But seriously, if you've got a full figure, take advantage of even a small base and give the viewer a reason to look closer. It's those little details that turn a well painted piece into something people will still remember after the show. And we're on for some pho next Crystal Brush!
I agree with BFK, while you could do really white columns, this color looks fine to me. And, while the wealthy cities may have had plenty of shiny white marble, others would have made do with whatever stone they could get. This guy is equipped in an older style, close to the time of the Persian war. That's roughly 30-50 years before Athens rose to the height of its power. So more white or beige, it's up to you. In my opinion neither is necessarily right or wrong.
