One can learn a lot by looking at how you do your skin tones. Very creative and you show how any colors can work to leave a nice finish. Like on this last project, you base it with what looks like a lightened version of dark sea blue. However, the final look doesn't really include that much of that blue because your subsequent glaze layers really change the final appearance.
Just another thing I've picked up from observing your work. I have probably learned as much from watching you than anyone else...

cheers mate, there is a little dark sea blue in the shading mix but i believe most of it will disappear after i hit it with glazes.
anyway, in this last picture you can get an idea how i progress. i start with a rough wetblending, shown on the left leg on the mini and then follow up with glazes.
colors used on the skin are greatcoat grey (P3) base, dark sea blue (vmc), scorched brown(gw), smoke(vmc), burbonic brown(gw), lich purple(gw), black red...(vmc), menoth white (p3). +black&white.

Ah, thanks for that! The greatcoat gray, then: that's the starting color that really influences all of your glazes but doesn't actually look that prominent in the end. In other words, it seems like an odd choice at first but you end up making it look so damn good. As for the rest of your colors, I can now see each and every one of them. Your shading has always been your overwhelming strength, to me. You always pick the mixes very well. Your red-black shading is signature SkeletetteS. Call me inspired, I must go paint something...

This is exactly what I mean by educating myself from your basecoats. The finished product you are describing above may be found on page 181 of this thread. You began with a red basecoat and somehow, someway ended up with an NMM gold. I assure you that no one else in the biz does their gold NMM in this manner. You are incredible, my friend.

ty friends for not keeping this thread stone cold dead while i was gone. back to work and real life now, at least that means more wasting time on forum. heh.
some painting has been made during the holidays, but im still unsure what "goal" i will have now. honestly painting for the GD's was a big carrot for me and with the shit more or less gone (could write another rant about this, but will not) i feel a bit *hmmmmm*.
so i finished ulsor, lost interest with the base so i moved on saving it for later, but here are some pictures of just the mini.

The loss of GD really killed my drive more than anything. Then family trouble started, but now I'm starting to get back at it.

Looks like he's jumping off the cover of a comic book. Awesome work.
I definitely see the value of competition, but I have to say I'm eager to see what a painter of your caliber might produce without the GD constraints. I hope you find an artistic or competitive direction that provides the focus and purpose you need.

SaintToad, the corvus corax range is supposed to be marvel meets fantasy so yeah about the comic book look this guy is fantasy juggernaut.
i actually like the gd restrictions, as all people have to to their best within the limitations. people can come up with some really imaginative ideas on just a little squared base.
10ball i know GD probably is this year (hopefully in summer time!) but even so for me the small GD's beaten up the magic a bit.

Okay so i painted the pesky little bowman from Salute 2015, lost pretty much interest after the head so it ended up tabletop standard but at least its done. pretty much impossible to do something interesting with this miniature, at least without some cool conversion. anyway!

I know what you mean about GD going, you lose the need to push yourself a bit. I realise there is Salute, Euro and hussar etc, but GD was the one i have wanted to win since i was about 12, and it going a bit odd of late made me lose the desire to paint (the iffy judging at the space marine one didnt help after some £400 just to get there...twitch).
I have gone completely the other way, our club we run is doing a thing of 120 miniatures for 2016, so you have to paint and blog (pics on FB page) of your progress, this is for all levels, and i have chosen to do Age of Sigmar, as i had the starter set anyway and the new getting started boxes i got for a very good price, so now have some 50 AoS chaos guys to paint up as a Khorne warband
Dont know if its going to be high tabletop or display standard for all of it, but i want to finish it to have something finished.
No competitions this year unless i can sneak in Euro for the first time after my wedding
