Thick Skin

constuctive comments

I am not much better than jardacka but any help I can give would be given in a better form than Tony gave. His methods are harsh and unwanted and I totally agree with( Mike?) he wouldn\'t say these things in person but if he did within earshot of me he wouldn\'t say them ever again to anyone.Hope Jardacka comes back hate to see anyone chased off by a loud obnoxious a%$&@*! . Know what I mean.DD:flame:

right. but i don\'t like it anyway. sorry for the 1 but i can\'t really give him more. Just a simple explanation why i give him 1.

Blotchy colours.

This is full of articles here, i don\'t think that he can\'t read them. I\'m sorry but if you don\'t want see 1 then cut the 1 button away...

@laurence you\'re right i could post them in a better way, but simply i didn\'t think (my fault) too much about it thinking it\'s full here of articles explaining how to thin

I don\'t feel to give any kind of excuses here because i would be hipocritical (Oh and Dark seraphim i\'m SO DAMN SORRY if my grammar hurts you, see how can you speak in italian so currectly)... so i tried to give brief explanations of errors in painting (not thinking about he is a newbie so he doesn\'t know much about thinning, my fault as i said before)

ps: i\'ve seen lots of comments way worse than mine (giving no explanation or mocking the painter or so on) posted by a person who is a freak here, but i didn\'t read any complaint about it.

When I moderate the comments, I struggle and debate with myself everytime I see comments left like that.

I agree it is unhelpful, and rude, and I have come to the conclusion that comments like that can sink or swim on their own merits.

If someone consistantly wants to make an ass of themselves by making those comments, I\'ll be damned if I don\'t afford them every opportunity to succeed.

This type of peer pressure is probably what is needed to curtail these types of things.
There are plenty of comments that I don\'t allow.

Noone said that you were supposed to like it or not give it a one, just saying that if you need to say something say it nicely, we are all people here..

Blotchy colours.
Even I don\'t get that... what?! Too thick? Strange colors? What ?

This is full of articles here, i don\'t think that he can\'t read them.
It took me 3 days to get this site fully figured out and how to work it...

I\'m sorry but if you don\'t want see 1 then cut the 1 button away...
No need for that, again, don\'t comment if you don\'t give some constructive critisms and a 1...

Or just an excuse for being rude?

(Oh and Dark seraphim i\'m SO DAMN SORRY if my grammar hurts you, see how can you speak in italian so currectly)...
I don\'t speak Italian, never have... you speak english.. English is my second language.. so this really doesn\'t make any sense.

The reason why I mentioned the gramaticaly incorrect(ness? :p) was because if you don\'t get it said right, people can misunderstand or simply don\'t get it...

You were unlucky I guess, but because someone else does it, it doesn\'t make it right...

This is a wakeup call to all posters here and the moderators.. and I expect it will be taken seriously.

@Dragonsreach; I felt like helping the guy, simply because I know about getting discouraged from stuff in rl... the internet projects to RL, so when I started thinking that he might stop painting... I couldn\'t bear it..

thin MORE your colours and shade them

I can understand this meaning perfectly well... seraphim, you are being a bit pedantic:rolleyes:

@Marmoset, not being Pedantic, or I would have attacked all his posts and every single error he made... we all make errors, but when something becomes unreadable, you gotta be careful... yes ?

I paint my thumb.
My, the poor lad:(

Let\'s not forget that painting miniature is pretty alien to most people, it can be very long to learn to do it properly ( The way you people seeit.) and that EVERYONE SUCKED at one point or another.
Just sitting down long enough to get a mini painted, just taking up the daunting task of applying colors on your minis, is a great thing, and many WH players will never even pick-up a brush.
And the readily available knowledge about thinning and such is really not written for newbs or youngsters and all this is pretty hard to figure if everything you know his \"how to paint citadel miniatures.\"

At this stage, it HAS to be encouraged.

I know, when you\'re on a voting streak, giving 8 and 9 and having a great time, then falling on a 3-4 picture, It can be shocking and you might be upset that this came to your sight... \" Its supposed to be a site for GOOD painters\" you might think, where can this be read?
The guy is not pretending to be good, not trying for any Demons, he\'s just giving a try at painting his warbands.
There definitively should be a different range of comments for pre-tabletop and post-tabletop, imo.

Thick Skin??? I say adamantite exoskeleton:moon:

Ps:Was my 2cents. Nothing against Tony, there ARE much nastier comments around.

What?! Even you don\'t get it?! What is the world coming to... I think what Tony meant was that the colours were blotchy...

I think the user has been active for more than three days... and maybe not everyone is as slow as you lol

No. He doesn\'t need to be bullied into excuses. If he thinks the mini is a 1, let him think that whther you agree or not. You may not think him fair, but we all have our own opinions, and Tony is a very good painter with some authority on the matter. I know this doesn\'t give him the right to be mean to people, on the contrary... but he is entitled to comment and if the mods let it through, there can\'t be much of a problem, can there?

(Oh and Dark seraphim i\'m SO DAMN SORRY if my grammar hurts you, see how can you speak in italian so currectly)...

That\'s not what Tony meant. People post worse comments by far, and no one harangues them, but he is being victimised because one guy\'s account is full of particularly low ratings and Tony commented on them.

This is a wakeup call to all posters here and the moderators.. and I expect it will be taken seriously.

What is the wakeup call? ???

@Dragonsreach; I felt like helping the guy, simply because I know about getting discouraged from stuff in rl... the internet projects to RL, so when I started thinking that he might stop painting... I couldn\'t bear it..

Good on you for helping him, but leave Tony alone. His comments may have been harsh and unhelpful to say the least, but he did tell the painter what to improve. And you have said that the painter seemed fine about it. There have been many threads debating the ethics of sniping, and general consenus is that if your mini is good, there is no need to worry about that one person who thinks it sucks. As I have said before, Tony is entitled to his own opinion. Hang in there Tony, I\'m with you:cool:

oh another question.

he has a lot of 2.2 and 2.4 minis with 50+ votes.

I don\'t think i\'m the only one to rate them 1. I just wanted to write why the score.

Marmoset, you do know your actually attacking me, in which you have no reason for.. Your commentary to what I posted...for Tony, not you, are unnessesary, and frankly your rather annoying.

If you can\'t see what the wakeup call is, when you even say it yourself, then I think you should go back to just posting about how many posts you have done... please...

I won\'t even dignify your commentary with new commentary as to how wrong you are...

I am not attacking you. I was attacking your attack on Tony. :D I\'m sorry that you see me as unnecessary and annoying, obviously my views mean nothing...

:p I win lol

Seriously, no hard feelings (on my side anyway) I wasn\'t intending to cause offence to anyone, and I\'m sorry if I did. I just think that we should stop flaming poor Tony. Thick Skin would maybe help you?

is it just me or has CMON become a little nicer? When I recieve harsh comments that expect me to be painting 10s right off the bat *cough*Mohorc*cough* I just shrug them off and say \"So? You want me to win a demon and rub it in one day? I will and I\'ll do just that!\"

what doesn\'t kill me makes me stronger

so if I rip all your limbs off you\'ll be Ubertorso? lol

Some can take harsh comments, some can\'t, but when a guy removes his pictures to avoid the shame... that is bad... and should taken as a sign really...

At least Tony Manero had the decency to put his name to his votes.

Unlike others. As harsh as the comments may look at least they are comments. And as someone who has spoken to Tony Manero I can tell you now that this is the way he comes across. I believe its part language barrier and part to do with he speaks his mind and is to the point.

I agree with Klute... I have had my fair share of unpleasant comments from Tony Manero, however, he is one of the few on the site that actually regularly gives constructive criticism.

For those of you who are involved in the actual art world and have had college art professors should know that professional art critics are much harsher than someone like Tony Manero. Real improvement comes from knowing precisely what is wrong and just how very wrong it is.

And yes... Thick skin is something that will be built up by this.

My only gripe with Tony is his Wiping his gallery multiple times... However, it is understandable to do such a thing when what seems to be the entire website is against him. I know that I have also done such a thing out of mere frustration and anger on another website as I was mocked by what seemed to be the entire website.

great, great, this and that, blah, blah. whatever. what really gets me, is now this guys pics are down, and i cant look at them to make my own damn decision. from what i saw of the thumbnails id give them a 4-5 ish. easily table top. we are such a snobbish group that tt needs to have flawless execution, multiple techniques etc. what ever happened to 3 colors and flock (j/k, but still). -1 per thing, thats silly. some pieces would be in the negatives.

Language barrier? Yeah, that\'s what I chalk alot of comments up to that I see that come across as rude/harsh/etc.... Also plain ol\' cultural differences.

I have to say that I have much more respect for the low score voter that will give a comment on why, as this also is stepping out and saying they did it.

I\'ll agree that the new folks on the site might take a low score a bit hard. But have you ever watched the American Idol first round auditions? Have you heard the \"kids\" whose parents would not tell them that they sounded like a cat in heat in a wet sack? :|~ The good ol\' USA has a problem with this lately, don\'t tell a child that they failed at a class, don\'t call the last place holder in a race or game the loser, and lord and lady forbid that anyone give an honest opinion on something that is less than glowing.

Personally I take the comments from excellent painters that, appearently, others would take as snarky, open up as big an image of the piece in question as I\'ve got and proceed to go over that image with the comments left and try to see how I can work on them within realistic self expectations.

Personally I would like Tony to give his comments on my minis, and would take them and pin them on the wall by my painting area, as I have done with others.

In an ideal situation photo posters would at least read the forums, and in reading they would have a better idea of who is and is not fluent and comfortable in english as a written language (much less a spoken), and therefore be able to read thier comments with that in mind.

I will also agree that some people just post snarky, nasty comments. Some people seem to be afraid of up and coming painters and seem to feel the need to focus on some small flaw and turn it into a disaster. Oh well.

Now that I\'ve written a small novel on this, I\'ll shut up for now.:D
