Thanks guys, they are loads of fun to paint since I can just let loose and try whatever I want, if I do mistakes it can be covered in weathering anyhow. :)

Operation finish stuff continues! I've reached into my shelf and dug out the reminder of the models I started, but didn't finish. Goal now is to get them all done this week. You've seen a lot of this before...

The last guy is new, but he was primed and in the shelf and had been there for a while, so I grabbed him as well. He is nearly done already, it's a zombicide zombie and I always use quickshade on those.

Thank Moe! BAM, I didn't know John Blanche, so I googled him - pretty happy I did, that's some cool stuff! Seems like he has inspired or been inspired of Gerald Brom, and Brom is one of the original concept artists for Dark Age. Suggests that I'm on the right track if you think that. :)

You'll find Blanche predates Brom. Love him or hate him he is the force behind GW's artistic look. We are talking the '80's now!

I was very much in the 'love' camp for Blanche. One of my favourite pieces is still his Chaos Knight smacking a skellington in the jaw with a warhammer from the warhammer RPG

Great Oistene! Nice colours on that zombie-skeleton thing. and on the red t-shirt boy I think zombie beats the human, I like it way more ^^

Been doing lots of stuff lately, just haven't taken the time to update. Dave and Numbskull are done, pictures will follow once I have a little piece of mind. Very happy how Numbskull turned out, Dave got a little meh but will work on the table. I was going to finish Mean Jellybean yesterday, but instead I knocked him off the table with my mail and had to repaint some of his spikes and the top of his head. No lasting damage, however.

Also, I've been lured into Warmachine, so I've started to speed paint a bunch of banes. They are nearly done:

Mean Jellybean is waiting at the back of the undead horde, having been repaired and needing shading reapplied to the repaired parts. Once that is done, he needs sealing and some more water effect.

Some happy fellows here, going to apply a glow to the eyes and the runes next.

Close-up on a bane. Pretty happy with these, considering the time spent (probably less than an hour per mini, even after doing bases it shouldn't be much more than an hour spent).

That's good quality for a speed paint. Wish I could do something that fast - I tend to plod along (with enthusiasm of course!).

So glad Mean Jellybean didn't suffer any serious damage. I knocked a completed mini off my work table once and I was furious with myself! He landed just wrong and came unglued (despite the fact that I had pinned him), but landing on tiles will do that to you. Fortunately I'd already varnished him, so the paintjob survived the calamity.

I'm keen to see how your recently finished guys turned out.

I'm pretty happy with the way the Dark Age Brood guys (Numbskull and Mean Jellybean) turned out. They've been sitting on my table since the Dark Age contest early this year, it is great to finally finish them. I had to redo a bunch of stuff on the Warmachine Bane Thralls, as the bases didn't go as I planned and they stayed shiny after varnishing, even with a good layer of Testor's cullcote, but in the end, I am happy with the result VS effort.

As for speed painting - you'll get naturally quicker as you practise, but other than that, any increase in speed is a dip in quality, and should generally only be done if you are painting many figures for gaming or comissions. That said - just trying it a few times can be great practise. You'll train getting your work flow, planning ahead, brush control and last but not least covering your mistakes. :) I recommend trying it at least once, but have a bunch of minis, at least five, if you do it.

Great work on them Oistene!! I like them lots.

I agree with you on that speed painting (or line-painting), grouping similar or equal minis and working on them at the same time is really necessary when doing an army. Although I don't like doing that (for me gets mechanical and boring) I try to treat myself with some experimentation when I paint them, that way you can practice or learn repeating and/or improving techniques and mixtures.

*going to check my WF-Skaven rattlings and cry for what I still have to paint*

Thanks guys! Are you a Warmahordes player, Krule? The banes are a blast, okay assembly and basically paints themselves as long as you do plenty of weathering on them. I'm doing rider versions now, better put up a WIP picture before they aren't WIP anymore. :)

Maenas, I've found that I don't mind too much, as long as I can do one or two interesting things in the mix. I love getting stuff done, to be able to put some finished models into action/shelf/storage is a joy of its own, but I try something new or something I'm not all that good at. When doing WoK Ashmen, I practised doing decent red highlights on the masks and horns. For my CORE, weathering, metal, two-brush blends and blue OSL. On the Banes I applied what I learned while doing CORE, and applied green glow to the eyes and runes. Even while doing these quick, sloppy jobs, I manage to learn stuff I can use for 'better' models later. At the moment, I don't really see myself doing display work. I will, later down the road, but it is not what I want to be doing now. :)
