Second attempt with Jade. I decided not to try the sheer clothing with her this time. I tried doing the base flesh with the red brown as Trystan's Reaper thread. Not sure if I got it right. She still needs some highlights to the face and the eyes.. the freakin eyes. Am I heading in the right direction or right off a cliff?

Update on Fyre.. I think I'm getting the skin tones better.. no where near Milosh standard, but an improvement for me. Let me know what you think so far. Thanks for looking..

The troll looks good -almost like a elephant type skin, Jade's skin seems a bit chalky but that could just be the camera washing it out a bit and Fyre's skin tone looks really nice. Very healthy, smooth and life like.

way better on her skin. Still need to address her eyes though. I know how small they are and hard to paint. What paints are you using? They look like they have a shine to them. Vallejo can do this shine when worked hard with filters. That is why I switched to Jo Sonja.

Thanks Milosh.. For her eyes I have been using a .005 micro black pen. The smallest good brush that I have is a size 1, it still has an excellent tip, but I end up blacking out the whole eye when I try using it. I have some magnifying glasses coming in the mail today, maybe those will help. Should I try a smaller brush like a 00 or 000? I have been using Reaper for her so far. The eyes are a combination of Ivory and flesh base, 50-50 mix, no water. I will check out this Jo Sonja paint. Let me know if you have other suggestions/recommendations. Oh, I picked up another Andrea Model with some Christmas money - The Verthandi one. I picked up the combo with the Painting DVD from Julio Cabos based on your recommendation. Looking forward to finishing up Fyre and then starting her..

Nice work, yeah the grey skin looks very tough like ele skin. The elf skin is good too, Dam those eyes I find em hard too.

a smaller brush wont hurt but make sure it is a sable one. The next time I order brushes I'll get you one. a magnifier will help tons, I bought one of those hell boy setups with the magnifier and daylight lamp attached. I got it at Michaels with a 50% off coupon so it wasn't too bad.

HA! We are all becoming squinty old men. Before long we'll all have rocking chairs on DR's front porch where we will complain about everything...especially those damn kids walking on the lawn all the time!!!

You youngsters are welcome, just don't expect a spittoon. We can sit and grumble about the good old days when GW was cheap.
Anyhow don't have a problem with kids on the lawn got a good supply of NERF guns for that.

Update on Fyre as well. Her eyes drove me nuts again, so with the help of my newly acquired magnifying glasses and 3.5X lens, I actually thing I got the eyes right.. sorta.. I'm scared to death to try to dot them. These new pictures were taken by the new DSLR camera we got for Christmas, I have to say it does take a better picture than the old powershot. She still needs some shading and highlights with the skin, but I think I achieved the same smoothness as the 8th attempt. Let me know what you guys think.. Thanks.

I like the purple tone you added to his skin, gives him some life while keeping him cool. Here's a cheat for the eyes: give them a thin gloss coat now. Right over the eyes and around them too. Then when that is fully dry take whatever colour you want to pupil to be and mix it with some medium to help slow the drying time. Then you can try to dot them and if it doesn't look right you can wipe it off with a damp brush and try again until you get it the way you like. Then seal them with very light matte coat. Overall it's more work, but gives you a bit of a safety net.

Looking good! I like the face jeans & belly, coat, boots and shovel. This one is really coming together quite nicely. The overall palette is good too.
