No need to remove ALL your stuff! Just download GIMP (it\'s freeware) and follow the tutorial in the photo section on how to make photo montages.

You do good stuff so please do show it. It\'s just that these multiple posts that fill the top-10 with the same miniature has been rubbing people the wrong way for years. :)

just out of interest, is there a way for moderators to \"link\" submissions together? Or tag as \'duplicate\' with a reference to the original?

That way duplicate pics can be linked & get 1 score.

No need to take them all down. Your painting deserves the scores it is getting. One close up and one full view or one front and one back are the general norms.

Welcome to the madhouse that is CMON.

Well i have not been reading the forums here at all so i really had no idea untill pointed out to me today.

But to come here and read a whole tread with people being pissed about some work that i posted does really make me tired and a bit shocked to say the least.

Im not in this to get a low ranking as was pointed out to me today. Its only numbers that dont meen a thing to anyone.

I thought it was a forum for showing paintworks bad or good so that we can learn from eachother.

Thats my 2 cents anyways

Good luck with the painting in the future guys and girls

fair play!

i have to say i hate multiples. the way i see it, if someone as shite as me can do a montage, it must be easy!

dude, you can do it in paint (free on most computers). just open up the canvas and then cut and paste one of the other pics. easy peasy

Guys, I think you must keep in mind that the vast majority of the users haven\'t taken part in previous discussions on this subject and many don\'t even care that much of the voting system but just want to show their work.

I think this thread and the treatment of ElJacho in the previous thread calls for that people must put a little more thought into their replies and give people the benefit of the doubt in matters concerning these issues of the site (I\'m not without guilt). Imagine yourself in Jimmys position, being officially blasted for something that he didn\'t even know was a problem! Nobody\'s told him it before and he had to learn it this way? How many users know that the rating is based on the 5 highest scoring miniatures, how many cares? I think sending a polite inquiry through the PM\'s is a much better way of confronting the problem of multiple postings then public shaming... at least as a first step. :p

We moderators cannot link different submissions. There is little we can do other then either approve/reject/delete.

OR....just do as I do, and never look at the 10 ten.

It\'s just other peoples opinions, and most of the time, I don\'t agree with them!

But yeah, I wish there was a little more \'moderator power\' that we could link identical pics...

I am sure it was not people\'s intention but as it often happens unintended consequences are the easiest to predict.
It was a beautifully painted bust (scary as hell though).

We moderators cannot link different submissions. There is little we can do other then either approve/reject/delete.

The forums and gallery portions of the site, may need some more interconnection, to make things learned from the forums for the administration/mods to improve the gallery area so that people know what is going on.

As has been said by many the description on how to vote isn\'t all that helpful as many don\'t know what that line really means.

\"Voting Guide: Pretend you\'re a Golden Demon judge. Painting skill, imagination and style are key!
10 is amazing, 8 is a great job, 5 is tabletop quality.\"

For those never going to a GD, then that line really means nothing except drawing lines to where you should vote. Is that really the scale for GDs?

So placing something in the rules section that just reminds people of a few things when posting should prevent accidents in the future. Of course, people abusing the system will always be there, but the actual accidents could be toned down as this one seems to be an accident or misunderstanding of this site, as MANY people use CMoN in many different ways from, trying to inflate their scores for whatever reason, for free unlimited bandwidth image hosting, for stores etc.

I also thought mods could update the images of images rather than having to go through deleting and reuploading it? ???

So after a decade the site has gained so many people, it may need a little work to tailor it back into a working site with ideas and info on how to upload images for ranking and not.

Heck add an option for users and mods to disable ranking on certain minis and to skip them when the ranking is done, or even disable voting on minis. Then those people not wanting to be part of that little portion can still show off and discus minis without causing problems.

Just some ideas thrown out, while bored waiting for plaster to dry. :D

I like that idea of linking duplicates when editing gallery. Or maybe limit each person to one spot in the top 10 - perhaps limit it based on manufacturer and category. It would help the somewhat rare situation where a person would have two totally different minis in the top 10 L7D.

My post was not to have a go at the poster of this work, as I stated earlier it is a well deserving bit of work and I enjoyed Jimmy\'s previous submission of the large scale Marine, my point was at the number of submissions of the same thing and not just at one person or the one persons work, I can accept and live with one or two submissions of the same piece and have done so over the years here.

Jimmy, taking down all of the photos is a bit extreme but if that is how you feel then it is your choice.

Jarrett, I think limiting a person to only one spot in the top ten of the week is a bit harsh, what if that person has two or three different entries all scoring enough to enter the top ten?

At the end of the day we all like to see nicely painted figures but seeing them over and over again when you are on a slow connection with no chance of access to anything fast can get a bit annoying.

I think it is good manners to try and find out a little about how a community works, what are the \"rules\", both written and unwritten, and so forth, when deciding to join. Of course, you can\'t find everything at once, but you sort of adjust as you go along. If you get told off for doing something wrong or that irritates people you adjust.

Atacam pointed out to Jimmy that a montage of photos would be better received. His comment was straightforward and to the point, but not impolite. He got a rather arrogant reply, though... It is a shame that some people rather leaves than try to adjust to the community, but that\'s how some people reacts to being told off.

First of all man i reacted the way i did cus atcam wrote that he woted the way he did cus there were multiple posts and not on the work.

Second my answer was a bit arrogant as you wrote and i do appologise for that ,,
BUT i still belive such things should be discussed over Pm s.

As for people should know the unwritten rules well i can honestly say i dont aggree at all.
Eather have a rule or dont.
I have been on the forums here a wery few times and mostly to see if anyone has something nice for sale. And i really had no idea that the subject was so infected.

Ritual you are talking about good maners mate.
Slandering people behind their backs is really not good maners in my book.
Atcam was the only one who took his time to acctually speak to me regarding the problem and pointing me here .

I have recived tons of kind Pms after this regarding the problem and me pulling my work from CMON , i appreciate the kind words guys

So it really should not be so hard in the future to solve these things in a civilized maner. Just send a Pm and try to solve it with the person .
Rather than just starting posts and backtalking people here.
I imagine that its not as fun though,,

A community is more than just an application with a set of simple rules. A community is a social context and as such there will exist a lot of unwritten \"rules\" (that\'s why I used the quotation marks) that comes from how people adjust to each other. It\'s the same thing as in \"real\" social contexts. Every group of people has its own dynamics. Joining an internet community takes a bit of the same sort of adjustment as joining a club or a group of friends or whatever. I don\'t say that everyone should know everything about the group dynamics before joining, but one should be aware of its existence and show a willingness to adapt. If you do something that seem to go against what the community think is good conduct, maybe accept that and try to adapt instead of pulling all your images and walk away? The choice is yours, of course, but if you want to share your work with people who like to see it (and we do, trust me!) then it\'s not difficult to just learn how to make montages (it\'s quick and easy, and you can find all you need to know right here in the forums).

About how to address the problem... yeah, perhaps you\'re right about discussing it here. But, that\'s something we\'re used to doing, and it\'s not exactly \"behind anyone\'s back\" as it\'s an open forum. I figured as atacam quickly made you aware of this issue that there was no point in bombarding you with similar messages. If you took offence to anything I said, I apologise. I just thought that posting five rather similar photos was close to \"spamming\". It wasn\'t meant as slandering or an attack on you, just addressing a problem that have caused irritiation here a lot of times during the years. Since the number of miniatures posted here has swelled it is difficult to keep track of what\'s being posted. Lots of people, me included, use the top-10 for the last seven days as a way to keep track of the best recent stuff and seeing the same mini take up a quarter of the list is irritating. That\'s the whole issue, as far as I\'m concerned.

I\'d be really happy if you re-posted your stuff as it is great work and also nice to see things that are different from the standard fare around here.

Again, sorry if I offended you in some way.

Either have a rule or dont.

This is a very, very salient point...

There are lots of things that are not against the law, but it pisses you off when people do, none the less. There will always be \"unwritten rules\" in all sorts of situations. Some are obvious and some are less so and takes a bit of \"testing the waters\" to learn. But keeping a \"if it\'s not written down, I can do whatever I want\" attitude towards a community is not constructive (I\'m not saying that is the attitude Jimmy has, BTW... just for argument\'s sake).

You\'re talking about a \'community\' Anders, but to the vast majority of people who use CMON, it\'s just a website. You\'re judging people on a code of conduct that has become the consensus of a handful of people on the forums. Forums that most CMON users never even visit.

Point is, if it gets people\'s knickers in a twist so much and is so important, legislate against it and don\'t expect everyone to be mind-readers!

Just a website? You need to become a member to post minis, there\'s the comments, the voting... that means it\'s a community of sorts. I agree that the forum constitutes a tighter community than the site in general, but it\'s not like the forum is a hidden thing.

Mike and Sven already mentioned how it is difficult for them to know whether someone posted plenty of photos of the same thing. A rule like that would be difficult to enforce without adding features to the site (and I don\'t think that will happen anytime soon...). A lot of things don\'t need actual rules, either. With dialogue and a bit of mutual respect people can come to a consensus about how to do things without there having to be a long list of hard rules.

Some people will not care about the community and just use CMON for their own purposes and there\'s not much we can do about it. But when someone does care, and Jimmy did show up here to discuss this issue, it should be possible to come to a mutual understanding and clear up any possible misunderstandings or harsh words. That\'s what I hope, at least. :) I don\'t think anyone\'s knickers were that twisted, either. Just venting some annoyances, that\'s all. I\'m not losing any sleep over this.

I don\'t expect people to be mind-readers, as I\'ve mentioned several times in this thread. Sometimes you do things that are not accepted by a community (happened to me a few times over the years)... no big deal with that, as long as you are open-minded about it and willing to see things from another point of view. Sometimes you\'re right and sometimes you\'re not.
