Well, I was actually talking about the aesthetics of the two separate dioramas. One is a pretty high quality, really well conceived and gritty, if not disturbing bit of scene setting. The other is a tedious, tacky and tasteless pile o' shite, that really does nothing for either this website or the 'artist'.... I'm sure you can guess which is which. But hey! As long as there's a market for it ;)

I do think that this comment is out of line. You don't have to like the mini but a personal attack on me as the artist is not very mature either. You had said your piece, I respectfully disagreed and I do feel that you are getting angry/irrate/down right mean for really no reason. Most people seem to have taken it for what it is . . . a piece of light hearted inappropriate fun.

It wasn't meant to be a serious piece of art. It was meant to be tacky and funny. No one is forcing you to look at it or even comment on it.

Avelorn has it right--your comment is only damaging to you. It makes me sad to see you reacting like this and lashing out at . . . what exactly? It really doesn't benefit anyone.

Beezle, there's a clearly definitive line between disagreement and being an utter cock, guess which is which? Wind it in, that's entirely uncalled for, I agree with Avelorn.

I didn't say the painting was shite... I actually said it was quite good. The concept, however, is imo crap and tacky and as you are the artist and it's your creation, then the comment is naturally going to be aimed at you. It's not a slurr on your painting ability (probably more that your painting skills are wasted on this wonderless wankfest :) ). If you post stuff that is explicit... expect a critical reaction perhaps?... that's all!

BTW... I'm not remotely angry or irate. Why would i be. An nothing I have said is a personal attack!

*edit whereas calling someone an utter cock is most definitely a personal attack lol

It's entirely possible to be "critical" without being expressively offensive. As someone who's had to tread on eggshells for being largely outspoken I can appreciate that, so when people make crass remarks like that about someone elses work in the manner you have I do find it out of line. The general consensus would indicate i'm not the only one who thinks so. There's a huge difference between saying "I find this distasteful" and "What a pile of steaming shite!". I couldn't care less if you find it distasteful, that's your opinion, but I think an apology is due for the way you conducted your view!

Ed* By your own admission, you perceived your comment to be of such behaviour that it was entirely warranted. There was a choice you know. Need I say more?

no you said it was a tedious, tacky pile o shite. So how am I supposed to take that? How is it a pile of shit? especially when you are saying the other piece is well painted. To me that translates to that you think it's not painted well.

then when you put artist in quotes--again how am I supposed to take that? Other than you don't think I'm an artist? That to me comes across as a bit of a personal attack.

Regardless, your comment was overly harsh whether you meant it to come across that way or not.

Anyway, I don't feel that my skill was wasted on this piece. I had fun painting it and clearly some people out there want it since it's doing so well on eBay. I paint not only for my personal enjoyment but also to make money. Sex sells. In all industries. This is probably the best piece in terms of sale price on eBay I've had yet in the 3 years I've been selling my work.

Plenty of other artists out there also paint this kind of stuff an hey, someone has to sculpt it? There will always be a market for sex. The sex industry is the oldest in the world after all. So, civilization has not moved on. It never will. As long as people have libidos this will be on the market.

Out of curiosity--is it more of a waste of my skill to paint something like this to a high standard or to paint tabletop all the time? Personally, I feel my skill is wasted when I paint tabletop. But something has to pay the bills . . . I have more fun with display pieces myself even if it is a piece filled with gratuitous nudity.

...and as I have said several times. I think the execution is quite good. This supports the talent and ability of the painter.

The criticism is aimed at the content of the work. If someone is going to post tasteless porn-like images then expect a bit of flak maybe?!?

No apology here I'm afraid!

Mm k then. To each their own.

Expect to see more of this kind of stuff from me though. If it keeps selling then I'm gonna keep painting it. And I'd appreciate you not calling my work a pile of shit. Doesn't look good.

And flak--I expected it. Just not in the wordings you used maybe, a bit extreme and unnecessary.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone! I am logging off of CMoN for the holidays!

Ok, allright....Let's move on now shall we?

I understand both viewpoints, and I also understand that sometimes we get caught up in intentions that cannot be aptly expressed in just a printed word.

Regardless, lets just drop it please. I think everyone's had their say on the issue.

In that respect I can take that and apply it to any sculpt I don't like, right? "Hey buddy, nice paint job, but it's actually a steaming pile of wank". If i'd said that to you, or posted it in your gallery, are you seriously trying to tell me you wouldn't take offence? Even if you didn't you're missing the essential point of it all, the majority of people here would. This isn't a private exclusive club where you can throw shit like a monkey at a zoo without giving a crap about the consequences. I've been cuffed by mods for behaviour on this site and i'd never think about rocking the boat with statements like that out of the sheer concept of common courtesy!

I was writing that the same time you'd posted Vikey. I fear your Mod-fu, I hear you took out your predecessor with a mean ass ctr+alt+delete chokehold!

Possibly not nearly as controversial a question, but...

Were you going for a windburnt effect on Santa's face? I get the distinct impression of being windburnt.

Cassar's concisely nailed it for me. Saucy postcard, of the more explicit variety, which always seem to raise a chuckle or an eyebrow, without much room inbetween :) Oddly it's the same reason I'm not keen on the other "controversial" piece doing the rounds at the mo, a touch too much cheesecake frivolity to my initial reading to feel comfortable upon realising the wider intent. I think this is a more succesful piece than that but would have prefered to see Sophie proffering her rear to Santa, with him looking down a little, than the current arrangement. We'd have been able to see both of their faces from the "front" of the scene that way too.

I think Father Christmas's face is one of the nicest you've done Meg, particularly good to see you able to do nice eyes without those huge Klocke ones that take up most of the face ;) Has the teddy just got black buttons for eyes? A touch of green might have sat nicely?

Anyhow, rather like Beelzebrush, not my cup of tea but a skillfully produced piece & I'm all for seeing as wide a range of work as possible. Interesting to hear about the level of Ebay interest. I'd far rather see you painting this kind of thing in the Gallery than a couple of other sellers who churn this stuff out to a far lower level, on far nastier miniatures, anyday :)

Cheers, B.

@Id--blushing from walking in on Sophie, the cold air on his face and a little big o' that egg nog at work I'd say! Makes for a very rosy Santa. :)

@BPI--thanks for the words. I appreciate it. I realize this isn't everyone's cup of tea. Glad you can still appreciate the paint job on it though. And as for wanting to see Sophie offering her rear to someone--just you wait. I have more of these little dioramas planned. This was a quick "hey I should do that" thought when I was painting Santa due to his surprised expression.

now thats how to express an opinion kudos to you bpi. i think expressing an opinion with swear words undermines the validity of a supposedly moral argument, also if someone spoke to me in that manner i wouldnt be at all pleased, might even have to give them a darned good thrashing. the english language is an eloquent and vastly descriptive one, people should be able to express their opinions without having to resort to language that can be largly construed as insulting, i would say this in summary "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" HAPPY CHRISTMAS, good will to all.
