Miniature Wastage

Was down cleaning up my basement (for those of you hearing those words before... it\'s a multi-month project) when it occured to me how many minis I have that are just sitting around and waiting, some for 20+ years...

Unopened and unpainted goes something like this:

200+ Reaper Blisters
4 Mordheim Warband Boxes
20+ Mordheim Blisters
10+ Ral Partha Dragon Box Sets
10+ Miscellaneous Box Sets
50+ Miscellaneous Blisters

Then there is that much again primed and ready to go.

Then there are my GW armies which count for another 300+ minis.

I\'ll try to remember to snap some photos later tonight.

Now, I\'m sure there must be more of you out there with similar piles going to waste? It\'s time to come out of the closet and admit your shame.

Hey well, if you want and um.... you wont ever paint them.... I have a nice home they could come to lol
I havnt got any unopened stuff, and everything i have is primed, i have a habit of building stuff the minute i get it, priming it then never painting it lol, but i have made a start on a load of orcs tonight which have been sitting around for a couple of month.

Well, in the little over a year that has passed since I got back into the hobby, I have somehow managed to accumulate about 25 different box sets of older minis (estimated between 200 and 250 individual minis), and at least an equal number of loose minis. Ebay is evil.

I have come to the grim realization that I will likely die before I get them all painted!

I would have about 200+ miniatures that are unpainted and about 100 that are in the process. Most of my unpainted ones are minis my son bought and left in the hope that I would paint them.

Wow, you have a whole store\'s worth of Reaper... I say sort them all, be ruthless and sell the extras off on eBay. It\'s the only way to prevent yourself being found someday, walled into your house by piles of pewter and dead of starvation.

treide - some of us don\'t mind that you are a collector :D But most people in this hobby will die with unpainted minis in their possession, so I wouldn\'t worry too much about that.

I spent about £3,200 on staff sales in the three years I worked for GW. Mostly metal stuff, so buying on weight I figure that\'s around £18,000 worth of models, just about all of them still unpainted.

It\'s a terrifying amount of stuff when I think about it, but a fair bit done with ebay potential in mind.

I went through a phase of working out a 2,000 point army every month or so, then pretty much tripling everything in it and buying it - opening up some options for selling on the extra two armies I was getting when I left.

I also managed to accumulate a rather large amount of limited edition models too, and the staff Christmas presents, all of which are unpainted.

A little naughty I suppose, but with the wages they paid me I figured a little entrepreneur activity was in order!

Means I have the ultimate bit box right now too!

The scary thing is how little space that much money\'s worth of miniatures takes up.

I have a stupid amount of stuff littered across two continents. I find it very hard to get rid of stuff, I want to paint it all, I just never get round to it and I can\'t stop myself buying more...

This is why some nice guy invented eBay :D Take pictures and sell it. You will be supprised at how much you recover from your initial investment and some items will sell for much greater amounts.

In the last 3 years Ive sold off 1000\'s of models and games stuff that Ive accumulated many from working in the industry like others here and have paid off bills and paid for three trips to Europe.

Ive still a pile to go and a spring trip to pay for so Ill be back at it soon. God I love eBay :bouncy:

Only several hundred here, but what I\'d really, really like to know is: how do we get this way? ??? Hundreds or thousands of minis, and there\'s not one that we\'d rather open up and paint, instead of buying a new one?

I didn\'t want to have to have thought about it, but now it has been brought up it is quite scary the amount of unpainted and for the most part unopened amount of metal, plastic and resin inis that I have. Thankfully the nice men that built my house gave me lots of cupboards and dark places to hide them in.

I\'ve made it crystal clear to my family and friends that if miniatures are given as gifts, it will be painted ones, given by me, not to me. :)

Several months ago I was looking to buy Rackham\'s Ophidian archer from my LGS, but was bummed to see the blister had sold. About a month after that I was cleaning up my painting area and look in a bag to find the Ophidian archer. I think I have a problem. Buy less, paint more, buy less, paint more...

Oh come on....If one little pewter miniature can give us that much happiness....imagine what 10,000 of them must do!!

(I\'m striving to find out....)

I\'ve added a WHOLE room on to my house, and build cabinets in the garage to help store my metal heroin. (plus there\'s more in the shed)....

It is an interesting \'condition\' to say the least. Not one that is isolated only to our hobby...the \'hoarding\' mentality....
