So, how long have YOU been painting figures?

The earlier topic of getting old made me think about how long I\'ve been painting figures and was shocked to realize that next year will be my 30 year anniversary!!

Got started in 78 after getting introduced to D&D. I think it was a set of Heritage Lord of the Rings figs. Used to paint with my model enamels and whatever else was handy. Not like there was an internet back then, so it wasn\'t as easy as it is today to pick up tips/tricks/inspiration! Kids these days have it so easy. ;)

Didn\'t get \'serious\' until I was stationed in Germany in 87, and have been slowly improving ever since (painting wise anyway). :D

On and off sine I was 10 (mid 1980s). If I subtract a couple of lengthy pauses I\'d say I\'ve been painting for about 12-15 years.

Same as Ritual for me... I started when I was about 14 or 15 (mid 80\'s) and got serious in the mid 90\'s. Then I discovered mini-painter and Dominic Heutelbeck\'s site on the WEEB in 2001 and I got much better (IMHO).

I started at about 5ish by painting my plastic toy solgiers with my dads testors model paints, discovered my first 25mm lead mini about 6 years later (1981ish) at a flea market with my mom and have loved the hobby ever since. So while I like to say I\'ve been doing it for 30 years it\'s more like 25 for \'real\' minis. There have been many breaks over the years but painting has never been far from my thoughts.

I think I probably painted my first miniature in the mid-late 80\'s. \"Ral Partha FTW\" back then, mostly Reptiliads and random medieval fantasy type stuff. I still have some of those figures, waiting for a new life with good paints and loving layers :)

But I took a pretty long break during school... then I graduated, stopped spending 23 hours a day in the lab, rediscovered my hobbies, and found this place :)

Well, I started in 1997 with the boxed set of Warhammer Quest... then took a break (not on purpose) from 2000 to around October 2005 when I found CMoN and started painting again and staying strong now, so really almost 5 years total... :drunk:

Started in 1987 with Talisman figures (although the very first figs I painted were a couple of Chaos Warriors)

My cousin (he\'s on here as Danmonkey2000) introduced me to Warhammer when I was about 10 I think. I went without painting for a year or so, and also have lengthy pauses, so i don\'t really know how long I\'ve actually been painting lol

Didn\'t realize you were THAT old!! :D

Guess there\'s a few more figure makers than there were back then! Just outta curiosity - what did you start with? Historex? Airfix?

you\'d have to be a mathematician to understand numbers that high.;)

I should mention age 14ish was about when I first painted a figure.

I\'d been buying them for a couple of years before that.

I\'ve been painting off and on for 14 years.

wouldn\'t think it, by the actual amount i\'ve got painted. As I prgressed in skill I used to throw the old ones out.
