Hi and welcome to the forums! :D Some awesome minis you\'ve done! Beautiful skintones! I\'ve never worked in such large scales though but seeing this I\'m temted to try it out when I finally get my airbrush! :)

As for the WIP both are awesome minis but I vote the death dealer too.. :) How close to the painting are you planning to make it?

Thanks guys,

Michael Hudson the owner of ReelArt Studios has the last word on which on is released first.
Feel free to e-mail him at artist@reelartstudios.com with your thought as to which should be produced first.

At present , Chris the sculptor is working on the demons. When he is done, it will be taken to Mr. Frazetta himself for final approval. He already has approved part of the Death Dealer but not the demons.

So stay tuned,

Alex (Trismegistus)

P.S. We may be talking weeks not much more.

Some good looking stuff there for sure. I\'m somewhat surprised how loose and - dare I say it - unfinished some of the painting looks on areas of them though, considering how large the models are.

Is this a conscious decision you have made to be freer and put less emphasis on perfect and smooth blends due to the size of these pieces? Does the way that natural light acts on stuff this big mean you can rely on it to do some of the work for you, rather than going for the ubersmooth finish like many of the top painters who work on larger scale stuff around here seem to do (the work of Pepa for example)?

Thanks everyone

Glad to be here and contribute in any way I can.

We are all holding our breath for this fantastic sculpt by master sculptor Chris Gabrish to be finished, as I said before he’s working on the demons two more to go. This will be sold as a pre-paint statue, I get to have all the fun because I get the first three prototype castings in resin as paint master my job is to figure out the color palette and paint scheme, find a balance between often times the original 2D painting and what really works in 3D and paint it.

After everything is said and done, it must be approved by the original artists / family member or original license holder and ReelArt Studios /Dark Horse Comics, before going in to production.

Please note that many modelers and collectors often have them re-painted if not satisfied with factory paint-ups.

This is a scale picture of the piece to give an idea on the actual size.

enjoy.

-lono,
First let me say, this is my style of painting that I have developed over the last 35 year. I prefer to use the catch light system as oppose to the fixed light system that is traditionally used. For example, I use no browns in my skin tones most times and my lines are soft. I don’t overwork my piece by using excessive shadowing. I have developed concepts and techniques that have worked well for me over the years; all of which I have included in my book, The Art of Painting Miniatures: Faces & Figures, Compendium Publishers. As far as your comment “the way they do it around here,” I’ve learnt early on to compete only against myself. The bottom line is that this is my style of painting that works for me!

Wow i\'m simply gobsmacked!!! id love to see some tutorials on your stuff!!!

On another note, am i the only one thinking that the last pic you\'ve put upt here of the demon holding the woman reminds me of slaanesh? anyone else think that?

Btw you sure that egyptianish woman from the conan thing isn\'t a real person lol - its painted like so - i\'m amazed at your work!

Most of the artists here are used to smaller figures than you do, so contrast needs to be applied through paints moreso than lighting most of time.

But at this scale, your style is undoubtedly the most realistic that I\'ve seen in recent memory.

Cool, you managed to answer my question even though it was, after rereading it, rather messily worded! Didn\'t mean to take anything away from what you do, it\'s just noticeably different to a lot of the stuff I\'ve been exposed to.

Is it mostly due to the size that you feel your technique has evolved this way then or simply because that\'s your style? I guess what I\'m asking is - if you did a 28mm, 54mm or even a 90mm model would you have to change up your technique to work on a smaller scale?

Seeing a WIP of either of the pieces you have shown is certainly going to be interesting. I\'ve got a fairly large scale mini that\'s been sitting in my collection for ages and I just haven\'t really got anywhere with it, possibly because I\'m applying techniques more suited to smaller scales so hopefully a WIP from you would help me out.

As for the \'competition\' around here, I wasn\'t suggesting that you should be looking to do better than them, just that your style struck me as different. And I agree, you should be striving to better yourself rather than trying to beat others, but I think even a skilled painter is going to pick up some good new ideas or techniques by hanging around the forums, so even you may learn a new thing or two! :D

Hi,
Love these pieces. Your style is excellent on them.

Like Lono I would love to see, a miniature of 28mm or 50mm painted by yourself, to see how your techniques translate down sizes.

Again not trying to take anything from your work, in this scale you are the paint master, but again as Lono has expressed a number of areas are very flat with natural light giving the shading and highlight. Interested in seeing something where you have to create the lightsource.

As for which one to paint in WIP got to be the slayer guy.

Oh and a very merry welcome
