Paint Aid and the fun begins

I still feel that this was a great success and that Tracy and Mike did a stirling effort in making it come to fruition. I was proud to be a part and would do the whole thing again.
I posted a remark in one of the threads a good while ago that the Tsunami fund was being closed because it simply had too much money, and indeed I just found this
https://www.donate.bt.com/bt_form_dec.htm

We have achieved something wonderful lets not spoil it now by falling out the money will go to charity, we missed the Tsunami window but we still have a large amount of money to donate to charity.

Well done to everyone involved from the painters to the organisers and everyone else who helped.
Also a big well done and thank you to the auction winner.

In essence, I agree that a donation to charity is a donation to charity, regardless of the cause.

However, I sincerely believe that the plight of the Tsunami victims still outweighs those of the Katrina disaster. I\'m not demeaning the disaster in the US but it seems to me that this disaster is better placed to be dealt with far more effiiciently due to it being located in the richest nation on Earth... After, what seems to be a disasterous start to the humanitarian aid and evacuation effort, this is surely going to be effectively solved far quicker than the crisis in SE Asia.

It just seems incredibly disappointing that after the amount of time this has taken to coordinate that the final funds raised will be going elsewhere.

I understand that the window has been missed for the Tsunami appeal but the area still requires aid.

Also, if there was going to be a change of recipient for the funds, surely a better option would have been to make a donation to the plight in West Africa - Mali and Niger. These people have nothing at all and there are over 5-6 million people affected.

Again, I am not playing down the disaster in the US.

What Klute, Spacemunkie, Beelzebrush and reverend said.

Still, a big well done for all involved

Well like I said it was a great pleasure to have been a part of this project whatever the final outcome, I would do it all again for sure.
However if all we are going to do now is bicker over the way it has ended then you can count me out of any future event. :flame:

A few point from the other side of the fence:

1. We as a group took way too long to get this done. Most of us had our pieces painted and turned in back in February, but a few Prima Donnas here had to take an extra 6 months to do their assinments. Poor Mike even had to do extra pieces to finish this project up. You want to be associated with an event, you have to be more timely.

2. As Tracy mentioned, one of the \"major contributors\" demanded that the chairity be Red Cross. Announcements were made. You didn\'t bitch then, why now?

3. When you give to a chairity, it is not like using electricity, it is like giving to a chairity. You gave a gift. It is now theirs to use as they see fit. If you put restrictions on a donation, it is no longer a gift and may lose all its charitible status (be subject to taxes, etc.)

4. I know Tracy well enough that I do not believe that she is going to write off $3k+ as a chairitible contribution on her pesonal taxes this year. But truth be told, she and Mike have certainly donated enough time and effort to each take that deduction or more. And I think it was a very cheap shot to even bring it up.

5. If you think you can do better, step up to the plate and run the next one - from getting an army donated to distribution to recollection to sale. If you are not willing to do that, then shut the crap coming out of your mouth.

6. Congradulations to many of you are in order on a job well done. Special thanks from me to Greenstuff, TAB and Dragonsreach for seeing this to completion. Also special thanks to SuperVike and Tiddoco for helping me with my piece. I am sure that I have missed many acolades that should have been given, for that I am sorry.

Airhead,
Out.

Theres been some good points raised here, however i do not see how some sort of debate or argument always ends up starting because of the words of a few choice individuals. This has been an amzing project where a great ammount of talented artists have come together to raise money for a charity, (so it may have taken longer than expected) the money will still be needed by that charity now and in 6 months and so on, this was such a good thing done by fine honest people.

Im sorry if i\'m bieng too simple here, but why can\'t people just have a positive outlook about this and think, there are people who mostly dont even know each other and have all come together to raise $3000+ for extremely needy people, and at the end of the day isnt that what really matters.

It seems a smashing job has been done - no arguments. Some people automatically assume that some folk come here to stir. I\'ve had that levelled at me in the past, but balls to it. Well done everyone, but keep the original meaning of the affair. And make sure noone\'s health suffers next time.

And yep, calm down Airhead lol

Whilst I personally agree with everything Beelzebrush has said. I still think it\'s an incredible achievement that we managed to get this project done, despite the number of setbacks we had. I\'m glad we raised $3500 for a good cause, despite the money not going to Tsunami relief I still feel the effort was worthwhile. Great work everyone!

But can I suggest if we are doing future charity projects that we just decide to donate to a specific charity, rather then a specific cause?

Regards

Kat

Some of us thought that we were best off using the red cross as a charity as it is possibly the most well known charity in the world. The strife and immense suffering that moved us to raise $3000 for the cause is still happening, and although the focus of the charity we have gone for has shifted due to recent unforseen events, I am sure the money will be used wisely and fairly.

Yes its a pity we couldnt get it finished in time to help those who moved us to paint in the first place, but the individual people who it will help are no less deserving than those of the Tzunami despite them belonging to the richest nation in the world. And while their government should probably be spending less time invading other countries and more time focussing on their own poor, they are not.

Its just a little awkward for all the advertising that we have done. The money is still being used by the red cross but there has been a change in natural disaster... :(

Pete, I ain\'t saying this to be at all untoward, but that\'s a really funny turn of phrase lol You made a disaster sound like an admin issue or something. Made me laugh!

Otherwise, you\'ve summed it up I believe.

Bollocks

I gave my time / money / effort into doing something for the tsunami disaster.
I feel ripped off.

Like Scott if I had known this was going to the Katrina thing I wouldn\'t have been involved same as Im staying away from the other one.No offense meant but you lot are big enough to look after yourselves IMHO.

This place is starting to smell a bit off.

@Airhead....chillout man.I wasn\'t insinuating anyone would use the reciept for tax deduction purposes.

its not really bollocks to be honest

a bit of time painting a mini VS a natural disaster? I could see it if it had been a deliberate change or something... And for a start, I was part of the decision to choose the red cross, so you can\'t change it into an \'us & them\' thing dude! ;)

Yes, their government should be able to afford to deal with it all themselves, but they wont. You need to think of the individuals not the regime.

I can understand you may be pissed off though, but what\'s done is done, you gotta leave it alone and don\'t regret it.

@Rev: damn man, how did you know I was in admin ;)

It\'s obviously too late to do anything about this now it seems.

From the outset and throughout the promotion and wrangling and even in the blurb on the ebay listing.....The money SHOULD be going to the Tsunami appeal. They STILL need it.

I agree, I just dont feel that we should necessarily begrudge the individuals on the gulf coast receiving our aid.

First off, not all of us believe what our politicians are doing is right. We have no real control over them, on what kind of government spending that they do. Blah blah blah, a war in another country, I didn’t agree with in then, I don’t agree with it now. But we’re there, so we have to deal. As for the hurricane, politicians are Yapping about what the disaster people want to hear, regardless of when or if it will get done. Our national deficit in our county because of politician spending is it the trillions. In affect, they have spent ~ 35,000+ per person here in America, some where else, and we are the ones how are indebt because of them and we are paying it back not them.
A donation is a donation, and as for directing it to where you want it to go in such a large non profit is impossible. They will use the money as they deem fit, and even after donating, we do not know what Exactly they are using the funds for.
Be joyous that this had brought a community together, for a effort to help suffering people. You guys have pooled your talents, and have done a great thing that will probably never be surpassed in the art community. Don’t let a non profit organizations objectives ruin what great friendships that has developed, from then need to help others.
Good Job to you all.
