Here\'s the unit so far. Only 4 more yeomen to go, then it will be time for a character or two!

This is looking to be an army that drops jaws when put on the table.

If the normal troops are so good, i wonder how good the characters will look

Wow

This is an epic standard for gaming, you\'ve inspired me for an army project i\'m about to start too! Cheers!

Great stuff, Matt! How much of the army is left after all of these guys? I imagine you\'re anxious to get them done!

Thanks for the comments guys :)

The characters will be painted with my showcase/competition quality. :D

As far as what\'s left, there\'s still a lot. Off the top of my head there are 6 or so characters, 20 more men at arms, several units of archers, a trebuchet, a unit of questing knights, pegasus knights, grail knights, and 4 or 5 knights of the realm units. There\'s probably more that I forgot, the army list is in the other room. lol

Well geez, you have a lot on your plate. If you were of age, I\'d buy you a beer for your troubles! Hopefully you don\'t go into sheer madness before the summer\'s up.

I\'ll be interested to see the characters come up though. Keep at it

Are those all stock models from the Bret. regiment sets? They all look very dynamic together with a wide variety of poses, aka rather nice for boxed units.

Yes they are all stock. :) I really love how they seem to interact with each other, some appear to be turning to one side to talk to the soldier next to them!

Unfortunately they are all the older 5th and 6th edition models, and Games Workshop no longer sells them via bits order. :( I find that these older figures are much more dynamic and full of character than the newer stuff GW seems to put out.

Okay that makes more sense then. I was just thinking they looked a lot nicer and more dynamic then any other Brets I have seen. All I\'ve really noticed are the newest ones for whatever edition is out now, plus the really old ones that came with the boxed set with the Lizardmen (recently got a copy of that edition from a Friend moving to another city with no room for old soldiers).

Here\'s the recipes for the horses: :)

White primer for all of them. I did a few extra layers in between each of the colors listed to make them look blended.

1. Bleached Bone basecoat, shade with Gryphonne Sepia, HL with Bleached Bone, HL Skull White

2. Desert Yellow basecoat, Gryphonne Sepia shade, HL Desert Yellow, HL Bleached Bone

3. BC with Calthan Brown, shade with Devlan Mud, HL Calthan Brown, HL Calthan Brown + Bleached Bone

4. BC Scorched Brown, Shade with Badab Black, HL Scorched Brown, HL Scorched Brown + Bestial Brown (one of the other horses used Snakebite Leather to highlight rather than Bestial Brown).

5. BC Fortress Grey + Skull White (I have a pot of this mixed), Shade with Codex Grey, HL Fortress + White mix, HL Skull White.

6. BC Codex Grey, shade Badab Black, HL Codex Grey, HL Fortress Grey, spots on the back added with Fortress Grey + Skull White mix.

The tails were painted with the same color recipes, just mixed around between horses. A couple of the dark ones have black hair, which was basecoated with Chaos Black + Codex Grey mix, Shaded twice with Badab Black, then highlighted with that mix, then highlighted with Codex Grey.

Hope this helps! :)

Finally have the unit of 14 Yeomen finished! Here it is: (much larger images this time, so you can actually see stuff!) :)

And here is the next piece I will be working on. A few mold lines made themselves apparent after I primed it, don\'t you hate it when that happens? lol

V useful - I\'m back from my trip now and looking to start my Brets soon too.

Thanks for the recipes for the horses! Do you apply the washes all over the skin or just in the recesses?

Awesome :) Make sure to post a wip!

I put the wash just in the recesses. Some colors (such as Desert Yellow) don\'t cover so well over anything but white, so I like to do as little touching-up as possible.

It doesn\'t matter so much with the darker horses though, just the light ones.

Matt, these guys are looking great. Can you post your recipes for the leather on the yeoman riders and the \'white\' on them as well?

Are you just layering the highlights and shades right on or are you using some intermediary layers to smooth transitions?

Really looking forward to seeing more of this come together. Particularly when you get to the KOTR units. Will the KOTR have a unified color scheme or will they all have their own heraldry?

I use layering, but do a few intermediary layers in between. I\'ll list all the stages I do. I also do a little of the \"feathering\" technique to blend slightly.

Boots and hats:
-Scorched Brown basecoat
-shade with Badab Black wash
-HL Scorched Brown
-HL Scorched Brown + Calthan Brown
-HL Calthan Brown
-HL Calthan Brown + Tallarn Flesh.

Belts, straps, and leg armor:
-Scorched Brown basecoat
-Shade with Badab Black wash
-HL Scorched Brown
-HL Dark Flesh
-HL Vermin Brown

White:
-Basecoat P3 Menoth White Base (this is identical to bleached bone, but it covers better)
-Shade with Gryphonne Sepia wash
-HL Menoth White Base
-HL Menoth White Base + Skull White
-HL Skull White

The knights will all have 3 unified schemes (yellow/green, yellow/blue, and white/blue) Their colors will be the same per unit, but the heraldry will vary (similar to the Men-at-Arms shields, different shapes and patterns). There is also one unit of Knights that will have totally unique heraldry from the rest.

Thanks for the interest :)

Here\'s the character so far. I nearly went insane painting that checkered pattern. Now I know how all the harlequin-painters feel! lol

I\'m not sure what color to paint the inside of the cloak, right now I\'m thinking black.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the metallics came out really funky looking in the picture. I\'ll have to throw some dullcote on him for the next shots, and pay attention to where my lamps are.
