how do you get the blacklining on the shield designs so straight?? is it a textured line or just black?

*sigh* i can never get straight lines on my designs and it just ruins the models!

The black lines on the shields are all painted on by hand. The trick is how you brace your hands together.

I have very shaky hands. What I do is I brace both my wrists against the table edge, and brace the fingers of my right hand (which holds the brush) against my left hand while I paint. It makes it so I can get the brush very steady. :)

Got six more of the horses finished. The riders have been started, and should be glued to the horses tomorrow.

I painted a variety of breeds. I like painting horses for that reason. Lots of variety, but with the saddles and riders painted similar it ties everything together nicely.

Very clean work! I\'m liking these horses a lot (coincidentally, I was just listening to the Stones\' \"Wild Horses\" ;)).

C&C my WIP?

I\'ve still got some of the old metal archers, they were great models too, and I actually finished painting them lol got a bit stuck on the knights though :(

Cheers for the comments :)

I really love the old metal archers. I was really disappointed when GW stopped doing bits orders. I wanted to order a bunch of the classic figures but kept putting it off, and now I can\'t even get them!

wow, they\'re truly beautiful! This is going to be like having a subscription to miniature eye candy until you\'re finished!

Are you going to \'reward\' yourself with a character for every 50 core troops? :)

This is really going to be one impressive army once it\'s finished, keep up the good work!

I just may reward myself with a character after the yeomen are finished. :D Or I could work on the trebuchet. That\'s a fun kit (aside from the building part!).

The first 5 yeomen are finished. Since I paint the riders separate from the horses, I use a pin vice to hold them while I paint them. Unfortunately I only have 3, so I can only paint 3 riders at a time. I think I\'ll pick up a few more, for when I start all the knights, that way I can paint 5 or so at a time.

Those minis are awesome. I\'m also amazed at the speed in which you can rip through them, while still keeping a very high standard.

How much do you charge per mini for that sort of standard?

Thanks for the comments guys :)

Olaf: The price can vary depending on the model and any bulk discounts, but you can find the base pricing on my website here These models are known as \"level 3\" quality.

Yowzers! The guy who commissioned you must have some free cash to spare.

I definitely think he is getting his money\'s worth but if you\'re doing 4000 points worth of minis that\'s going to cost a fair bit!

On a slightly different note, how exactly did you go about painting the shields? They look really good.

I have some Brettonian minis from the old Warhammer boxed set (Lizardmen vs Brettonians) to paint up. I imagine the technique would work for both shields and the barded horses.

Shields:

I started from a black undercoat, and then painted the yellow sections of the shield with several thin coats of Vomit Brown, in order to end up with a smooth final result. Be patient with this, so that it ends up as smooth as possible. Painting 10 or so at a time is good, because the first layer is dry by the time you get to the 10th miniature, and you can apply the second thin coat of VB, followed by the third, etc...

Then Golden Yellow was thinned down, about 50/50 with water, and painted onto the edges of the sections. Since yellow is very transparent there is still some of the basecoat showing through. Once that dried, I highlighted again with golden yellow, the stroke being slightly less wide.

Next I painted on some slightly thinned Sunburst Yellow on the edges. Finally, Skull White was mixed in with the Sunburst Yellow and painted on the top edges of the sections.

I then took some Chaos Black and touched up the areas that were to be green, making sure lines were crisp. Then I painted the black areas with Dark Angels Green, making sure to leave a very thin black line between the segments.

I have a spare mixing pot filled with 50/50 Dark Angels Green and Snot Green. This was used on the edges, painted in a broad line. Snot Green was used on it\'s own next. Finally, thinned Scorpion Green was very sparingly used on the top edges of the green sections.

I took some thinned Chaos Black and touched up the line between the sections.

Hope this helps! :)

Correct. Keep in mind that Vomit Brown is not very bright, so the bright yellow on the edges is important for making the color appear yellow. :)
