I haven\'t painted much on Gotrek since the last update though... but now I have an update of Grombrindal and Bugman.

Gromrindal: I still have some work to do on the beard... and I\'m a bit curious what you think of the base?? what can I do with it??

the cloak is really crappy... any ideas to make it better?

Bugman: I haven\'t quite started on this one... I just had a few ideas... I got the goblin/snotling from a friend of mine... I though that I could do something cool with it

Love the tattoos on Gotrek, very nicely done. Maybe bring the highlights up one more level on them, but not at the cost of messing up that awesome design.

Love the yellow beard, nicely done. Is this the one where him and Gotrek are lifting up the other dwarf on there shoulders?

For the base, I would go something fancy... maybe stone floors with inlaid gold and emeralds or something like that.

yepp that\'s the one... it\'s the limited eddition aniversary WD miniature.

I\'m glad you like the design ^^ I got inspired by the cover of the book troll slayer. the first book of the Gotrek and felix novels.

that fancy marble idea is quite good but I\'ll have to think about it a bit more untill I make up my mind

QUESTION: I see you finish one area before moving to the next instead of doing the base colour everywhere, then the first highlight everywhre... whatever, you get the idea.
I\'m a beginner but painting a lot (and improving I think as I can\'t stand the sight of what I did last week :twisted , can you tell me the advantages of working the way you do, in that order?

Looks good so far, I personally like the skin, although do agree about the scar needing lightening up a touch.

the answer is that it doesn\'t have much to do with the finnished result to do.. well, not really, since it wont look the same if you did evrything at the same time... anyway...
my paint usually dry, and I don\'t really take time to do an advanced palette, so I put some paint on my usual pallete and start painting, I memorise the colours I used and mix them once again to get the same colour. and the paint I mix is usually enough for one field of the besrd, so I paint them in sections ^^ that\'s the answer to that...

Orkydave@ I don\'t know if you wan\'t to know what colour I used or what technique I used... I presume that you mean what technique I used... I painted each hair at the time.. wich means NO dry-brush.
so another tip for everyone is... don\'t dry-brush... unless you are painting an army... personally I prefer highlighted and shaded armies... dry-brushing looks too simple IMO... either you paint your army the original way... or you dip them and highlight on that.

well.. that is my oppinion of how to paint an army... didn\'t really know how I got into THAT subject.. but anyways ^^

He he... nope you presumed wrong! I also preach from the anti drybrush bible and only use it on sand and rocks!

I was actually after the colours you have used!

Hair is one area I need to put some work into and yours look spot on, so a colour recepie would be greatly appreciated.

and a colour scheme you will get

Gotrek\'s beard. I used gory red as a base colour, then I added some blzing orange and highlighted up to pure blazing orange... then I added some rotting flesh (dunno why I did that ???) after that added some sunblast yellow.

Grombrindal: I used a base colour of nalebite leather + bestial brown. then I highlighted it by adding some rotting flesh (really nice colour) and worked my way up to almost pure rotting flesh I started working with bleached bone. I mixed rotting flesh with bleach bone... after that I added some skull white to the mix and worked my way up to pure skull white. then I glazed it with brown ink and I painted the bleched bone + skull white once more.

now, that\'s just gotrek.. I have a small update on bugman aswell...

the face is really bad, so I will re-prime the face and repaint it.

man, have I had some problems with that axe?? it has fallen off like 10-15 times lol

if I hadn\'t forgot my GS at my grandma\'s house I would have a pics of the display base I have been working on for about 10 h... but it\'s not finnished anyway, so you will have to wait for that ^^

sorry for being of topic but if you have read beastslayer in chapter three i think it tells you why gotrek is a slayer in a vision arek is watching before the war i am probly wrong though

From what I remember it\'s because he was the only survivor of an expedition into the chaos wastes to bring back the lost treasure of a dwarven stronghold...which is also where he found his axe...

Anyhow, Looking good up to this point. Grombrindals beard is indeed looking fantastic Look forward to more

I will be painting the same model as a commission later this fall, so it\'s nice to see your take on it. And so far it\'s looking great!

One pointer is to glaze the tatoos with fleshcolour as they look more like warpainting atm. Though the design is really nice.

I don\'t think it\'s necessary to reprime the face, you can most often redo stuff just with using glazes etc. You risk getting to thick paint, clogging details, of you reprime and do each step again.

Great update mate. Loving those scars, very realistic looking - any chance I can get your recipe? I think Gotreks hair could come up a bit, but that is just my own preference, I like flaming red hot hair for slayers.

I just remembered, out of nowhere that in WD 319 there is a painting tut on Gotrek and Felix so I looked it up and found some really good advice

if I hadn\'t... those pants would be red with white stripes (thank god for finding that WD lol)

mousekiller@ aah, it a shame really... when I paint, I don\'t usually memorise colour schemes on what paints I used when painting different parts. only when I have to paint with the same colour twise

and god, I must get my GS back, I\'m almost dying to post the display base (as you might tell I\'m very pleased with it so far )

the only hint I can give you so far is that the beards (exept Gotrek\'s) it a living hell to paint... not very nice at all.

You are certainly a talented young man! all looking good so far.

I agree with Averlorn however- the face is not terrible and I feel can be salvaged with some glazes. If the piece were mine I would not risk re undercoating and doing it again.

Looks good, altough the pictures are a tad confusing. ??? They all look grey.

Same went for the Prince Yuriels pictures in your gallery, however, he wasn\'t grey at all irl. So, I did some editing, mainly setting some better light/contrast, fixing colors a bit and gave them a better background. I think I might have gotten a bit closer to what they may look in real life, not sure though.

Orkydave: I didn\'t reprime. I just painted a new base colour with watered down paint and with the former paint under it kind of glows through, so it\'s a nice effekt try it ^^

I\'m more pleased with the result now of the face now but now it\'s that damn beard that is bothering me it\'s a real time killer to paint...

however... I have repainted Grombrindals cloak aswell and I must say that I\'m much more pleased with it now ^^
