bit of a beat up look. Comments are always welcomed! Thanks.

well done its hard to paint a cloak with so many folds. Your getting better with every mini. you could push the gold to be darker if you wanted for the next NMM, you can realy see the NMM colours change in the this figure, I tend to go look at work which is better than me for reference but not the totally uber pics as I find I get lost trying to replicate their skill.
