So I'm sSTILL WAITING FOR MY BOTTLES OF RUM AND MY CUP. I've decided that the trausure chest and the pier buoy will be what will bulk out the right side and along with some bottles of rum.heres what I'm going with.less is more and it doesn't obscure the worm wood detail I've done on the ladder in the posterior stay tuned...everything I have left WILL BE GOING ON MY VIKMG MOVEMENT TRAY DIO. A CHEST OF TRASURE ,SHEILDS ,AXES AND DISCARDED WEAPONS AND A BARREL MAYBE.hang tight as we approach the finish line with my entries to crystal brush.View attachment 44856

I am completely on board (pun only mildly intended) with the "less is more" approach to José the Pirate (I decided he needed a name). The few items you have in mind set the scene without overwhelming the great painting. Perfecto!

Looks awesome Papa but I think the buoy and the box are too white dude . Don't focus on the whole scene and just quickly scan your eyes over the pic rely quick and all you see is the white of the box and buoy. The ship is dark and pirate Pete is quite dark .

My girl came in clutch for me with this Lil device. Ill be layering some more glazes in tomorrow as well as , you guessed it BLOOD !!! Stay tuned you bilge rats and man your brushes you seafaring scumb!!! Lol sorry git carried away fer a minute.

Coming to a close !!! Here's the fully painted and ready to go Portuguese pirate . Still waiting for a bottle if I can sneak it on realistically it's a hay if not a nay. The last photo is why I paint so fast so well everybody uses wet palettes . What I've always used were dry well palletes. Now the more wells the more intermediate layering and blending I can do as I line all my colors out first and with dry retardant. This what your seeing is Ine if my Christmass present from my sweetheart. It's a 22 well porcelain dry well pallete. Here's the trick the wells because they are micro sized I can gauge how diluted my paint should be by how fast It falls down the side of the well once it's been dragged up the side by the brush. Their you have it folks. My trade secret !!!!;)) stay tuned .

Yay someone else who uses dry well palettes! :D I've tried a wet palette and never really got into it. I just seem to prefer my porcelain palette (it's actually a repurposed escargot dish - much cheaper than a palette from the art shop). I can definitely see the point of wet palettes and may try one again, but I have a better feel for what the paint is doing in my dry palette.

I'm like BAM! This can only be good for me (and probably bad for poor BAM...)

Your new palette looks very cool (well done Janet) and the smaller wells mean that the paint dries slightly slower with a smaller surface area for evaporation I would imagine.

EDIT: José is also looking very impressive my friend. As I mentioned a few posts ago, the extra details give great context without overwhelming your fabulous painting.

Thank you arch .. Yes I've used dry palletes most of my career and the more wells the more colors I can have ready to wet on wet the blending. This works for me others may not like it! Hey if we were all drs there would be no paitiants folks .... Yeah?! So yes IM LIKE THE NINJA!!!this is good for both of us shels! And yes yes yes I'm glad a viewer who appreciates well painted models like my historical piece. You all know I've worked hard on him then on his base then in his details. Back and fourth back and fourth. Between my Vikings ,my relaxing pieces and then my pirate. So here it is now you all know why I'm fast and how I do it. Enjoy as I have a few more pics from Janet ...the proper kind coming up. This will be under more extreme lighting.

Are those GW brushes I spy? I like their dry brushes and got myself a detail brush the other day from my hobby shop on a whim. I must say that I'm quite impressed with it. It hold its shape well so far and responds nicely.

And you know I appreciate your work! This WIP is just great inspiration. :)

I am in awe....

...and also jealous of that pallette. I am trying a new wet pallet on Maug and having better success than the last time I tried. But I think I will be sticking with the welled pallette most if the time. I probably waste a lot of paint since I paint slow, but I think I have better control of the paint in the well.

Looks great, BAM. I'm a wet palette guy, but you make the well palette work very effectively. I have a feeling this guy is going to be a medal winner at CB.

Bailey thanks so much man..I'm keeping fingers crossed.you never know who might show up at these freakin shows...Lololololol maybe they'll stay home...whoo Hoooo lol
