bill, you are the absolute last person who should feel inadequate!! You are going so well, and you are still so young! If you keep painting, you are going to become such a great painter - you\'ll be able to become as good as you want to be, it all depends how much time and effort you put into it.

This is part of the way I think when this topic comes up: we are all on the same journey with painting; it just depends how far you have progressed on that journey. Some people reach a point where they are happy with their level - others aren\'t happy, and keep working to move further. It takes a lot of effort to progress - I personally have done so so much painting over the last few years, to try to get better! I still have a strong urge to improve though. It\'s all about practice, and effort - I think that almost anyone can achieve a very high level with painting, if they put in enough time and effort. That\'s something that gets lost sometimes, I think - people see some of the great painters on this site, and feel like they can never reach that level. But what is hidden is the huge amount of work and effort that has been put into painting by those great painters - instead, it somehow appears on the surface as if they jsut have a magical talent for painting, or are instantly good at it or something. I suppose that natural talent plays a role, but I think that practice and hard work are the real things that make someone become good at painting!

Sorry everyone, it\'s a bit off topic - it\'s just a thought though, don\'t worry :)

practice and experience, that\'s the only differeance.

You\'re not only an inspiration with your painting, but also with your words.

Thanks,

I paint my thumb.
I must say, I am quite shaken by this thread, my perception of the paiting process is... transformed.
I always assumed the visual effect was created by the very small scale, like the painting is an approximative process, and nature of the medium, with the scale and 3 dimentionnality, created a visual effect... From this close, It\'s obvious it\'s much more defined and selective than I tought. Crappy explanation I know...
Man, what have I got myself into....

@Krom: I switched to Vallejo, happy I did^^
Flow, coverage, opacity are all big subject for me lately... Wish I had a cam to show you exactly where I am at now ( This one was a few months old.)

This is really a valuable learning, with few words, few technicities, very big pics... and pure painting. Great Idea.

Just done some playing around so thought I would see how close I can get in 10mm scale :D

First pic is a front and back view of my Warmaster scale Ogres (10mm scale) shot at about twice normal size.

Ogres.jpg

Next up are seperate shots of front and back. I forgot to add the rule for the proper effect.

Ogres-back.jpg

Not the best of shots I de-rigged my set up a while back to stop it collecting dust and trying to get it back to normal again is proving to be a pain.
:cussing:
I could make these bigger again if you like just ask :D

Should have known you would ask :D if not you then Chris lol

Here you are then this is one of the other stands. Stands are 20 x 40mm 4 figures to a stand.

Twin-of-Big.jpg

Photo bucket for some reason is cutting the 2nd shot in half :( so you will have to enlarge it yourself I am affraid.

Big.jpg

Likewise on the other post all pictures are being cut to a max 800 pixels wide despite me changing the settings :(

i may be insane, but eyes on a 10mm model would even push natalya\'s skill.

go on natalya, there is a challenge for you! paint some of those gorgeous eyes you do on a 10mm model.

In for a Penny in for a Pound.

Normal Size figure. (In fact double life size)

Face.jpg

Up close and personal.

Another one of Werner Klocke\'s Dwarves on one of Spacemunkie\'s excellent Groundforge Bases. (Must save up to buy more.)
I\'ve change painting techniques a little since this one was done in April of 2006 and now glaze skin tones much more. I think it looks better for the finished product.
