It\'s Sunday!

In my neck of the woods it\'s Sunday! I hope you get plenty of painting in today so we can all see your progress on this little d00d. Looking very c00l!

I\'m hopefully going to be completing painting on my \'Ork\' today. This will make it two completed minis in 4 and a half years. Ain\'t bad for me.

Yes it is Sunday! And it\'s 5 am now, time for bed!

Here\'s the first update for the day:

Sigvald19.jpg

There\'s a lot of skin in areas I don\'t normally paint. lol He is Slaanesh, after all, so I suppose he can be forgiven for wearing a chainmail bikini. Since I normally do edge highlighting I dread painting smooth organic surfaces like skin, as it can be really time consuming with my method of blending. Hope it turned out halfway decent!

I tried letting some skin show through the gaps in the chainmail. Just a little bit here and there, as I didn\'t want to overdo the effect.

I also added in some reflected light from the gold armor onto his skin (you can see this on the face too). Hopefully that makes the armor appear like it\'s really shiny.

I still need to add the red reflections on the outer part of the left leg armor. Forgot about that. I also just need to paint the straps and silver rivets/buckles. Any ideas for the color of the straps? I\'m thinking black or a dark brown leather color.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. :)

Oh, and I finally removed that pesky hair! lol

This is looking bloody excellent.
I would love to see you paint the Gold NMM. I have tried this going form black, but just can\'t get it right. Any chance of a little vid???/

I think the skin looks very good, especially with some showing through the chainmail. I dunno how you did that but its a great effect.

But this just raises another question. So hes wearing a chainmail bikini, but hes got nothing on under it? Alls I can say is ouch.

But hes lookn awesome aside from the uncomfortable underwear part (or lack there of).

Thanks guys :) Just woke up so it\'s time for another painting session! Hope to get the legs and torso finished today, then I can start on the sword.

I would love to. However I do not have a video camera, let alone one that would be good enough to capture detail at this level.

Maybe I can do a step-by-step at some point. The way I do this doesn\'t go up from black, but I start the basecoat with a 50/50 mix of my Scorched/Black and Snakebite Leather. Then I shade back down with Scorched/Black. I find it a lot easier than going up from pure black. Hope that\'s a little helpful! :)

Yes I\'d imagine it would hurt wearing that underwear! lol

The effect was done by just painting some different shades of the fleshtone in the crevices of the chainmail before I basecoated it. And when I basecoated it black, I made sure to avoid those areas.

Cheers

So much for getting this guy done by the end of the year! lol I\'ve been caught up in commissions (you can probably see that in my other wip threads :D)

But I did make some decent progress today. I\'m pretty happy with the sword so far. The underside has some red reflections from the lava.

I wasn\'t too keen on the silver shoulderpads but now that there is more silver on the model I really like the addition of it.

Still going nuts with reflections, such as on the silver trim at the bottom of the breastplate. Reflections are fun to do. :)

Some of the best nmm out there!

I think what really makes is that the blends arent 100% perfect, which if you look at real metal, the blends are never perfect between light and dark, because of the objects around!

Cant wait to see this finished!

Okay Matt. I am gonna have to make sure I can come down to the store this Friday just to see this one in person. I am gonna bring a pen and paper to take some notes on your recipes too if you dont mind. You really are doing a great job on this one.

Ditto that... I think I suck now, I won\'t be able to paint for the rest of the night :(

Seriously though, that\'s freckin awesome, way beyond everything I saw in your gallery.

Thanks guys for all the kind words :) They mean a lot to me

I should have some time this week to work on him more, rather than just next Sunday. Hopefully I can knock out the rest of the sword in the next couple days and get some progress made on the shield. It\'s really just a matter of spare time now! lol

Cheers,

Wow. That\'s just amazing that is. I literally had to stare at it for a few minutes to let everything soak in, and to notice all the little details. I\'m blown away with the reflections in the leg and shoulder armor in particular.

The patience and talent needed to bring something like this to fruition... wow. Time for me to buck up.

Fantastic!! You have inspired me to do some NMM painting! I also love doing reflections of things :) Your technique is not perfect, but that give it a bit of \"cover art\" quality, just like with Rustos or Yellow ones work. Your style is growing closer to Kirils I think, love it! :D Both of you seem to be great 2D artists as well. Love the model as the rest of you do, I\'ll have to paint it some day *looks at lead-pile and sighs*! :)
