Actually..it did make me think....

\'My arse!\' is a comedy catchphrase in the UK as it is used by a character in a popular sitcom. It\'s on mugs, T shirts, posters...you name it...

It probably isn\'t a comedy catchphrase anywhere else though.....

After two years this side of the pond I still say \"bollox\". Then I have to explain it. Then I have to explain how it\'s not really a swear word.

When I first moved to London I had an embarassing one. See, in South Africa we call 5.25 inch floppy discs \"floppies\" \'cause they\'re, well, all bendy and floppy. And we call 3.5 inch floppy discs \"stiffies\" \'cause they don\'t bend*. Second day on the job in London, at a prestigous investment bank, I made a comment about putting a stiffy in the the slot. Took some rapid explaining.

I think English lends itself to swearing...

..perhaps more readily than some other languages. Also, unless one works in a very PC environment \'swearing\' - (it\'s not really regarded as swearing over here though) is very common. When I worked for Ford Motor Company in the UK, they tended to only employ male secretarial/admin staff on the on the production side of things because the language was so bad, even from senior managers:D

When I was at University, a lecturer who specialised in language, told us he had worked at Fords during a summer holiday and it really bought home to him the versatility of the swear word. His classic example was the sentence, actually uttered by a plumber when looking at a pressure guage, \"The ****ing ****ers ****ing ****ed\". There aren\'t many words that can be noun, adjective, verb etc all in one sentence..:flip:

I can\'t announce it yet, it might get the sculptor in trouble, and you might never see the sculpt then. I shouldn\'t even have mention anything, my fault really.

*in a petulant child\'s voice* What? Oh no. That\'s so NOT fair!

Can\'t wait tho. :p

Monty Python once did a \"Usage of F*ck\" comedy thing maybe some of you remember that one, it was hilarious, with classic music playing in the backround and this guy talking with such a serious voice.

\"Use this unique, flexible word more often in your daily speech, it will identify the quality of your character immediately.\" lol
