I\'m from Iowa too. Iowa City to be exact. Uni student, finished Computer Science degree, working on a Japanese language degree.

Heck, we\'re practically neighbors...

I live in a little city called Elk Run Heights (right outside of Waterloo) about 70 miles north of Iowa City.

(OFF TOPIC) Are there any good \'hobby shops\' in Iowa City? I was down about 2 months or so ago, and tried to go to one (the dragons den I think) but it looked as though they had gone out of business.

So that is what he is up to!

Finn17, your welcome to stay with us if you get near, but you will have to paint up a few mini\'s to earn your keep! ;)

Where am I? Until Thursday I am in Reno NV. An absolute hole if you arn\'t into scenic desert vistas, cattle, gambling, and drinking. I\'ve also lived all over northern CA, including Rocklin and Rancho Cordova. Both of which are suburbs of Sacramento.

On Thursday I am getting on a plane to NYC. I\'m moving into a 2500 sq ft appartment on the upper west side, already occupied by three adults and two children whom I have never met.

It promises to be a great adventure. :D
Hey Flashman and KatieG, where are the good hobby stores in Manhattan?

How to add your location...

Sorry folks!

I wasn\'t trying to start one of those threads you see in the chatrooms although we have already had a version of \'How old are you\' on the forums recently:bouncy:

You can add your location to yor profile ant that shows up whenever you post on the forums. Freakinacage asked how, so this is what to do:

Go to Forums....

Click on \'User Control Panel\' it\'s at the top.

Click on \'edit profile\'

and....Bob\'s your uncle!!:bouncy:

Cattle Gambling???

Reno, NV is the home of cattle gambling? ??? NO wonder you are moving to NYC!:D

Just to go back to the original gyst of this topic: I currently reside in Syracuse, NY. One of the reasons I DON\'T put that in \"location\" is because, having lived in other parts of the country I realise that the minute many people see NY they think NYC. I do NOT live in New York City, do not WISH to live in NYC and do not envy those who do. If that sounds like I\'m a little peevish about it, I probably am. Much of life in \"Upstate\" New York is influenced, if not downright controlled by \"Downstate\" New York. I guess its somewhat the equivalent of calling a Welshman English.

Hey Flashman and KatieG, where are the good hobby stores in Manhattan?

Unfortunately, there\'s a lor more (and better) hobby stores in San Diego than here, but here\'s a quick rundown:
Compleat Strategist 22? E 33rd street I forget exactly what the cross streets are, I think Park and 5th, but not 100% sure
Neutral Ground 122 W 26th street (between 6th and 7th)
These two sell minis, paints, etc
Games Workshop has a store on 8th street also. There are rumors of more of them opening up on the Upper East and West sides as well.
Also, there\'s Jan\'s hobby shop, on 90th & Lex (haven\'t been there since they moved from 81st and York - much closer to me then) - no minis, but have paints, Testor\'s dullcoat (only source I have for it in the city) and other useful hobby stuff.
Get your Confrontation and Vallejo\'s now though, there\'s nowhere in the city to get them. I have to either mail order or catch a ride with someone who has a car out to NJ.
Also, I dunno if you do the yahoogroups thing, but we have a NYC minipainters group at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NYC_mini-painters/
We meet every once in a while to share what we\'re working on, get and give feedback (nothing like getting feedback on minis in person, and easier to review in person as well), show each other our techniques, and sometimes just hang out and paint together. Anyways, hope this helps :)

Wow, lots of Canucks around here . . . .

Vancouver in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, and no it doesn\'t rain here all the time. lol Vancouver, the urban planners model city, the city of perfectly mixed urban development. (cue music, now)

By the way, Calgary is the cleanest city because the wind blows through there and it all ends up in Edmonton . . . Doh!
Flatlanders. lol

Cheers All, Darkblade
