new white dwarf article, NMM HATE

I just got the US White dwarf #309, and this guy is talking out of his ass. now, he is a GW employee, and we all know how GW hates anything that looks good, so im not surprised. the article title is \"NMM is wrong!\". And the reasons he gives are that the mini is 3-dimentional, and that NMM belongs on 2-dimentional objects, like canvas, and not much else. anyone else read this? BTW it is on page 3.

EDIT: the reason i am outraged, is because it is an insult to me. this article is a response to another written about nmm and source lighting in a previous issue, and my gandalf that won a silver demon was featured for having nmm and source lighting on it. and then this guy writes an article trashing me, and other demon-winning artists featured in that issue.

there.. blew off some steam, feels better.

Everyone stop shading and highlighting immediatly... that\'s something for 2d too... 3d has shadows and highlights of it\'s own... Oh and don\'t do silky fabrics... or in fact don\'t try to mimic any sort of reflective material like latex... mimicking fabrics and textures is a 2d thing too. Guess GW would have been against NLL (non latex latex) if they sold latexpaint...

I agree they shouldn\'t be attacking nmm.

I am quite surprised, that they would feautere an article like that and I am particulary surprised that it feautered in a US White Dwarf: In US many of the Golden Demon winners, even the slayer sword winners are done with nmm!

It doesn\'t really make sense to me.

Page 3 (not the Sun\'s Page 3) or, \"A Word in Your Ear,\" is the new(ish) opinion column meant to \"engender constructive debate.\" So I don\'t really see it as GW making an official or blanket anti-NMM statement, but someone giving their personal opinion about the technique. And as far as know, people were still able to have these.

Should get your figs soon.
I still can\'t make myself read the rest of last months issue. I only buy the ones that feature painting galleries-for plagiarism.....I mean inspiration.

Sad indeed. Just goes to show how they are losing the grip on being the driving force in this hobby.

The guy is talking out of his hole.

I bet he couldnt paint nmm well. thats why :)

Seriously though, it really pisses me off, who are they to tell us what looks right or wrong, beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all,

A cheap swing from gw to try and redeem money from there now obviously lower sales of metallic paints.

Also, though i could be wrong, this could be a stab at thier next most major competitor, being Rackham. who use nmm and nmm only.

Actually, he is right. NMM is for 2D objects.
Why do you thin Some NMM look like a picture. Thats why alot of people use it for pics on the web. I would never use NMM in an army I am gaiming with.

This is wrong too. Highlighting and shading are used on canvas.Canvas= 2D.

Yeah. I figure it was more like an editorial.

Holding my judgement....but not my breath

Well, now I\'m going to have to go and pick up my copy tomorrow.

If this is how the article actually reads, I\'ll be upset. I worked hard to get my silver this year and don\'t need someone trashing my style of painting. There are specific skills needed for both types of painting and they should understand that.

The whole 2d vs 3d argument is ridiculous. Minis are too small to get accurate reflections that would allow some of the things we see when looking at items or scenes that are full size. A true sky-earth reflection could never be realized using metallic paints, but in reality is a true effect on a metallic surface.

It never ceases to amaze me that a company which requires painting to compete with their figures and holds competitions based completely on painting would actually print an article that takes a shot at a specific style.

Does this mean I should stop trying to learn NMM? I was just starting to get kind of passably good at it.

Let us note: As stated above, the author has a Golden Demon.... did he do it with metallics or NMM?

If he used NMM for it, then we can label him a hypocrite and move on peacefully, laughing at him all the while.

If he won it with metallics, it still doesn\'t mean anything, unless you let it. NMM looks good when well-executed. Metallics, the same.

Each to his own.

Move along.

Nothing to see here.

Ehh... to each his own. That doesn\'t mean he should be bitching about it, though.

I don\'t particularly like NMM. I can\'t paint it, nor do I have any urge to learn how. I paint in an old school style, and it wouldn\'t suit me. I won\'t slag it though, I\'ve seen some amazing stuff, and if that is what you like, more power to you.
