Matt\'s Sunday Project, round 2

Well Matt you have already accomplished some amazing feats but now it seems you are going to do the one thing I have not seen before - a necron that actaully looks good. The armor is amazing, I am looking forward to seing the complete thing. Will the cape stay that way though - it looks a bit boring compared to the brilliance of the other parts. I am also wondering about the coils on the base, they look like rusted metal, which is a bit strange considering the mini is painted in NMM. Or do I see it the wrong way?

Thanks a bunch guys :)

I agree about it seeming a little plain. Actually there was a symbol sculpted on to the head and chest, but I filed them off because I don\'t like them! lol I\'ll try to come up with something though...

@Micha: The coils are NMM :) Was hoping that the dull/ragged look of the cape would make the armor look even more shiny by comparison. Think I should add something more? I\'m just not that big on the necron runes/text. Maybe some more highlights?

the cloak is just too plain at this point. i would go with purples to accent the gold nmm. with hints of blue in the purples to match with the blue grays of the metal nmm. then finish it up with some nice glyph work on the cape. just my opinion.

we all know you can paint, a freehand symbol should\'nt be much of a problem.

I guess you mean you don\'t know what a necron symbol would look like, that\'s no excuse either, browse the net (i\'m sure there are a couple good necron models on there), look through the codex (browse it in a store or download it if you don\'t own)
necron script is basicly a string of circles, half-circles and lines. with smaller collections as symbols.

Now get painting :cussing::cussing:

(there should be a smiley with a whip or something)

a nice blue or green symbol in there would be amazing matt, its those little details that will tie the mini together and will win you a gold for sure! just that extra little step that some minis that peeps like razza put in there that you need to add!

I love what you´ve done with the necron, but I disagree with what a lot of people are saying about glyphs and breaking up areas of the model. I don´t think you need to do that. I don´t know squat about necron fluff, so they might be covered in runes, but I don´t think it helps aesthethically to clutter up the model.

I see necrons as metallic killermachines who doesn´t care much about anything else (I might be wrong though!?), and I think they should physically reflect this - in fact if it was my mini I would seriously consider making the gold part of the breastplate the same color as the rest to make it even more sterile.

If you dont really want to add runes to it, then maybe add some battle damage. Would be an interesting mix but in theory could work well on a necron. Seeing as fluff wise they are made from a regenerating metal it gives a good reason to keep it super shiny but at the same time have some bits of damage that it is in the process of regenerating, just a thought though.

If not then i would definitely go with some extravagance on the cloak to compliment the plainness of the metals

Thanks a bunch guys. :) This Sunday I\'ll have the first arm posted and the second arm in progress.

About the runes, I just don\'t really like them. I think Slah hit the nail on the head with how I feel:

I do agree with all of you about adding in some finer detail/oomph to the figure. I think I\'ll add a little something to the cloak. Perhaps a simple gold trim and a couple necron glyph type things, but nothing too crazy. :)

Take care guys,

-Matt

outstanding. not much more to add other than your NMM is just getting better and better, even better than my old favourite - Arjay.

Thanks guys.

Here\'s the first update for the day!

Took a shot at a rune on his chest. I don\'t really like it. I may paint something on the cape but I like the idea of keeping it very plain and dirty to contrast with the shiny armor.

I\'m pretty happy with the resurrection orb though :)

I need to smooth out a bit of the blending on the hand. Real small areas are tough!

I like the idea of a darker rune, I think that will make it look better too. :)

I figured I\'d bump this to say that I probably won\'t get the chance to update this thread for another week or so. I just moved houses and since things are still a little chaotic and we haven\'t gotten internet yet, it\'s a little tough to get painting and get photos up.

Soon to come. Thanks for following, guys.

The orb is really great, i dont like the rune either, i would go for a darker rune so it looks kinda like its etched into the metal

Matt, I hate you. You\'re awesome at painting! I can\'t even get over the amount of progress I\'ve seen you do in two years on here. It\'s incredible.

You must be wary though, others may be inspired to simply kill you and eat you so they may possess your power.

By the way, sick job on that necron. I have never really liked necrons much, but I love that piece.

Incredible job, bud!
