Wow! I hear there is some guy (David something?) teaching a workshop on how to make your bases look cool like this. Maybe you should do a workshop too?! :p

Amazing (as always)! I really like how you combined the painting and water effects to get the waves.

Sproket has ascended. No longer is he shackled to this mortal plane of existence. I mean you defy this hobby man. Incredible.

Thanks guys!
Putting together all the elements for Gutrot is pretty nerve racking and there is a lot that can go wrong so It's reassuring to get such a positive response! I'm really looking forward to finishing this one off I've been working on it for nearly a year now!!

He's that little fat bald bloke who hides his crappy painting under layers of water effects and baking soda - personally I'm not impressed.

Really nice base!!! Love the colour combinations and of course the water effect.
Willing to share how you made that "bubbly" water? With lighter - plastic techinque?
I'm thinking quit a time for something similar as I will need it for my sirena base...It will be a surfboard sitting on a bubble column (so far the plan)
I came only up with stirring up resin or silicone to get air bubbles into it...your method seems more sophisticated :)

I'm sure he will tell you, but I think the most common way to get little bubbles of various sizes in water is to use little clear plastic or glass beads, then layer over with what ever water effect you are using. I'm guessing that's what he did, but that is one way of doing it that i have read about.

Looking at this again could something be changed about the nurgling's horns they seem a bit bland compared to the rest of the model to me? Feel free to ignore :)

Hmm...I looked some more on it.
The little Nurglings seems to stand with one foot in the air?
And maybe it would look great if he had wet feet or water/slime running down the side of the boat where he sits?
If the boat would stream forward there would be more waves/water stirup at the bow and it would overall look more wet on that area!?

Just my humble input Sproket. Hope I get to your level of painting one day. :)

It's a combination of the lighter - plastic techinque (although I used a tealight), GW water effects and clear microbeads. I'll be putting together a proper step-by-step guide in the near future.

I took ages getting a smooth graduation but you are quite right they did look a bit bland. I've added a few highlights and that helps although it's worth remembering that this will only be a very tiny detail on the finished piece. I don't want to overdo the additional bits and bobs.

Nice idea about the nurgling but I'm going to leave as is for the time being - there is a real danger of overdoing the details at this stage.
I actually had more of the water effects going on around the front of the boat when I first did it. I thought it looked busy and drew too much attention so I picked a lot of it back off!

There is a bit of a theme here around the details on the base. It's a tricky ballancing act between doing the job properly and going over the top. I've a bit of history with going OTT on bases so I'm veering on the side of caution. I'll live with it for a bit and then see if I want to add more work to the base later on. As GW are giving us some extra time untill Golden Demon I might as well use it.
