If a girl is getting attacked dont shout rape or help no one will come, but shout fire instead.

Women get taught to do this at womens \'group sessions\' (dont know what they are called) and post rape therapy. Pretty wierd really, how poeple can be so ignorant about the violence that is going on around them, but if it ever happened to them they would expect all the help they could get.

Not saying it\'s always this... but one word... fear. people fear that if they get involved they are the ones who will get beat up instead or to. We had a teenager not to long ago here who came up for someone who was being molested.. and they kicked that guy to dead instead. Another guy who lectures a group of youths.. telling to stop harresing people and vandalising property... got beaten into brtain damage and dead the next morning with a helmet by that group.

It\'s a sad thing that violence has gotten so far that we don\'t dare to do the right thing in fear of getting killed/maimed/hurt. Nasty downwards spiral I think.

But all this said... I have to ad... 20 bystanders and noone does anything... not that is unbelievable. People are probably thinking... i don\'t wanna endager myself... i leave that to others... so noone acts.

Not terribly similar, but YEARS ago I came home from being at a friend\'s wedding, when I got to the front of the apartment building, there was a man slapping the holy hell out of a woman.

I stepped in and told her to run, while he clocked me for not paying attention to him.
I managed to see her run off as his combat boot caught me in the face. Don\'t remember much after that, but remembered being satisfied that she got away and I drew enough attention that he went the opposite direction.

Normally I\'m too nervous to do anything like that, as I\'m not a fighter at all, but sometimes something needs to be done.

It IS fun to get on local transit and see a pretty girl being harrassed by an older drunk man...wave to her, call her some name that pops into your head, say \"haven\'t seen you in awhile\" and sit down next to her.

The look of relief on her face was priceless as the drunk stopped talking to her.;)

Hey MPJ, It is my first impulse to call the cops if something goes bad... fear or not, gotta do the right thing. Glad you fired the emplyee, and hope you and your wife can put it behind you.

Though I agree you shouldnt have gotten out of you truck (a 2000+lb weapon) and I would not expect a passenger to either... the fact that he didnt call 911 OR drive you to the hospital.... Damn dude Id go one on one with HIM for it. The fact that he didnt even write a statememnt... that\'s just cowardice.

Been through a trauma or two... ever need to talk... pm me... ranting like this is great therapy, but it works better if someone can respond:D

Be interesting to see how this pans out. My guess is he will say he was defending himself against the gorilla who climbed out of the truck to attack him. Wouldn\'t be surprised if he claimed you had the hammer when you got out.

Don\'t judge your prosecutor by the phone conference. Doing that job I rarely have the time to meet witnesses face to face before the day of the contest, and unlike you he hasn\'t felt the fear pain and adrenalin you experienced. He is reconstructing events from pieces of paper and occasionally the reconstruction bears little relationship to reality, particularly when the rules of evidence come into play.

Thanks, very kind of you to offer. Might be an odd thing but I find it easier talking to total strangers than friends and family. That being said I\'d probablly have put it long behind me (I\'m not one to dwell) if the wifie also could/would but a year and a half later she still gets bad dreams about it.

I suppose I might not be as over it as I like to think, last night I was outside doing the soffit on my house at 11:00pm, that can\'t be normal (the soffit BTW for those that don\'t know is the underpart of where the roof edge hangs past the outside wall). Much of it is the upcoming court thingie.

I\'ll let y\'all know how things work out on Friday. It\'s my understanding from the court process that sentencing is not done then (assuming guilty) but I think there should at least be a verdict. Jail time is unlikely however even though this guy is a known POS to the police and has been arrested several times since this incident (including brought in on a gang rape charge I\'m told). Case just concluded the other day where a young twit beat the crap out of a cop and took his gun, he only got 3 years of probation (no jail time) so I\'m no longer expecting any from my case. Gotta love the system.

I find that extremely weird... In my country (Denmark) You get 20 days in the slammer JUST for Hitting a guy once! In uncontrolled rage!

The kind of assault you were subject to must, at least, give half-a-year in jail!
:flame: Everything else would be weird!

If he doesnt get any kind of serius punishment then only one thing remains: :cussing:

MPJ, hats off to you for not putting up with such harassment. I hope your testimony leads to some sort of punishment for that twit. Glad you survived the encounter.

11 hours till show time and my stomach is doing summersalts... summersalts... sommersaults... Backflips!

I normally don\'t get nervous but the thought of sitting on the stand doesn\'t sit well with me. I\'m not afraid of the accused, in fact my dream punishment would be 10 min in a small room with him, but the thought of being on that stand is making me feel ill. Aparentlly 80ish% of these guys change their plea to guilty when they see the witnesses show up so I\'m hoping, but then again if he changes his plea they might give him a lesser sentance so I\'m mixed on that one.

Now the new big decision... Do I sit up all night rating minis or try for a good night sleep. Who am I kidding, if there is one thing in this world I do exceptionally well it would be sleeping so at least I find it unlikely to lose any.

I\'d take some \'glocoma medicine\' but wifie is pregnant and it wouldn\'t be fair to her. :drunk:

similar story

That really sucks. I don\'t know if I would have got out, I\'m not much for defending myself, but if someone else were getting hurt I probably would have (I would have been the guys who pulled up at the end). I have defended people in similar situations and fortunately the \'attackers\' fled or backed down in every instance, so I\'ve been lucky.

Similar story - A friend of mine was walking home from work and decided to cut through the \'bad\' section of town to save some time. A carload of youths drove by and threw some liquid out the window and got it all over him (soda?). So he gave them the finger, and they turned around and ran him over! Fortunately for him, a car with two girls happened to be passing by and picked him up and took him to the hospital, where he stayed for 3 months because of his extensive injuries. The girls got the plate number of the car and the thugs were arressted, but get this - If he presssed charges THEIR auto insurance WOULDN\'T cover his medical bills, because they only cover ACCIDENTS! So he had to drop the charges, and in the long run he sued the insurance company and got a decent settlement, but he still walks with a bad limp. The only thing his attackers got was a raised insurance premium. The law doesn\'t protect the innocent, so I hope your day in court goes better.

P.S.- As an interesting side note, my friend is white, and the guys in the car black. I asked him if he hated blacks now, and he said \"no\", because the girls who helped him were BLACK and even got the plate number for him. So it just goes to show there aren\'t bad colors, just bad people.
