SCULPTING-works in progress

My latest work, which i guess should go in here as it is mainly the sculpting that might be of interest

I spent a fair while with a dremel and saw attacking Brother Captain Stern, until there was not much left then I resculpted lots of bits and have got abot this far now.

I painted the face which is a separate bit when i was bored and think it is probably the best one I have done yet.

The putty is a mix of Green and Brown stuffs which was then accidentally burnt with my lamp in an attempt to speed up the cure time.

I apologise for the low quality photos my good lamp is in my room at Uni so i have to work with not much.

I welcome your comments and critiques.

@El Guardian - Superb! The gladiator dude is really shaping up. You may have already said earlier but, is the white stuff milliput, Aves, Magic Sculp or something else? It\'s looking terrific!

@Marmoset - great work on the tendril/spiny things! I always squish stuff like that when I\'m working on other areas.

@abstract incendiarie - cool conversion work. The armor looks spot on.

Neat stuff!

@Patrick: the white stuff, more like ochre really, is FIMO actually

@abstract: i must say that looks like it had an awful lot of work on it, amazing

@ El Guardian - looking good I like the plating on the feet and legs.

I know who it is also, it must be Russel Crow cause at the moment it\'s a Dick Head.lol

(childish i know)

Another update on my gladiator buddy, very proud of the right arm, its almost finished just the hads/weapons/shield/head to be finished

Im starting with the helmet right now, its gonig to be a modified version of the Thracian helmet, just with a kind of gasmask and a bit more dinamic

very cool. i love those classic look ogres.

@el - it\'s great to see that guy coming along

here is a little offering of my own. an experiment into different putties as you can tell by his multi coloured appearance. just need to seal the bottom (the armature is still visible) and base him. assuming i see no more rough bits first!

Wow that looks great Klute!

And El guardian as I\'ve said before I\'m a big fan of your smooth style, that gladiator looks quite awesome.

I have a question for the more experienced sculptors, you see I\'m going to sculpt a few minis for casting and was wondering if I should give them separate arms or just separate weapons.

Here\'s a pic of the first three armatures, they\'re going to be armed with pikes if you wonder:

Do they look like they could be cast in one piece or should I cut off the right arms?

Cheers.

I would sculpt the figures full with arms and hands. They dont extend from the body far.
Give them \"cupped\" hands and you will be able to glue the pikes on.
Bit like this.

Heheh, you know there is just one thing about the Jersey Devil that bothers me.

...IT\'S STILL IN BRITAIN!!!

...Okay, I feel better now. I seriously love that piece. Cant wait to put him on the market.

Thanks for the advice! Still, wouldn\'t it be better to have the hands sculpted on the pikes, I reckon it would be easier to get a firm grip that way.. then again I\'d have to build more pikes if I did that..

Well thats the whole idea behind leaving the hands on the figure I reckon. It makes it easier just to have one generic weapon. Hands sculpted on the weapon would look better for the hands though.

i decided today to stop using Gs and Fimo only for closing holes and making bases :D

so, due i\'m painting a nefarius clone, that comes with two heads, i decided to use the spare head to start my first attempt at sculpting anything...:D

the muscles are a little rushed because most of them will be covered with a striped armour (i don\'t have any clue to how make it... but i\'ll try)

@ Tony...that\'s lookng cool as is the paint on the clone....can\'t wait to see more pics of both..btw is there a gallery or weblink for more of your stuff??? I\'ve been reading the centuriou clone tutorial you\'ve done as I am venturing into the world of rackham myself...cheers and love it..
@quadrille I agree with Klute Generic weapon and mould the hands on the model..If you cup them it is easy rom a modellers viewpoint to close hands round the weapon and alo adjust height and angle of pikes in formation that way..
