Hmmm.... would appear to be the case. If so, what a humungous f**k-up. Also, are GW going to double this final fee if this is the destination of the funds? I really really hope this isn\'t the case.

I am pretty shore they mean the start date of the auction not the finish as that is how all the promotional stuff for the auctions work. :idea:
I noticed that the first day of the Auction...
I was a little upset about it, but decided not to ruffle any feathers. I felt it would just stir up the few nay-sayers and curmudgeons with endless I-told-you-so\'s. What was actually stated was that any funds going to the American Red Cross could not be directed to any one relief effort, and would be spread around amongst all their good works.
The Red Cross is involved in OVER 1500 seperate projects worldwide, so I figure the Tsunami victims will get about $2.00.
I wonder how many of them that will feed?

Let me tell you there is a load I could say on this subject (as well as many other subjects in this project) now that it has ended. My silence here has been an ocean of energy that started within a week of the projects conception.
Now lets go back in time...

No, on 1/11 /2005 a press release was made and the charity was started as Brothers Brother (which was chosen because it would earmark funds for this specific disaster and got such good reviews by Forbes).....no one complained or apparently really read the thing ..i guess
though people translated it in what 4 languages... and if you read the translations you will see at that time it was brothers keeper
1/18/05 I received a letter from one of the organizers that has since left us stating they would pull out unless it was the Red Cross. It was at the time a very important person you all felt so I was quiet. I responded to many things that had happened to me a few hours later but this refers to the charity.
This quotes my letter 1/18/05 in response:
\"I put the information out there on the forum in the first thread. It was mentioned in the thread that the Red Cross would not ear mark funds for the disaster by another member of this project. Thus I looked for other options. The Forbes report was impressive to me so I posted the information. No one objected nor have they until now. It was posted on EO no neg response. People are concerned with whether their money is used wisely and this organization purchases medical equipment and pharmaceuticals not things to inspire Christianity.\"
In that letter I resigned from all help but the website and I remained that way until the project moved to DR\'s.
As far as the tax receipt the buyer gets that so they may file for the tax credit of their donation.
And as far as GW I feel sure they as well understand the Red Cross and the handling of the money heck the lawyers had to approve linking to the Paint Aid web site let alone where the money was going.

What Tracy said is unfortunately true word for word. Paint Aid has been extremely tiring for most of the people organising it. That is why the second edition will be smaller in size and run by one person.
I would like to thank everybody who participated (be it in painting, sculpting, the sponsors, betting, or making the final donation) and most of all a special big thanks to Mike and Tracy for going beyound what was necessary.
For a first edition, I think the result is a success. Just need to streamline some things.

Auction is over. Personally, I am a bit disappointed in several ways. I was in Virginia all weekend with no internet access, so I was out of the game ( I knew $3,000 would not hold up ). Second, I really figured $5,000+ on the sale.
The funny thing is that if I had won, I had decided to ask you to re-auction it for Katrina. I have some other ideas as to how to help there. Look for me on those threads in a bit.
Anywho.....I had committed to a donation of 10% of the sale price if I did not win the Ogre Army. Let\'s make it an even $400. I am pleased and proud to help.
For the record, I think all this money needs to go to the Tsunami Relief. I am quite sure it will dry up ( no pun intended ) since so much will now be diverted to the American Southeast.
Let me say again what a wonderful job I think the whole team has done. Congrats to the winner. Thanks for all the well wishes when I was deep in the bidding.

I seem to have opened a can of worms.
My view has always been that this is like using electricity, you might want to accept only electricity generated in an environmentally friendly matter, but at the end of the day it comes from great big pool of electricity generated by everything from wind to nuclear. you can\'t choose.
I guess (if it helps) that you are contributing to a pool of funds, mixed together that gives a pool of money able to be directed to several points. By donating this amount you up the pool, and reduce the risk of SE Asia being disadvantaged by the need to allocate funds at home (ie Katrina).
I\'ve probably expressed this poorly, but I believe that at a certain point we surrender control of what we do to others, and that point is near now.
On a related point. TAB, do we know the amount you are going to have to come up with yet for Paypal fees, should the buyer select that method of payment?
