Further news:
Went to visit the ortho on Wednesday. He set us up for surgery at 0800 on Thursday (yesterday). We had a few stops on the way home (her clients).
When we got home, there was a message on the machine - her surgery was to be at 1730 (5:50 in the evening) - show up at the hospital at 3:30. No problem.
Well, for an 8:00 surgery, she was NPO (no food or liquid) after midnight. (8 hours of fast) A bit of quick math and we figured it was ok for a bit of breakfast. (7:30 to 5:30 or still 10 hours of fasting).
The surgeon\'s office calls to check on her yesterday morning, asks how she\'s doing and if she\'s eaten or drank anything. She says that she had breakfast at 7:30. The (whatever she is) on the phone gets all upset that she\'s not NPO and tells Peggy to get to the hospital right now....(9:00 in the morning). We cannot figure out why unless she\'s afraid Peggy is going to eat lunch....So she tells them that she cannot just go to the hospital, she\'s on pain meds and cannot drive. She\'ll have to wait on me to get home and take her to the hospital. The lady on the phone gets even more upset. Now, this is at 9:00 in the morning for a 5:30 surgery.
Anyway, I leave work, get home, load Peggy, go to the hospital and get to admitting. We are filling out the paperwork when they get a call and cancel our surgery. Peggy is in tears, she wants out of that cast so bad.
We talk to the doctors office, (never to the surgeon but to his other assistant) told our side, but to no avail. Her surgery is now at 7:00 am on Tuesday morning. 5 more days of being helpless.
We did look into changing doctors, but to get an appointment and a surgery scheduled - it would still be Tuesday at best.
To say that I am going to have words with this guy - after he\'s through cutting on my wife - is an understatement.
Thanks for letting me vent.
