Michael Jackson dead in cardiac arrest

@Reverend \"...as people partake in that special brand of communal grief...\"

Charlie Brooker made a point on the last series of Screenwipe that summed up my feelings about this...

His rough gist was that with the death of Diana the media made the switch from supplying us with factual information & news, to merely appealing to emotional responses. So while many people in the country laid wreaths & wept for a woman they\'d never met as though she were a sister, many of the rest of us who feel sympathy for relatives, were left detached from the media circus of emotional upwelling.

This morning before work I flicked between 3 news channels & the only information I got that didn\'t involve MJ was a pollen count map. Nothing on Iran, the new speaker, etc.

I fear that we will now have to put up with numerous tribute programs, front page features & general overwrought weeping & wailing that just makes me feel uncomfortable.

His death & the circumstances I accept as being news. Fans being upset, fair enough. Blanket media coverage to the exclusion of all else for a bloke who hasn\'t released a decent record in 20 years, I don\'t get it.

I do feel for Jermaine (& the rest of the family), he\'s always come across as being a thoroughly decent chap

You\'re joking, right?
Ed McMahon. Johnny Carson\'s right-hand man for something like 40+ years.
The Publisher\'s Clearinghouse spokesperson for forever and a half.

Heeeeeeere\'s JOHNNY!

That guy!

I found it strange that both Gordon Brown and the conservative fella both spoke at their sadness of his death. Major politicians and the PM saying things like that always remind me of parents trying to be down with the kids when they should be sorting more useful subjects out! lol

Sad for the music world only.

I personally believed the allegations against him, well in part at least, no smoke without fire, and a lot of suspicious pay offs, not totally the acts of an innocent man.

Makes me laugh a little while ago he was completely vilified now people are all oh what a tragedy, will they be the same when Garry Glitter dies?!

No, I don\'t think people will feel the same about Gary Glitter - as he was found guilty and convicted. MJ wasn\'t - he was acquitted. And as for \'no smoke without fire\' - he was an easy target, with more money than he knew what to do with. The parents of the children knew that he would pay out.

I do think that he had a strange view about kids - he never got to be one himself. He was basically working since the age of 5 - never had friends, kids around for tea or sleep-overs etc. He was ruled by his father.

I think anyone would have grown up with issues having had his kind of up bringing. :(

Although I dont agree with you there Toosh, I do respect your opinion. People are very fickle, just look at Jade Goody, public enemy number one, then I have cancer, and the press and public were oh look isn\'t she great.

The only thing she did well was raise money to look after her kids, which I or noone could knock her for.

I reckon that it was actually one of his many clone\'s who died and that there are going to be sightings for many years to come...

Every station had a The Michael Jackson Story last night. It was hardly compelling viewing.

The man could move, he was a strange sort of genius and he was incredibly successful. Apart from that he was nuts and needy.

The End.

Yeah, I\'m not sure what is more sickening, the whitewash (pun intended) of his completely sick infactuation with young boys by the media,

or the diety-like worship he is currently garnering...

Yep no one like to be reminded that their \"Heroes\" have feet of clay.
Elvis, knocking back bottles of Cough syrup for the intoxicant effect, serial womanising, Junk food addict.
John Lennon, Arrogant, Somewhat self centred, distant as a father.

I have no doubt that the lines said in Friefly at the end of Jaynestown are very true:
It\'s my estimation that every man ever got a\'statue made of him was one kind of sommbitch or another.
