I\'ve listened to it a couple of times now and to be honest he\'s basically using modern Pop Culture references to capture attention.
Ok it might sound a bit strange coming from a politician, but he\'s doing what a lot of teachers do. Putting his arguiment in terms of reference most people can \"get a hook into\".
Personally I think it\'s pretty brave attempt to get his point across.

Ah, so when a representative agrees with \"Fo Shizzle, My Nizzle.\" it\'ll be all good.
Sorry, man, he\'s addressing other representatives, not school children.
These men and women have gone to some of the finest schools in the world.
These are supposed to be some of the most intelligent, though one could argue that by judging their actions as well as words.
Plus, Star Trek isn\'t Pop Culture anymore, unless you happen to be single, overweight, and in your thirties, possibly living in your parents basement.
Hell, I loved Star Trek, and even I realize that this guy is an uberdork.

Oh so the Televison cameras are there just for posterity and historical recording purposes and this is never broadcast to the general public? Sorry but it\'s obvious to me that he knew it would get broadcast somewhere due to the content of what he was saying.
These men and women have gone to some of the finest schools in the world. So there\'s no Joe Schmoe ever elected?
These are supposed to be some of the most intelligent, though one could argue that by judging their actions as well as words. And does that mean that they are totally above comprehending the context he\'s putting the terms of reference in.

Agreed. These men and women are discharging duties to the citizens of a superpower. They should conduct themselves with more gravity.
I totally agree ALL politicans should behave with more gravity. However until they stop having political scandals, corruption, extra-martial whatevers and start behaving like the Public Servants that they really are, I\'ll reserve the right to regard them with a seriously jaundiced eye.
And to clarify things I was elected and served as a Councillor 20 years ago. If you think \"mainstream\" politics is bound by self serving people, try local politics.
Hence my very Jaundiced and Cynical viewpoint.
The crew of the Enterprise occaionally deal with Black Holes, you can\'t get much more \'gravity\' then that!Originally posted by philologus
